First time at Sahara Sun.(I haven't been to a tanning salon in about 20 yrs.) Florence is so kind, and friendly. She took her time explaining all necessary information(different bed option, memberships, pricing per visit, product info reguarding lotions)She did an Excellant job making sure I was completely informed. Very clean and comfortable atmosphere. The restroom was clean and I could tell the tanning room I used had been sterilized.looking forward to my next session. And another plus, lots of off street parking read more

Kind and amazing service. The facility is clean and staff is great at helping you navigate the space.

Really bad customer service since the new owner. Sad situation, as it was a great place to go with great staff for many years. Now the price is higher, merchandise is bad, and hours are very restricted. No posted rules, or communication from the business on policies or contract details. I tried to be a patron and was argued with by the owner and an employee at the Monterey location within the first 24 hours of signing up for a membership? Lots of previous customers reporting the same bad customer service experiences. Seems like a business that doesn't actually want any customers? I want to add like other reviewers, Florence was very professional and clearly has real customer service experience. Unfortunately, she isn't working when I can make it to this location. All the other employees including the owner have been very confrontational and aggressively rude. I don't feel comfortable returning. I hope someone else opens another tanning salon soon. read more

Always a pleasure going to the Lighthouse location. Florence is such a beautiful soul and she makes the experience always a pleasurable one. Clean beds, clean towels, lots of unique and fun clothes to look through while you're there. They also have some of the most amazing lotions. Highly recommend! read more

Tanning is definitely not good for your skin but sometimes living in the fog belt I get the "sads" and buy a package of a few tans. Fast, easy, and always makes me feel better! Cashiers are always friendly and location seems clean I always I see them cleaning the beds right after someone uses them. read more

Florence has been there forever and I need to say how great she is sorry it has taken me so long to post this .Always so informative about what ever and keeps the place running clean and smooth . read more

First I want to say Florence is absolutely amazing and so kind ... however another lady was working today and while my boyfriend waited for the woman to acknowledge him at the front ... instead of saying hi or acknowledging him at all she proceeded to continue on her personal phone call. It was very obvious that it was a personal phone call and instead of letting that person know she would call them back or put them on hold to say hello/help a customer she didn't and my boyfriend ending up walking out without getting his red light therapy in and without her even saying hello. If I was the owner I would be very upset that this was an employee of mine. Very unprofessional. read more

One time visit before a big event. Super helpful, pretty well maintained equipment. Did not burn, moderate color. Staff were nice and informative. Towels provided, eyewear and lotion for sale. read more

Super clean/convenient/affordable was in Monterey and grabbed a great shirt and a free tan

The only reason I go tanning here is because it's closest to where I live and they have sales on tanning packages occasionally. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. I've never had a negative experience with the staff and that's probably the only thing that keeps me coming back. Some things that DEFINITELY need improvement on are the fans in the few rooms for lay down regular tanning. The fans are so old that they barely work and I always leave Sahara so unbelievably hot and sweaty. I would probably tan here more often if it wasn't so damn hot all the time. (Seriously, it's REALLY HOT) Also, the cleanliness of the place deserves 0 stars. It's always pretty dirty and I'm pretty sure nobody ever vacuums the place. Which I'm not surprised about since they always seem low on staff. Poor girls can't do 5 things at once working alone and with a line out the door. I think something to add to this tanning salon would be to have keychain tanning cards that the staff can scan and your info comes right up so they don't have to ask your name every time you walk in. The tanning place I was in love with (which moved unfortunately) had these keychains and it made everything so much easier. read more

Sahara Sun - Huge crack on top portion of one of the lay down tanning beds. I let the staff know about this a few weeks ago. Still there. - Tanning Near Me - Monterey, California

Florence is phenomenal at customer service and really is able to explain the beds and the process. Amazing service!

