I was an out of towner who needed a last minute updo. I had a wedding to attend, in an hour and thirty minutes, so I called Blowout to see if they had any availability. I did not know the area, so I read a few reviews on line. All were good, but I have very thick hair and in the past have had bad experiences with updo styles. So i was a bit unsure if they could pull it off and in such little time. When i called Blowout the receptionist on the other end was they very helpful and checked with the stylist if my hair could be done in time. (Even though they had clients in the chair and had a some what of a busy schedule.) They were able to fit me in with Rachel. I arrived 15 mins before my appointment and she was ready to get started. I told her what I was looking for and what I did not like with past updo styles. Long story short my hair came out awesome and I got to the church on time! The worst hair salon I've ever been to. I went here to get my hair and makeup done for an event and was unbelievably unhappy with the results. The owner of the salon was the one who did my hair and makeup actually. She did not listen to my requests at all. I only wanted 3-4 inches cut and she took off nearly 10. The blowout was horrible and completely unflattering. I brought some of my own makeup and she wasted a large amount of my Chanel foundation. She also stabbed my eye with the eyeliner. It was like it was her first time applying makeup. Also, she ruined my brow shape by making them too thin, even thought I never asked her to do my brows. And despite my protests during the hair cut, blowout and makeup, she had the nerve to tell me I was rude, even though I was just trying to save my hair. I ended up doing my own makeup at home. God awful experience and the worst salon imaginable. read more

This is a review for Blowout's hair/makeup team for weddings. I have never been to the salon, and from the reviews below it looks like it could be a more positive experience. In summary, I would recommend going to any other hair/makeup team in the area. Outside of the bride, everyone in the bridal party was unhappy with their hair and makeup. Hair: I believe the issue was that this salon specializes in blow outs, but instead of doing blow outs used heat tools in the interest of timing for the bridal party. Although the girl doing the hair was pleasant, the hair itself was a bit dated, and did not match what the girls asked for. The stylist left burn marks in the MOB's table, and although she was apologetic about it, did not give a discount for ruiining the table and also took a full tip. Make up: The make up rivaled the worst heavy handed 90s prom make up imagineable. Think incredibly heavy and unflattering eyeshadow in shades of purple, very visable foundation (I'm not sure how this was even possible with airbrushing), and "countouring" with a bright blush. Beyond that, she refused to take any direction, going so far as refusing to curl eyelashes when requested. The charge was quite high for false eyelash application, but was simply the poor application of cheap drug store strip lashes-- many of the girls had to reapply, and no eye liner was placed on top of the glue to blend the strip base. Unlike the hair stylist, the make up artist also had a very unpleasant demeanor. read more

I'm not sure who Sarah F. is but I was part of that wedding party and there was no Sarah involved or present. Whoever she is, she surely does not speak for "everyone" involved. That being said, I'm happy to post my own experience: I've been in many weddings and had hair/makeup experiences on every end of the spectrum. The Blowout team was incredibly affable and accommodating and I wouldn't even hesitate to say it was a positive experience. They asked lots of questions and even requested that we share images to ensure they understood what we wanted. A few bridesmaids did request tweaks to either hair or makeup, which were happily addressed even though we were on a timeline. The Blowout team went over and above in their efforts to ensure everyone was happy. I was happy with my own hair and makeup and in my opinion, the other bridesmaids, the mother of the bride and the bride all looked beautiful. While it can be challenging getting hair/makeup done by someone you just met (as opposed to your regular service providers, who often know your style much better), the Blowout team made every effort to understand and address everyone's preferences and needs. Having gone through this drill many times before, I'd say they are well above average for this sort of thing. If I had similar needs in the area, I would hire them again. read more

Called up to make an appointment. I made it clear that I had a gift certificate which I reiterated when I checked in. At the end of the blowout, when I presented my complimentary blowout, it was not honored. Apparently I could only use it with the assistant although it was not written on the card nor explained to me when I made the appointment and checked in. I paid but was was thoroughly disgusted that they did not honor the blowout certificate. Which was by the way signed by the owner herself. Terrible business practices. An amazing little salon!!! I really needed a haircut and they were able to take me the same day I called. An hour before my appointment they called me to say they had had a plumbing problem and wouldn't be able to wash my hair. I was disappointed, but went ahead with the appointment. When I walked in there was no one at the desk but that's forgivable because it's clear that everyone there does everything, helping each other out. Then there was a mix-up which was fine, because I got a consultation by Rachel, but actually got my hair cut by Jackie. Rachel was awesome and gave me a great consultation. Then Jackie also consulted with me. The plumbing was being repaired while I was in there but they did quickly fix it and they ended up being able to wash my hair after all. The shampoo was awesome. Jackie gave me an incredible haircut. She really knows what she is doing. She knew exactly what to do after I told her what I wanted. I hated my hair before, and now I love it. Everyone there was really friendly and it's a great environment. I will definitely go back to Jackie for my next cut. read more

