Salang Kabob House has been on my list of places to try for some time now, so I was thrilled when I saw that they had a BOGO (buy one get one free) special on UberEats. It was $19.99 BOGO for a Mixed Shami Platter. So this is what I got. Each platter came with a ground chicken kabob, a ground beef kabob, rice, salad and naan. It was a lot of food and a great deal. I enjoyed the chicken shami, but I found the beef shami a bit gamey. The kabobs had a good flavour to them. The rice was soft and fluffy and nicely seasoned, but a little bit oily for my tastes. The salad was iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. The salad came with a spicy red sauce, which I liked, and a creamy dressing, which I didn't use. The naan was tasty and I appreciated that it didn't have pesky sesame seeds sprinkled on it like some other places. I ordered for pickup and the food was ready in about 15-20 minutes. Pickup was quick and efficient. The restaurant has lots of seating inside. There's free parking available in front of the restaurant. The parking is shared with neighbouring businesses. (102)

I had dinner here tonight with my husband and some fellow Yelpers. The food was great!…read more I have had Persian food many times before, but always just kebabs, so this time I decided to try a stew. I got the Fesenjoon, which is a walnut pomegranate chicken stew ($17.99). It comes with saffron rice and Persian bread. For an additional $2 you can get half rice, half salad, and that's what I did. You can choose between the garden salad and the Shirazi salad, and I chose the former. The garden salad was just romaine lettuce, tomatoes and baby cucumbers. I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side, but luckily it came on the side by default. The dressing was an herb vinaigrette. Vegetables were fresh, but I felt the salad was pretty unremarkable. The star of my meal was definitely the Fesenjoon. It was rich, nutty, sweet and tangy. I had never had anything like it before. I loved it, although I would have enjoyed it more if it had more chicken pieces and maybe a little less oil. Nonetheless, it was delicious. The saffron rice was excellent. Not too oily, not too mushy, nor too dry. It was perfectly cooked. The Persian bread was tasty. It was more crunchy than soft and had caraway seeds and anise in it which gave it slight licorice flavour that was oddly addictive. My husband had the lamb shank stew ($20.99). His meal came with dill saffron rice. Lamb is too gamey a meat for me, so I didn't have any, but he loved it. Others in our group ordered different kebabs. Two other people also had the Fesenjoon. Someone ordered the Mantu (beef dumplings) and someone else ordered an eggplant dip/spread. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their food. Service was lovely. Our server was very nice and friendly. The restaurant is in a strip mall in Mooney's Bay. There's a parking lot with free parking. I would love to go back and try their other stews (there's one with split peas and beef that I was eyeing on the menu).

This hidden gem of a restaurant in a neighbourhood shopping plaza that I might have overlooked…read moreotherwise... had we not had cause to go here for the Yelp Ottawa International Supper Club at the end of February! AND, what a better way to celebrate my *600th review*?! The restaurant is larger than I thought it would be; it really is a neighbourhood lounge-type venue. Half of the restaurant is a bar (they do serve beer), and the other half is a restaurant. It's carpeted, so the sounds are muted. I liked that kids were there eating with their families, and there was enough space to move around, and not feel like sardines in the space, so we were not intruding on the other guests. Nine of us gathered for our monthly(ish) International dinner, and Persion was the word of the day. I didn't really know what to expect, but it turned out really good! Lots of choices, new foods (or at least new presentations of familiar foods), and great company. Although kebabs are considered modern day fast food, this menu goes at a slower pace and presents the food in a way that you can take your time to enjoy the meal. I started with a red lentil soup ($5), then a lamb and beef combination over rice (about $16). The servings were generous - I ate about half and saved the other half for lunch the next day. The service was polite and attentive. If and when I find myself back in this neck of the woods, I will keep this restaurant in mind.

Short story: Love Persian food? Come here. Period…read more Here's the scoop. I had an interesting Friday in Ottawa. I had my car's windshield chip repaired. I then went shopping. At around 2 pm, I felt like a late lunch. I did a search and found Silk Road Kabob House nearby. Perfect! It's located in a large plaza with lots of parking. I backed into a spot and walked in. There were two diners when I had arrived. I had a nice woman welcome me and was my server during my entire stay. This place has combo specials. I had brought my appetite and ordered two of them: - Mantu (six) - Lamb combination (lamb kabob and koobideh kabob) with salad and basmati rice I got water and a Diet Coke to start. Both were cold and perfect to enjoy. I got starter naan (silk bread) with butter. The naan was so good. It was baked fresh and hot, allowing the butter to effortlessly melt on it. So good! I ate the whole thing, which I normally don't do. My mantu came out first. I got six of these steamed dumplings. They were filled with onions, and ground beef and lamb. They were drizzled with yogurt, with split peas sprinkled around each dumpling. OMG! They were fantastic. Each one was packed full of flavourful filling. The wrapper was the perfect thickness that kept the filling in, but wasn't too thick that made you chew incessantly. The yogurt and chick peas were paired so well with the dumplings. I highly recommend getting mantu here. My lamb combination came out next. There was so much food. I surprised myself by polishing off everything because the entire meal was delicious. The lamb kabob was yummy. The morsels of lamb were tender and seasoned nicely. The lamb koobideh was a ground lamb kabob that was nicely seasoned and equally as scrumptious as the lamb morsels. Excellent! The salad was fresh and crisp. I enjoyed it so much. The basmati rice was generous. It didn't have a whole lot of flavour, so I recommend mixing it up with the proteins and salad. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and all was well. Before I left, I used the washroom. It was clean. It was to the left of the counter at the back of this eatery. I let the nice woman know that the food was excellent. She was pleased. I wished her a pleasant day and left that I waddled out the door with a content tummy. I miss the food at this eatery. If you love Persian food, especially lamb and mantu, come here. You'll be so happy with the food here. (322)