We love this salon! From the get go Florence has been courteous, kind and super helpful. She was very thorough in explaining the contract, hours of business and the tanning process. We planned on doing a three month plan but because of the great service, convenient location and great price we kept our accounts month to month. We will always recommend this business and location. read more

I decided to go to this Sahara Tan location because of all the good reviews about Florence. Florence's reputation among clients is excellent, and it turned out to be true when I went. I didn't even have to ask for anything; she first asked me if I need this or that, and was very considerate about my needs. As anticipated, Florence was very nice and accommodating, and the prices are very reasonable, too. read more

This place is being very well run, it's clean and well kept. Florence is very nice and will never make you feel like you're putting her out if you ask a question or need something extra. Such a rare thing these days, someone who's actually doing their job and she goes above and beyond. read more

Originally posted this on the Fremont location's page, accidentally. So I will copy and paste over here and delete my other. I am ok with Sahara Sun. The staff is friendly enough ( except you can stand right in front of them for 5 min and they won't know you're there). They're one of three salons in the area, two of which are Sahara sun, so best in Monterey is a no brainer. But holy cow! Update your beds! They're old, poor ventilation...and their high pressure bed? The njoy mix is not the cream of the crop. No appointment? Forget about getting in. Clean the fans...please? Clean the plastic part where people touch first before lying in the beds... I'll tan here for my annual base tan, but please update your beds. And clean a bit better. read more

We needed to get a base tan before a trip, so we decided to check out Sahara Sun - We were able to get a 3 month unlimited membership and a great deal on lotions. Florence also let us know everything we wanted to know about tanning, to get the very most out of our membership. She's wonderful, this place is great. Always clean, prompt service, and the results are great! Florence is pretty good at understanding your skin type and suggesting a tanning regimen that won't completely burn you. After 3 visits, I already have a nice golden base layer & I am very excited to keep it going! read more

The cute clothes in the window display caught my attention. They have tons of cute shirts and jeans but the prices are roughly $50-$100. The owner was friendly. The set up is cute. I can't speak for tanning deals, but as another yelper mentioned, you can get 1 or 2 free tans with a special clothing purchase. From a distance the tanning areas looked reasonable. The owner was speaking to another client and was helpful offering foot covers (for $2) for the spray tan. Also you can choose a particular scent with the spray tan. I thought that was cool. read more

Oh man! Florence is amazing! You can get a spray tan at a lot of places but not a spray tan and amazing customer service! It was my first time there and Florence walked me though the entire spray tan machine and I LOVED my spray tan that I ended up leaving with a membership. Lol. read more

Florence is amazing. Makes me feel like I am walking into a warm home. She is seriously Phenomenal. They are so lucky to have her! Sahara Sun is a good deal. They also are friendly in that they loan you goggles if you forget yours. read more

i have tanned with this business for over a year & this is my favorite location!! everyone who works here is so so sweet especially florence!! They all make sure everything is clean before going in to tan so it's always a good experience!! read more

Amazing customer service!! Clean facility! And, to top it off, you can buy cute clothes, and get free tans for your purchase! Win win!!

I recently went on a trip and of course didn't want to frighten people with my full moon tan. I did the spray on. I felt like the woman did a thorough job of explaining exactly how to get the best results. She was a little too chatty, but super friendly. I will go back when I need to look warm and sunny. Reasonable prices I thought. read more

I'm pretty sure nobody likes to admit that they tan on occasion, so there is definitely some awkwardness about going in to a tanning salon to buy a package pre-bikini season. If I had the time, I'd go to the beach or lay out but it just doesn't happen as much as I'd like. The first time I walked into Sahara Sun that awkwardness was completely nipped in the bud and I was welcomed like a friend they hadn't seen in a long time. I have not once had a bad experience there. The staff is so sweet and they get you in and out just like I prefer. The only lag time spent in there is when I am distracted by all of their cute boutiquey clothing. 5 Stars for Sahara Sun on Lighthouse:) read more

Florence is awesome. I had not had such a great experience with tanning in the past. She was genuinely concerned about and attentive to making sure I was comfortable and that I understood what I was doing and how to get the best results possible. She walked me through the positions to take in the spray tan booth and explained how to do everything else. She was able to point me to a product I had been looking for (and didn't know existed)-- an at-home spray. Topper: the clothes are really cute. For a boutique, the prices are reasonable-- 30$ for a sun dress. I generally don't write reviews unless I'm either really happy with the quality of service/product or really not...totally deserving of the five stars. read more

I've stopped in before a couple years ago when I was shopping around for a tanning membership and found their tanning prices on the higher side but when I stopped in tonight I saw a lot of specials going on which was nice. I was lured in by the yellow frilly shoulder top that was staring at me through the window and I tried on a couple cute dresses. There is a sale going on 50% off some stuff, 25% off another rack or two and the rest of the place was %10 off. Great deals but original prices are very pricey for the quality. Although super busy the lady behind the counter kept her cool and accommodated all 5 ladies that walked in at once. She even offered me to call another store to see if they had the top I wanted in my size. Great customer service, again very different from my first experience (which I know I yelped but it has disappeared). read more

