I love safeway; always great quality foods, and a larger selection of produce than most places around. The checkers and baggers are the friendliest around. A few things, if the manager or an employee is reading this...you have been sold out of coconut milk for months now, which forces me to go to a second store on each of my shopping trips, since I use coconut milk several times a week in cooking. Secondly, the "special announcements" over the intercom were out of control the other day, it was so constant that it was disruptive to my shopping venture. Last but not least...the starbucks inside this specific safeway has never made a decent cup of coffee; espresso drinks are fine but the simple, brewed coffee has been really unpleasant lately. I have come to this Safeway for years and as of today I will never be a customer again. I came in to grab some soup because I was feeling under the weather in my pajamas and within 5 minutes I was told by an employee that i "needed to leave if I was asking for money in the parking lot, and my behavior was unacceptable". Unknown to me what she meant, I asked her why she said that. I guess another customer had informed her about the situation. I grabbed some soup, and waited for the manager for about 5 minutes while everyone was staring at me. I left before he/she showed up. They have always had a homeless problem outside their doors but never had I seen an employee ask THEM to leave. Zero stars. read more

This safeway has alot of veterans left and they work hard. Lines are sometimes long but shelves always stocked and maintained. Bread Section hàs the bread I want and usually can get help in Bakery n Produce. It is the core and dedication of Veterans that keep this store one of the best in Ukiah...especially during Thanksgiving n Christmas. read more

Great staff, very friendly and helpful...but... you have to navigate a sea of homeless to approach the building. This has been going on for months and Safeway has done little to nothing to combat it. People sleeping in bushes, dogs barking at you as you walk up, panhandling, fights...its unbearable. 3 times more expensive AND poor customer service? Get this: So Safeway offers a $25 gift-card if you switch any prescriptions to them. I had one more re-fill to go on 50K units of Vitamin D, and so made the switch. I'd attempted pick-up twice previously, and was told the 1st time that I'd need to wait a half-hour: no biggie, but that time I wasn't able to wait. The 2nd time I found out that they'd re-stocked the pills (I guess you have 9 days to pick up). The 3rd time was this morning, and after waiting patiently in line for about ten minutes, the clerk - a middle-aged white woman - told me I needed to go to the other window, which was wrong. When I returned to her window, she had some kind of attitude, saying "I guess people aren't allowed to make mistakes". Whatever lady, if you don't like people, find other work, because plenty of other places exist to get one's prescriptions filled. By the way, I'm not the kind of person to get upset and make rude comments myself, and I didn't say anything mean to her. She just read a whole bunch into my walking away from her window the first time without having smiled, or said anything to her. I wasn't about to tell her how to do her job, or that she was mistaken: she told me twice I had to go to that other window, so I didn't argue with her. In any event, what had cost about $4 at my previous pharmacy costs $13.99 here. With their gift card, I'm still $10 ahead, but you can bet that Safeway Pharmacy Ft. Bragg just lost a life-time customer. read more

Best grocery store in Ukiah. Sure, it's expensive. Sure, it's busy. But they have a good selection of foods and the staff are super helpful. They give grocers a good name. I've been to all the other grocery stores and the closest I've come is Lucky or Raley's, both of which lose a point for location and architecture (compared to Safeway). The Pharmacy scores major points with me; the staff are really nice. There's even a guy there with a pretty hard-core eastern european accent, which makes me feel sort of like I'm getting some real international talent working on my medication, da? :-) read more

The most incompetently managed, inadequately staffed Safeway store in the known universe. By the time I get off work entire sections of the store have been picked clean of merchandise with no apparent effort underway to re-stock any of it. I can leave the empty store in Ukiah, drive to Safeway in Willits or Healdsburg and find everything I want. If Raley's at the north end of town is still open they always seem to have a fully stocked store as well as happier employees behind the counter. Safeway needs to get their act together in Ukiah. read more

I went down the isle and all I found was scarey beer...well what I call scarey beer. I can't believe I'm going to be the guy who reviews a Safeway. I mean, who does that? Well , someone who's angry at the horrible service I was given by the cashier. I had told them I was not from the area when they asked if I had a Safeway card, so I asked if I could use the store's card to get the discount. I've done this all over the country; I've -never- had an issue. Until this day. I was told that I'd need to sign up for the card, at customer service, in order to get the discount. I told them I was in a rush and wasn't going to do that. I politely asked the associate about the store's card and she told me she'd be fired if she let me use it. Bull. Another employee gave me attitude when I explained I've never had this issue before. And the only reason I'm writing this long review is because I went to another Safeway today and the cashier let me use store's card and said I could take it and use it if I ever come back. I know the cashier's have a quota to make, but don't lie to my face. read more

