Chicken and beef kabob platter
Laura W.

We loved dinning in at Silk Road Kabob House. It's a great place for lunch (buffet) or dinner. Most recently we ordered take out and everything was just as we remembered. My favourite is the chicken breast kabob with their bread, rice and salad. My husband always orders the lamb shank. Add carrots and raisins to your rice for extra deliciousness.

Lamb & Chicken combo

Absolutely incredible food! The service is amazing but honestly they could treat us like rubbish and I would still eat here. I had lamb and chicken combo. The bread is superb, salad is fresh and rice lovely. Sorry for half eaten food.

Deliciousness.

This place was really a nice find. Wasn't busy when I came in, just a few other customers. Must be family owned. Nothing fancy, but menu was very good. Ordered beef and chicken kabobs, was so good. Entire meal with rice and salad was very fulfilling. I would definitely visit this place again if I return to Ottawa.

Service lacking Had to go up to the front more than once to get our server to come back to the table since we needed service.

Love the food and wish I could rate the place on the food only but the complete dining experience also relies heavily on the service which was barely fair at best

Chicken kebabs

Upon my visit to Ottawa, I went to an Afghan /Persian resto called Silk Road Kebab. I ordered chicken, ground beef & filet mignon kebabs. It all came with basmati rice, hot harissa sauce & salad. The whole experience was kind of dull. I was expecting an explosion of exotic flavors but was disappointed. The experience was not very authentic

Salang Kabob House has been on my list of places to try for some time now, so I was thrilled when I saw that they had a BOGO (buy one get one free) special on UberEats. It was $19.99 BOGO for a Mixed Shami Platter. So this is what I got. Each platter came with a ground chicken kabob, a ground beef kabob, rice, salad and naan. It was a lot of food and a great deal. I enjoyed the chicken shami, but I found the beef shami a bit gamey. The kabobs had a good flavour to them. The rice was soft and fluffy and nicely seasoned, but a little bit oily for my tastes. The salad was iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and red onions. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. The salad came with a spicy red sauce, which I liked, and a creamy dressing, which I didn't use. The naan was tasty and I appreciated that it didn't have pesky sesame seeds sprinkled on it like some other places. I ordered for pickup and the food was ready in about 15-20 minutes. Pickup was quick and efficient. The restaurant has lots of seating inside. There's free parking available in front of the restaurant. The parking is shared with neighbouring businesses. (102)

I had dinner here tonight with my husband and some fellow Yelpers. The food was great!…read more I have had Persian food many times before, but always just kebabs, so this time I decided to try a stew. I got the Fesenjoon, which is a walnut pomegranate chicken stew ($17.99). It comes with saffron rice and Persian bread. For an additional $2 you can get half rice, half salad, and that's what I did. You can choose between the garden salad and the Shirazi salad, and I chose the former. The garden salad was just romaine lettuce, tomatoes and baby cucumbers. I forgot to ask for the dressing on the side, but luckily it came on the side by default. The dressing was an herb vinaigrette. Vegetables were fresh, but I felt the salad was pretty unremarkable. The star of my meal was definitely the Fesenjoon. It was rich, nutty, sweet and tangy. I had never had anything like it before. I loved it, although I would have enjoyed it more if it had more chicken pieces and maybe a little less oil. Nonetheless, it was delicious. The saffron rice was excellent. Not too oily, not too mushy, nor too dry. It was perfectly cooked. The Persian bread was tasty. It was more crunchy than soft and had caraway seeds and anise in it which gave it slight licorice flavour that was oddly addictive. My husband had the lamb shank stew ($20.99). His meal came with dill saffron rice. Lamb is too gamey a meat for me, so I didn't have any, but he loved it. Others in our group ordered different kebabs. Two other people also had the Fesenjoon. Someone ordered the Mantu (beef dumplings) and someone else ordered an eggplant dip/spread. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their food. Service was lovely. Our server was very nice and friendly. The restaurant is in a strip mall in Mooney's Bay. There's a parking lot with free parking. I would love to go back and try their other stews (there's one with split peas and beef that I was eyeing on the menu).

This hidden gem of a restaurant in a neighbourhood shopping plaza that I might have overlooked…read moreotherwise... had we not had cause to go here for the Yelp Ottawa International Supper Club at the end of February! AND, what a better way to celebrate my *600th review*?! The restaurant is larger than I thought it would be; it really is a neighbourhood lounge-type venue. Half of the restaurant is a bar (they do serve beer), and the other half is a restaurant. It's carpeted, so the sounds are muted. I liked that kids were there eating with their families, and there was enough space to move around, and not feel like sardines in the space, so we were not intruding on the other guests. Nine of us gathered for our monthly(ish) International dinner, and Persion was the word of the day. I didn't really know what to expect, but it turned out really good! Lots of choices, new foods (or at least new presentations of familiar foods), and great company. Although kebabs are considered modern day fast food, this menu goes at a slower pace and presents the food in a way that you can take your time to enjoy the meal. I started with a red lentil soup ($5), then a lamb and beef combination over rice (about $16). The servings were generous - I ate about half and saved the other half for lunch the next day. The service was polite and attentive. If and when I find myself back in this neck of the woods, I will keep this restaurant in mind.

After a few recommendations I stopped in for dinner with a friend on a whim. We went into the…read morerestaurant to eat and they have a bring your own wine with a $10 corking fee (we didn't do this but several other tables in the restaurant did). When we sat down a waitress brought us water and a bottle of water for the table, I always love when restaurants do this so you don't have to bug them for more. Our waiter came up to the table with two broccoli soups, apparently that is the restaurants tradition. After our meal we were told that if you eat in the restaurant you get soup ( rotates between broccoli, carrot or mushroom) and if you are in orleans delivery is free, or you get 5% off when you pick up (delivery/pick up don't get the free soup). I thought this was an interesting offer and love that I can get free delivery. My friend and I ordered two different chicken kabob plates, I got the Barg. The only difference is the marinade - I wish the menu clearly stated what the marinade was as the restaurant has a lot of gluten and dairy free options but you don't realize what is what just by looking at the menu. The chicken was delicious! So perfectly cooked that it was still very juicy and flavorful. The rice was also perfectly cooked, very light and fluffy and they have 3 different rice add on options, I didn't opt in but I think I would try next time. The house salad was delicious. The bread that came was an iranian bread and yummy, almost like a foccaccia bread/pita bread. We decided to split a baklava for dessert and they were two perfect 1" by 1" squares. I am used to a crispier/more honey filled baklava but this one was very flavorful and both my friend and I agreed it was delicious. I definitely recommend this restaurant - the food was delicious and very well cooked. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and it is so nice to have a healthier option when eating out. Both my friend and I will definitely be back!

I ordered through Uber Eats today! I didn't feel like going or cooking :)…read more The chicken & beef Kebabs were delicious! So tender and juicy. The stew was OK (I won't order it again). Overall it was pleasant. I will probably give the restaurant another chance and go in person next time :D
