This more than your typical Imbiss. Located directly next door to Markthalle 9, this is a great spot for Sudanese-influenced variations of typical Berlin-style takeaway foods: falafel, fried veggies, and meats wrapped in delicious pita bread. Or as a platter. All sandwiches are served with peanut sauce, and you can add a fantastic mango sauce as well as a very spicy hot sauce. I recommend the tofu and fried veggie sandwich with mango sauce (3.50€). The food also comes as platters, with your choice of side dishes. The staff are young and friendly, and the interior walls are painted with cool designs and maps of Sudan. There's a small tv in the corner that is always playing videos of extreme skiing and snowboarding. It's an incongruous match with the Sudanese vibe but it somehow works perfectly.

Kofta / falafel plate with peanut sauce and a bit of hot and mango sauce too!

Interestingly enough, I didn't think much about the fact that Nil serves Sudanese food; I only was walking by on the way to the bank and thought it might serve as a quick, inexpensive and tasty lunch. Well, it certainly was apropos, as I am currently reading Dave Eggers' "What is the What," a book about the Second Sudanese Civil War, so it was an added bonus to be taking in the flavours of the region. I got my entree to go and enjoyed it from home about an hour later... and it was absolutely delicious. For 3 euros, it includes lettuce and tomatoes in a pita-like bread, with fried pepper tofu, and some kind of sauce that tasted somewhat peanut-y. There were also beans in there - maybe part of the sauce? Regardless, it was totally good and I definitely recommend it. There are a few other options on the menu I would like to try out as well, and I know I'll be back. As to the decor, it's small and quaint but clean. There are a couple tables inside in addition to the outside seating. The man helping me was incredibly polite and the service was quick. There's also an English menu on the backside, for those who don't read German.

The sign outside read "Nigerian" and "vegan options", so we got curious. The interior is cozy and well laid out, with lots of space for groups. There were plenty of vegan options on the menu, and although not indicated - most items are also glutenfree. However, meat eaters will find an array of interesting dishes as well, from chicken to ostrich and even crocodile steak. I can highly recommend to get several dishes to share, to get a taste of everything, but also for clearing your palette in between the well-spiced dishes. We ordered fried tofu masala with veggis and potatoe wedges, a mango-avocado salad, and a side order of cassava with a mint dip. Everything tasted amazing! It was plenty of food for us two, well spiced but not too spicy for us - although that's a personal evaluation. If you want to try something very typical for many African and Indian regions, try a Palm Drink (Ghana). It is fermented palm juice with a very low percentage of alcohol. I found it a required taste and decided after three sips that I'm not a fan, but my partner thought it was refreshing and sweet. Besides palm wine, there are a number of African beers on the menu, including Nigerian Guinness. All around Pan Africa is a lovely, unexpected gem in the middle of Rixdorf - Neukölln. I will for sure come back with friends!