There is actually one specific reason why this Safeway location is getting 2 Stars. It has to do with the way they handle their "Customer Service" Counter. If you ever have to take care of something at their Customer Service Counter; well get ready to be completely ignored by every member of staff in the store. They will literally walk right by you without giving any acknowledgment that you exist. Their cashier's will look in your direction but make no attempt to call someone over to help you. I once stood at their Customer Service Counter for 20 minutes before an individual who was in their little room near the Counter finally came out. it didn't help that I could see them standing their in the room talking to someone while looking out in my direction the entire time. Safeway really needs to understand what "Customer Service" means when it comes to the operation of the Customer Service Counter. read more

I would have given the local store a 3.5 -4 Star, but recently the stopped their 24 hour day, the now close from 1-5 or 2-5 depending on the day. I work swing shift and get off around 2:30, I use to hit the grocery 3-4x's a week on my way home from work, now I have to come back to town to grocery shop then bring groceries home and then go back to town to work. Even if this new schedule didn't ruin 2-3 days a week I think every town/city of 10k people or more should have at least one 24 hour a day store. Very disappointing Safeway, I've now given Riley's and Lucky's about 85% of my business where your store use to get 90-95% of my shopping budget. I'm sure you don't miss my $600 a month, but I greatly miss the 24hour a day store! read more

I purchased a Tracfone at tthe Safeway in Ukiah California. It was on sale, I needed to replace my old one so I bought it. Turns out the new snazzy phone will not work with the Tracfone equipment in my area so the phone will not even recieve a signal! I took it back for a refund, a total of $17 or so, but I was refused! I was told it was "policy" not to take back a Tracfone even if the customer has a receipt!! What a rip off!! Safeway give me back my money now!! Follow up, later. Safeway gave me a gift card as a refund. I really wanted my money returned to me. When I went back to get the gift card, that Tracfone was on shelf still. I spoke up about it and convinced them to remove it. read more

The bakery here is terrible. I have ordered two cakes from here on two separate occasions and the first time, I ordered my cake a week in advance and they ended up selling it and not having another one ready for me. they also didn't compensate my second cake. The second time I ordered a cake and they didn't even add the toppings I asked for. They are awful. read more

