Average tasting food at sky high prices. Ok for atmosphere and good waiting service. Steak n burger is definitely not the best around!

I walk past this place every morning with the dog I'm currently taking care of, and two times out…read moreof three I can't resist getting an egg roll. Not *that* kind of eggroll mind you, but a couple of tasty fried eggs on a brown roll with butter for less than two quid. It's cramped inside, so it's better for takeaway, but I saw a gent just yesterday with a proper full English breakfast sitting at the window. Decent java as well.

Dear Village Bakery,…read more At 7.30 in the morning, I'm sure you're well aware that cars and motorbikes are kahuning far too quickly down Orford Road for me to risk walking my 7 yo daughter down there. And filling the small amount of space between the tables and chairs outside your shop with plastic pallets wasn't entirely reasonable; nor so was it for one of the staff to barrel out and scream "IDIOT" and other colourful abuse when my child tipped one over accidentally while carefully inching her scooter through. I'd probably have just chalked that shitty behaviour, and my daughter's subsequent tears, as a blight on the school run but you weren't done, were you, Village Bakery? On returning alone after dropping her off, you, the owner, burst out of the shop shouting at me for walking past with my phone (?!) - in the road, I should add - and demanded in a voice only slightly lower than Krakatoa erupting to know what my "problem" was. I asked if you thought it was OK for a member of your team to shout abuse at a woman and child in the street. You said it was. I told you that my daughter had cried; you replied - in front of another small child presumably in your care - "I don't give a fuck". You told me I am an awful parent for not immediately running back to tidy up the mess outside your shop that my daughter had inadvertently made worse. And then you delivered your parting shot: "Maybe you should've had 'em when you were younger, before you became an old bag". Now, I've always been fiercely supportive of small businesses in Walthamstow and before this morning I would never have contemplated posting negatively about one on social media. But you know what, Village Bakery? When you scream at my child in the street and try to belittle and humiliate me for having a baby in my mid-thirties, you've pissed on your local business chips and then some. Sharing as the "older" mums of Walthamstow - because I daresay I'm not the only 43 year old with a kid in primary - should probably know what you think of us and our offspring before making an informed decision about where to shop. No love, Me

What a fun addition to East Village!…read more I'm from the south of the U.S., and therefore partial to some fried chicken and waffles... I must say, these guys get it right! The chicken is tasty and cooked to perfection, and even if you don't like waffles you should give theirs a try. On top of that they have a fantastic burger, so sometimes it's hard to decide... that in and of itself surprised me, I don't often hold high hopes for restaurant burgers. (If they have the "Chuck and Moo" on offer it's a great thing to split with someone by the way... it's essentially a cheeseburger and a dirty chicken burger missing the top bun of each.) I can't comment on the milkshakes, but here they do non-dairy varieties so that's on my list to try. They have two draft beers and several bottles beers, with afternoon drink specials and free snacks. The only reason for being four stars rather than five is that I don't LOVE their cocktails, with a few versions being pre-mixed at that, but it's not really a cocktail bar so it is what it is. As for the place itself, it's always very clean (including the restrooms) and I like the decor... the staff are always top notch as well. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

I think the newest of the fast growing number of restaurants in East Village, but by far the best…read moreof the lot! Excellent vibe inside for a chilled brunch, lunch or dinner with American diner style food and a warehouse feel environment. I've been here a handful of times now for brunch, diner and drinks separately. The restaurant is casually divided into the dining area with a large space by the bar for people who come in just for drinks. Although the menu is small, what comes out is well refined and delicious! I've heard many people say it's the best burger they've had!! I'm more of a healthy eater so asked for the steak and a side salad. They gave me a large portion of the Greek salad (otherwise a main meal on its own) with the steak. Highlight though was the brioche ice cream bun with hot brioche and salted peanut and caramel ice cream inside, cut in half and dipped in broken m&ms! (healthy?!?) I've also tried the dirty chicken, a signature dish of theirs now and the full English (with no complaints when wanting to swap out the sausages and hash browns for more eggs and grilled tomatoes) Cocktails are great and the bar is well stocked! I drink gin by choice of which they have a few different choices hard to find elsewhere. The price is reasonable and I'd consider myself a regular there now! I've given 4 stars simply because I think they could incorporate more healthy dishes into their menu. Maybe just one or two. I think it would appeal the the more health conscious generation today.
