The quality of the boat we have gotten each year has steadily declined. On our most recent trip the boat, the boat was very run down and the motor lacked a reverse and a very difficult throttle forward. We love renting here and enjoy the staff. Lucky for me, LBI Luxury Charters had just started doing private boat tours a month before my visit. Captain Mike and his crew member James could not have been more accommodating or pleasant, ensuring my friends and I had everything we needed aboard to enjoy a beautiful sunset cruise on the bay. They provided small snacks and drinks as well as a cooler with ice for the items we brought. The boat was beautiful and very roomy for the 4 of us -- you can bring up to 6 on board -- and was not ridiculously expensive for a two hour ride, especially compared to the other tours I found. He thought if he could get a swordfish or two it might make the trip. The wind made it impossible for him to get to the spot he had planned so he just went to some where and hoped for the best. There was one big eye tuna caught. It was basically like winning the lottery the fish picked up a tile fish rig off the bottom in 700 of water. This was no more than a money grab to end the season.