We both loved the result and it lasted so long I strongly considered coming to work with it on Monday. The complimentary champagne and scalp massage only add to the experience. Update from my previous review: Since my initial review - I have been back to blowout for haircuts and balayage highlighting. Fast forward to this past week - I scheduled a haircut and balayage with Rachel. I came in with a picture of what I wanted and was very specific that I wanted everything to blend really well (as I always wear my hair straight) and that I only wanted a trim with a cleanup of the face frame layers. As Rachel was blowing out my hair after the highlighting/cut - I thought that color looked a bit orange/brassy but I couldn't tell 100% because of the lighting so I asked her - and she reassured me that it wasn't brassy at all. I got up, paid ($215 plus tip), and went home. As soon as I got home, I realized that my hair was indeed extremely brassy and yellow (not at all like the picture I had shown) and the haircut was completely uneven and choppy. I called the salon right away and spoke to Jackie. She said I could come back in on Saturday with Rachel and asked if I would like to book a blowout after the color was fixed (now why would I want to pay an addtl $35 when I was only going back because the stylist messed up the first time). I obviously declined booking the blowout. I went back in this morning to have Rachel fix the initial botched job. I again showed her the same picture from Tuesday and she proceeded to add foil highlights promising the color I wanted and attempted to fix the uneven cut (she even said she had thought about putting in a toner at my first visit but didnt) She asked if we were going to do a blowout today (implying I was to pay for it - I declined) and she let me walk out of the salon with soaking wet hair. When I got home I started to straighten my hair - only to see splotches of yellow/blonde/brass with random foil highlights and an even worse haircut! I spoke to Jackie again and she insisted that she could fix it and that I could come back in. I went back this afternoon and Jackie fixed the haircut (although when all is said and done - more came off the length than I initially wanted) and the highlights are better (but not what I really wanted - however at that point I had enough of sitting in the salon). In the end, no one ever apologized for the fact that i went back THREE times for a simple haircut and highlights and literally ended up spending my entire day off in the salon. I'm new to NJ and had originally been with my stylist for 14 years. So making a change was hard. The owner did a BEAUTIFUL job on my hair! I will admit it was quite the sticker shock, however. So I'm not sure if prices are usually around this range so I won't judge the rating. I only gave 4 out of 5 stars just because it took a long time. BEWARE! Petty Tricksters! I checked out the salon as is I live right next door and was in need of a hair color. The sweet girl at the reception shows me the menu and explains to me the price of 'one color' and 'highlights'. Very innocently she forgot to mention that they charge extra if you are a "New Client". Also what was left unexplained was that each category has different pricing if you choose the specialist which in this case is the owner (Jacqueline) or someone else. Well, the last part would have not bothered me so much had things not determined by the salon without asking me. I booked my appointment with them right then and there. Two days later, I promptly arrived for my coloring appointment. I was asked to sit and wait for my stylist. I was neither asked or told whom I am getting. When the stylist arrived, she was handling two people in parallel which basically meant that one client had to wait for the other in b/w jobs. She checked with me what sort of color I wanted only to get an idea and pretty much did she wanted to. The color ended up being a lot lighter than i expected. I discarded it as a mistake, as it has happened to at other places. When the time came to pay, the same receptionist, who explained my the pricing 2 days ago, tells me that my bill is 40% more than what I expected based on the 'one color' rate on the menu. Here comes the surprise - all new customers are charged extra for color and then some more if its done by Jackie. Well, it would have been nice had they explained about the new customer policy when i came to book the appointment and went over the rates with them, something that is right on the menu labeled as 'new color' . And when I was there at the salon for my appointment, they never cared to ask me or tell me if I wanted as a specialist or a regular stylist - so the $45 extra charge was a shock for me. I ended up paying $120 for just a hair color and 1 tiny keratin shot that they put after the shampoo costing $25. I went for it because Jackie said its keratin "Treatment". It was nothing more than a leave in conditioner. NEVER do that - you are better off buying a better quality keratin serum and putting it on your own. BTW - they dont blow dry your hair after the color and there is no conditioner used. And the specialist / owner does not care if the hair color is all over your forehead and back of neck. I had to ask her to remove the color from my forehead and had to scrub off my entire back of the neck at home as I did not see it while at the salon. read more

Second visit to BlowOut. Kim did my hair. She did great. Jacqueline did my and my mother's makeup. I liked my mother's makeup, but later in evening her mascara seemed to smudge under her eyes. I used my own mascara, so I suggest bring your own mascara. I asked for purple shadow, as she did last time (last time makeup was stunning!), and I said I like dark eyes. After she was done, I looked in the mirror and makeup seemed pink and eyes were not dark. :-( Kim noticed a look on my face and asked Jacqueline to come back. She happily added purple in the crease. It was better but not like the last time. Also when I got home I noticed the purple shadow under my eyes and needed to clean it up. Make sure you always show a photo of what you want; Saying "like last time" is not enough. I would go back, but I'm going to curl my own lashes and put on mascara myself; maybe I'm picky with my lashes. :-) read more

This is an update on 11/8/16-Do not go to this salon! All of the wonderful Stylists have left. The atmosphere became extremely uncomfortable every time I came in after a while. I had partial hilites done with some red tones in them, they washed out in 1 washing. I called my stylist and she told me to come in and she would fix it. When I go there I was told that it would cost $35-for the blowout afterwards. They the were told to tell me that if I didn't buy their line of products, they didn't guarantee their colorsI I had an appointment scheduled after my stylist left and no one called to confirm. I called in to verify my appointment and they told me that the gal had left, but Jackie the owner said she would do my hair. I asked why I wasn't called and she said-"We must have the wrong e-mail". They didn't, I got other e-mails from them. Always a phone confirmation. Jackie told me she had saved my appointment in her schedule and she would charge what I had been paying,until she found replacement people. They then called back and changed the time twice, meaning she hadn't accomodated me into her schedule. if the owner didn't like you (or you didn't buy enough high end services), she was extremely rude. They are not an honest salon! read more