Stopped into the Safeway store in Ukiah on my way home to Willits and was very shocked at how high their prices are! Even higher than the Safeway in Willits. They were not very nice either. There was no "Hi how are you, comeback soon....etc". It was like they were put out to have to check me out. Their Starbucks coffee kiosk servers could take the same Customer Service 101 that the checkers need. I wouldn't give them even one star and I won't be shopping there again. The good: They are open 24 hours a day. The bad: Produce, meat, deli/hot-foods, and selection. The good pretty much explains itself, and as for the rest, I will explain that I'm relatively new to Ukiah, and thus to my knowledge for groceries we have 3 options: Raley's, Lucky's, and Safeway. There might be other options in town, but if one does not know about them, then they are not options. I buy fruits and vegetables, and when I go to this section at this Safeway I am often disappointed by the selection first. Prices are not very good on things like plums, which I'd love to see for under $1.99 a pound some time. Vegetables are often older than they should be looking, and I've had terrible luck with potatoes both when purchasing the 5lb. bag, and individually - lots of rotten parts (I don't know if it's age, the way they're being stored, or the way they're being transported). I've had ok luck with apples, but these too have been 'not the best'. Their meat is not well butchered, and often looks too old to be selling at full price. Since none of the chain grocers in this town seem to have a decent butcher, sometimes I buy meat here. When I do, I cook it the day I buy it, because I've had experiences where my Safeway meat has gone bad in what seems like too short a time - e.g. They sell old meat, so be careful. This always irks me, because it's never a huge amount of time - just a few days. That being said, every now and then I get a decent piece of red meat, but the selection and types of cuts varies so much on what seems like the most basic things, that it almost seems like what's 'good' is what they didn't screw up that day. Also, the last time I went, there was no chicken breast out - this is poor management, because I don't believe they ran out. I wanted it, looked for it, and that section of the meat refrigerator was empty (for at least the 30 or so minutes I was in the store). The deli... I got some fried chicken and mac and cheese there one night, and it was not good at all - not as cheap as it should have been, and not worth the price I paid for it. Their rotisserie chickens are not as good as Lucky's, and seem smaller. That's my only experience with this section, but it's negative. Finally, the selection. I drink Taster's Choice instant coffee, and until last week I've never seen what I consider to be the 'normal' size 10 oz. container for sale there. I feel like I've been paying the 10 oz. price for the past eight months for a 7 oz. container, and now they have the 10 oz. (being billed as a 'new item', but which I know has been around for at least 6 years - and definitely since they switched from a glass jar to a plastic container). So now, the regular size is 'new', and it's more expensive than I've ever seen it before. Selection wise, I have been disappointed in other areas as well. One item is 'trail mix' - they only carry one brand that comes in a reasonably sized container, and it's not that good. No bulk bins of it. I'd buy that if they did, but they don't. Seafood selection is terrible. I had a hard time finding a name brand sauerkraut (didn't find it - just a flavorless generic, and Lucky's DOES have some better selections of sauerkraut). Fruit selection was already mentioned, but on that note, I'd also like to state that it appears all of the grocery stores have the same produce at any given time here. This implies that they're getting their stuff from the same supplier, which to me sounds like Safeway cutting corners because they don't want to drive their trucks hours out of the way with no through route (nowhere else down the line, so they'd have to double back and it isn't fuel efficient - I get that). However, for a mega-million dollar corporation, to cut corners like this at the stake of their own reputation... is almost a little insulting - like "Ukiah just isn't worth it" for Safeway to not be 100% fuel efficient to supply, so they just buy from a supplier that's already in town. Think about it - have you ever seen a Safeway truck in Ukiah, or on the freeway between Healdsburg and Ukiah? I haven't. I don't think they come here. Their selection of produce seems to be evidence of this, as it's always the same as all of the other grocery stores up here. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I find it inconvenient that I don't have options, and of all the businesses capable of providing options, I'm annoyed that Safeway in Ukiah does not. Also, I don't think I've ever seen more than two check-stands open, but I have seen long lines on occasion. This is no different from any of the three chain grocery stores in town, but again, mega-corporations aren't supposed to cut corners like that. They're supposed to be large enough that they can take losses at certain branches and have busier branches make up for these loses. Someone in the process somewhere just got greedy. read more

And why is it that the checkers run the product by so fast through the scanner that they miss the coupons attached to the package which would give the customer a savings? I usually take the coupons off myself, but in a rush to get my cards out to pay, the product has already gone through the scanner and only find out when I start putting away the groceries, that the 1.00 off coupon, etc has not been pulled. Its just very annoying to find bargains and that the clerk cannot find the time to notice and take the coupon off for the savings. read more

I normally love safeway. However I went into this safeway for the second time today and grabbed chocolate milk out of the cooler by the checkout stand. I got in my car and took a huge drink only to realize it was almost a month out of date.. very foul. I went back in she aplogized and gave me my money back. I would have expected more from them. i am currently stranded in Ukiah through NO FAULT of my own..i spend alot of mon ey here at Safewayto use the wifi.I am not a bummy lookinig person, i may not be the most happiest person at the moment , i am experiencing high level PTSD in connection with this situation.....BUT i try, to stay positive ya know? well in the morning I started getting breakfast snadwiches,at the Safeway deli the 2 filipino womEn that work in the morning are miserablr if you don't give them abig smile and ACT all happy they m utter underthere breath and then they make you wait til they get around to you ( and your the only one at the counter)..the sandwich one day was burnt, so the next day I asked for it not burnt and she UNDERCOOKED it this sandwich had PORK on it pork sausage. i asked her to reheat, BUT she left it sitting open on the counter the sausage patty exposed.. after ABOUT 3 MINUTES she started to take it to reheat and i said i want a fresh snadwich ..she didn't like this and later that day she acosted me about shoplifting embarassing me in the cafe, i broguth this to the manager and asst mgr attn but the mgr chose to be argumentative with me .I am quite disappointed in Safeway and its attempt to exclude me from community, by singling me out fotr harassment due to the workers not liking my non smiling face read more