Old beds, small place, crusty customer service, overpriced goods, tiny and awkward parking lot, and the price is not worth it... The woman at the front desk was not only complaining about her job, she was upset that I was putting her out by coming in. WARNING: The hours posted on line are NOT the hours they are available for tanning. The woman said she couldn't let me tan because I came at the wrong time in spite of the fact they were open saying that their regular customers knew the tanning times. She went on and on and on and then told me she was going to be taking out of her own personal time if she let me tan (even though they were still open for another half hour). It took her longer to complain than it would have to just let me tan as I only wanted four minutes. Every time I've interacted with her, she's been crunchy and cantankerous...to put it the best way I can. The owner was almost as bad...talking with her led me to believe that she's doesn't really care about people. I'd rather spend more money and actually get what I paid for than have to go through that mess...not worth the trouble to say the least. read more

The older woman at this location was terribly nasty to me on more than one occasion. This final time she complained about her job and me coming in 20 minutes before closing and even yelled at me repeatedly. I've talked to the owner about this and the owner could care less. Never going back. Avoid at all costs! read more

I go out of my way to come to this specific Shara Sun for their wonderful customer service. I have to take a second to RAVE about Florence. Her customer service is exceptional. She goes above and beyond everyday I see her. She needs to be recognized!! I recently tried to go to a closer salon and ended up, unfortunately, needing to leave because I felt like I was a burden to whom was working. Very disappointing... but due to my excellent experience I always have at this location because of Florence and her team I don't feel as upset! read more

I love this place! The staff are so friendly and helpful at the lighthouse location.. I choose it as my only place to go. I wasn't too keen about going to a tanning place after 2 bad previous experiences I had, at 2 other places where I had one time gotten badly sunburned after being given a suggested time by the employee which I now know was far too long for my skin type especially on my first go, and another, where I was horrified after the results came out on a bad sunless tan after getting really poor instructions on the procedure... Took about 2 or so years till I gathered up enough nerve to go with a friend, and now, for the past 2 1/2 years have make it a regular thing. I recommend it highly to anyone who is thinking about trying it out, as I do with the people who ask me and the friends I have gotten to go with me. The staff always makes sure you are given the proper time to talk and make sure you are informed and once you become a regular, treat you as a friend. I often stop through just to say hi if I'm nearby even if I dont need to go in, just because the staff is so wonderful. This is the best place in my opinion in Monterey to go too, and would definitely recommend it to everyone to give it a try.. read more

This place is great! I missed my appointment and they were booked solid. Florence, the manager, operates this place like a well oiled machine. She is constantly busy helping customers. Even though I missed my appointment she stayed late after regular hours to help me out. (I was leaving for vacation the next day.) it's a nice clean place and Florence should get employee of the year!! read more

Love this place! Florence is so nice and so helpful! She makes sure you will get the bet results you can. Gives very clear instructions to maximize your spray tan without an ugly orange streaking mess! She is so sweet and makes this place a success. Great price for the Diamond package!! Florence is very helpful! Cute boutique too!

The gals here are great! All super friendly and the clothes they have are ADORABLE! Btw, they have MissMe Jeans! ;) And if you purchase some of their sale items you can even earn yourself some free tans! The place is nice on the inside, nothing fancy but serves its purpose. I think the one off Lighthouse is much nicer looking on the inside and you have more room inside the room when you're trying to dress/undress and put on tanning lotion. Their prices are a bit high too, so try to go online and shop around before coming in. But once you purchase a package you can use at any of their locations which is nice. read more

Great place to go. Very friendly staff. They always have good specials if you sign up for their e-mail club.

I've always loved coming in here to tan. Florence is always so sweet and helpful. They welcome you with a smile and that always feels nice. A plus, they just got a few brand new beds! read more

Florence was anazing. Just like what everyone said before. Had a great experience and loved my color.

After recently moving to the area I needed something familiar and cozy: a good tanning salon. Walking in to a busy place, I was greeted with a friendly smile which made up for the wait. Bonus for the clothing to check out while you wait and occasionally get a free tan with purchase. read more
