Freezers all not working AGAIN !, frozen dinners vegetables side dishes, nothing. Most of the digital sale items were sold out bare shelves AGAIN !. Half a dozen shoppers in line to check out-- 1 checker. Paper sacks that wouldn't hold air let alone canned items, never EVER pick one up unless you have hands under the bag worthless!! 1 star goes to the emloyees who are usually freindly and helpful. I hope never to return, taking my business down the road, Safeway needs to handle their business or hopefully end up paying the price. Been here 15 years never changes!! read more

Safeway goes old school! This Safeway has probably looked the same since it opened which I would guessestimate at some time in the 60's. The prices are indeed steep and the selection is modest but better than most small town grocery stores I have ever seen. The produce selection was fair but the quality was BAD! On the good side of things...The bathrooms were clean and the help was friendly so I give them a bonus star for that. Also, the store was very clean and looked well stocked. Over 400 COMPLAINTS about this Store(on various Sites)-- I filed with the Civil Rights Commission as well as the Better Business Bureau® --- After ,ONCE AGAIN,being overcharged I,then, pulled out my phone/camera to snap a photo of the NCR-- Then being ACCUSED of taking a photo of a minor,which was NOT in the actual photo,then was asked to leave the store and NEVER come back--- The other SAD part is when the Store Managers started to tell their Customers.. A few of their Long-Time Employees appear to live such "shallow" Lives--- The GOOD part is that the incident led to getting a nice $21,000.00 GRANT towards buying another house !!! I like this store. It is small and well stocked unless you count the TP hoarders! I don't go shopping to work, i.e. check myself out, I go to buy what I need without walking miles and not finding what I need. As for the attitude of the checkers--have you ever stood in one place for hours, legs and feet hurting and more than likely needing a bathroom break? Going as fast as you can bending and lifting items instead of sliding them from a moving belt. They need more help and if you are not satisfied with waiting your turn, get off the drugs and food stamps and apply for a job. Pull up the pants, brush the teeth and get a hair cut. Take a shower. That is what the people working in this store do every day so you don't have to spend the extra SNAP cash for gas to go to Pueblo and spend twice as much as you would here in Walsenburg!! This not an easy job. You are working for the good, bad and nasty--I know, I was a grocery store checker and you complainers would not last 5 minutes with your attitudes! read more

All the hater reviews for this Safeway and I am not 100% sure why. It is what it is, a Safeway in a small town. Prices are comparable to Safeways elsewhere. Place is clean, well lit, and staff are friendly. If you are in the 'Burg for any reason and need a grocery store this is one of your two options and while not my First Choice of the two, it is perfectly serviceable. read more

I used to live in the 'burg and we only ever shopped here in the midst of an emergency or a late night need for some ice cream. Otherwise, we'd make the trek to Pueblo and shop there, or most often, went up to Aurora to shop and visit family. Long drive, but totally worth it to avoid this pathetic excuse of a store. Aside from fearing for my life at night, this place is dirty and has the funkiest smell I have ever smelled. The interior looks (and smells) ancient and the food prices are sky high. Seriously, what resident of Walsenburg can afford this stuff? Their produce section would make a great video for anti-GMO because it does look like something Frankensteins monster would eat. The quality is very poor and god only knows how many miles it had to travel to get there. You're better off homesteading! Plant your own garden, raise your own meat... In the end, you'll probably be saving more money than you would if you were to keep shopping at this stinky joint! read more

Small town store. Surprised by all the crazy negative reviews. I guess if you are creeped out by small, rural towns you should not be here for any reason! I live in the area and have been pleasantly surprised by the little Safeway... all the sales and pricing of the big Safeway stores, good selection of fresh produce plus many organic fruits and veggies, grass fed beef and lamb, organic chicken, etc. Plus the store is clean and the workers are always helpful and pleasant. What do you expect from a town of 3000? No, it is not a COSTCO, not a Denver supermarket, not a Whole Foods. Why would it be? My phone gets wi-fi in there! And I have managed for two years now without self-checkout lines! It actually means that I am in contact with a real person who smiles and is cordial and efficient. read more

Sorry guys...I have lived in small towns all my life. The checkers here are nothing short of NASTY. Angela was clueless and was extremely nasty. The refrigeration​ is out ALL THE TIME so buyer beware, I have had to return many spoiled items. The produce is old, the items are expired and they are seriously understaffed. Shop elsewhere. First Choice is slightly, and I use this word loosely, better and it is down the street. The help is at least civil. You have to go to Pueblo to find a decent Safeway. I have lived nearby for for three years now and I used to shop there. They have gone downhill for sure, not the staff! they are great...all of them. Vicky Angela, Roger Waynette Roxie and Kim...But lately I've been REALLY disappointed in the meat section. Bought bacon, sealed meat and lunchmeats that go sour BEFORE the "best by dates". It's because of the refrigerators. Just walk by the lunchmeat/bacon/egg section...you'll find water leaking on the mats all the time. They are ripe for a lawsuit ! I've given them many chances and I quit them and shop now at First Choice. I just don't want to get SICK. Good luck, and keep your reciepts..just in case you are poisoned, for proof! read more

I walked around inside, and was appalled at the high prices this Safeway makes the Walsenburg residents pay. They should be ashamed!

We stopped into Safeway at about 8 pm on the Friday before the 4th of July. We had a very special request and were not expecting the store to be able to accommodate our time sensitive needs. We asked to speak to the manager. His name was Daniel. He not only helped us, but went above and beyond. We cannot express our gratitude enough. Thank you, Daniel! You made our 4th of July weekend so much better! And Daniel, if you get a chance, go fishing at Lathrop State Park and don't forget the minnows. read more

Self checkout? Wi-Fi? Walsenburg is not San Francisco or Newport Beach, and I think it's unfair to expect rich, big-city amenities in a rural town. And Safeway is not Costco or Sam's Club, so if you want to spend $40.00 in gas to save $10.00 at the check-out counter, go for it.. What you do get is good product, fair prices, and a clean store. When visiting Southern Colorado, I have always received good and friendly service at Safeway. After reading the other reviews, which I feel are unjustified, I just felt I had to come to the Walsenburg Safeway's defense. read more
