First I want to say Florence is absolutely amazing and so kind ... however another lady was working today and while my boyfriend waited for the woman to acknowledge him at the front ... instead of saying hi or acknowledging him at all she proceeded to continue on her personal phone call. It was very obvious that it was a personal phone call and instead of letting that person know she would call them back or put them on hold to say hello/help a customer she didn't and my boyfriend ending up walking out without getting his red light therapy in and without her even saying hello. If I was the owner I would be very upset that this was an employee of mine. Very unprofessional. read more

Tanning is definitely not good for your skin but sometimes living in the fog belt I get the "sads" and buy a package of a few tans. Fast, easy, and always makes me feel better! Cashiers are always friendly and location seems clean I always I see them cleaning the beds right after someone uses them. read more

I typically love going to this location after working out down the street. But unfortunately this will be my last time I ever go here. Florence basically chased me out of the Tanning salon. I supposedly parked in her parking spot. She demanded I move my car and recommend I never park there again. This was extremely rude. I spend good money for my membership ship and have for years. I had one of her Sahara sun parking passes on my windshield and she completely disregarded it. I felt very uncomfortable. read more

The only reason I go tanning here is because it's closest to where I live and they have sales on tanning packages occasionally. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. I've never had a negative experience with the staff and that's probably the only thing that keeps me coming back. Some things that DEFINITELY need improvement on are the fans in the few rooms for lay down regular tanning. The fans are so old that they barely work and I always leave Sahara so unbelievably hot and sweaty. I would probably tan here more often if it wasn't so damn hot all the time. (Seriously, it's REALLY HOT) Also, the cleanliness of the place deserves 0 stars. It's always pretty dirty and I'm pretty sure nobody ever vacuums the place. Which I'm not surprised about since they always seem low on staff. Poor girls can't do 5 things at once working alone and with a line out the door. I think something to add to this tanning salon would be to have keychain tanning cards that the staff can scan and your info comes right up so they don't have to ask your name every time you walk in. The tanning place I was in love with (which moved unfortunately) had these keychains and it made everything so much easier. read more

We needed to get a base tan before a trip, so we decided to check out Sahara Sun - We were able to get a 3 month unlimited membership and a great deal on lotions. Florence also let us know everything we wanted to know about tanning, to get the very most out of our membership. She's wonderful, this place is great. Always clean, prompt service, and the results are great! Florence is pretty good at understanding your skin type and suggesting a tanning regimen that won't completely burn you. The staff is friendly enough ( except you can stand right in front of them for 5 min and they won't know you're there). They're one of three salons in the area, two of which are Sahara sun, so best in Monterey is a no brainer. But holy cow! Update your beds! They're old, poor ventilation...and their high pressure bed? The njoy mix is not the cream of the crop. No appointment? Forget about getting in. Clean the fans...please? Clean the plastic part where people touch first before lying in the beds... I'll tan here for my annual base tan, but please update your beds. And clean a bit better. read more

Oh man! Florence is amazing! You can get a spray tan at a lot of places but not a spray tan and amazing customer service! It was my first time there and Florence walked me though the entire spray tan machine and I LOVED my spray tan that I ended up leaving with a membership. Lol. read more

The cute clothes in the window display caught my attention. They have tons of cute shirts and jeans but the prices are roughly $50-$100. The owner was friendly. The set up is cute. I can't speak for tanning deals, but as another yelper mentioned, you can get 1 or 2 free tans with a special clothing purchase. From a distance the tanning areas looked reasonable. The owner was speaking to another client and was helpful offering foot covers (for $2) for the spray tan. Also you can choose a particular scent with the spray tan. I'm pretty sure nobody likes to admit that they tan on occasion, so there is definitely some awkwardness about going in to a tanning salon to buy a package pre-bikini season. If I had the time, I'd go to the beach or lay out but it just doesn't happen as much as I'd like. The first time I walked into Sahara Sun that awkwardness was completely nipped in the bud and I was welcomed like a friend they hadn't seen in a long time. I have not once had a bad experience there. The staff is so sweet and they get you in and out just like I prefer. Florence is awesome. I had not had such a great experience with tanning in the past. She was genuinely concerned about and attentive to making sure I was comfortable and that I understood what I was doing and how to get the best results possible. She walked me through the positions to take in the spray tan booth and explained how to do everything else. She was able to point me to a product I had been looking for (and didn't know existed)-- an at-home spray. Topper: the clothes are really cute. For a boutique, the prices are reasonable-- 30$ for a sun dress. I've stopped in before a couple years ago when I was shopping around for a tanning membership and found their tanning prices on the higher side but when I stopped in tonight I saw a lot of specials going on which was nice. I was lured in by the yellow frilly shoulder top that was staring at me through the window and I tried on a couple cute dresses. There is a sale going on 50% off some stuff, 25% off another rack or two and the rest of the place was %10 off. Great deals but original prices are very pricey for the quality. Although super busy the lady behind the counter kept her cool and accommodated all 5 ladies that walked in at once. She even offered me to call another store to see if they had the top I wanted in my size. Great customer service, again very different from my first experience (which I know I yelped but it has disappeared). read more

Old beds, small place, crusty customer service, overpriced goods, tiny and awkward parking lot, and the price is not worth it... The woman at the front desk was not only complaining about her job, she was upset that I was putting her out by coming in. WARNING: The hours posted on line are NOT the hours they are available for tanning. The woman said she couldn't let me tan because I came at the wrong time in spite of the fact they were open saying that their regular customers knew the tanning times. She went on and on and on and then told me she was going to be taking out of her own personal time if she let me tan (even though they were still open for another half hour). It took her longer to complain than it would have to just let me tan as I only wanted four minutes. Every time I've interacted with her, she's been crunchy and cantankerous...to put it the best way I can. The owner was almost as bad...talking with her led me to believe that she's doesn't really care about people. I'd rather spend more money and actually get what I paid for than have to go through that mess...not worth the trouble to say the least. read more

I go out of my way to come to this specific Shara Sun for their wonderful customer service. I have to take a second to RAVE about Florence. Her customer service is exceptional. She goes above and beyond everyday I see her. She needs to be recognized!! I recently tried to go to a closer salon and ended up, unfortunately, needing to leave because I felt like I was a burden to whom was working. The older woman at this location was terribly nasty to me on more than one occasion. This final time she complained about her job and me coming in 20 minutes before closing and even yelled at me repeatedly. I've talked to the owner about this and the owner could care less. I love this place! The staff are so friendly and helpful at the lighthouse location.. I choose it as my only place to go. I wasn't too keen about going to a tanning place after 2 bad previous experiences I had, at 2 other places where I had one time gotten badly sunburned after being given a suggested time by the employee which I now know was far too long for my skin type especially on my first go, and another, where I was horrified after the results came out on a bad sunless tan after getting really poor instructions on the procedure... Took about 2 or so years till I gathered up enough nerve to go with a friend, and now, for the past 2 1/2 years have make it a regular thing. I recommend it highly to anyone who is thinking about trying it out, as I do with the people who ask me and the friends I have gotten to go with me. The staff always makes sure you are given the proper time to talk and make sure you are informed and once you become a regular, treat you as a friend. I often stop through just to say hi if I'm nearby even if I dont need to go in, just because the staff is so wonderful. This is the best place in my opinion in Monterey to go too, and would definitely recommend it to everyone to give it a try.. read more

Even though I missed my appointment she stayed late after regular hours to help me out. The gals here are great! All super friendly and the clothes they have are ADORABLE! Btw, they have MissMe Jeans! ;) And if you purchase some of their sale items you can even earn yourself some free tans! The place is nice on the inside, nothing fancy but serves its purpose. I think the one off Lighthouse is much nicer looking on the inside and you have more room inside the room when you're trying to dress/undress and put on tanning lotion. Their prices are a bit high too, so try to go online and shop around before coming in. But once you purchase a package you can use at any of their locations which is nice. read more

I'm very disappointed to have to be writing this review due to the fact that I love all Sahara Suns employees but I can't help it. If I could rate them negative stars I would. I purchased a pair of very adorable work out leggings just the other day. I had tried them on once before and LOVED them but they were a little pricey. A lot of their clothes tend to go on sale so I figured I'd wait it out and see if they would be marked down. When I went in and noticed they were on sale this last time I grabbed them as soon as I could. I didn't need to try them on again because I had once already and knew they would fit. They looked to be in good condition when I held them up so you can bet when I got home and went to put them on and a HUGE hole appeared I was pretty upset! I called to see if there was anyway I'd be able to exchange them as the hole was not my fault and I still paid a pretty penny for them and I am sad to report the answer was no! They have a final sale policy. I can understand that for customers who just weren't satisfied with the purchase or their clothes didn't fit, but these are ruined and there's nothing I can do about it! I mean I didn't even get to wear them!! I have the diamond plus tanning package and spend a good amount of time and money there so I'm sure anyone would understand why this is so frustrating to me. This has ruined my experience at Sahara sun and I will no longer be returning. read more

The place is clean, the equipment is well cared for, and the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Gina's got great taste and offers a unique collection of boutique clothing and accessories.
