Love this store and I would love to say that all the people that work there are amazing and that I would drive as far as I have to to shop at that store....I have noticed a change in management there.....it seems like ever time I go in there there a couple of things that I have been looking for and are out but over all the store has everything I need....I just want to also as that they have the friendly staff there....from the front end manager to the store manager....it is a great store to shop for a small community.... read more

I have lived in San Anselmo for eight years. This is the most disgusting, dirty, filthy safeway store ever. 10 checkout lines, never more than four open even at 5:30 on a week night.. As I waited behind the throngs of imprisioned customers I had the unfortunate experience of observing the dirt and filth on and around the candy racks and floors. I was looking for a tomato, some lettuce, some orange juice and two bakery rolls. As I stood in the bakery, there was no one to help me. Smart ass as I am I called the bakery on my cell phone inside the store. Five times. Very cool if you don't know, If you call the store from inside the store and punch the number for that dept. you imediately hear the page on the PA. So, what, they did not answer anyway. It took me forty-five minutes to spend $9. The lettuce was wilted and I threw the tomato out. What's more? the parking lot was designed by an idiot. happy shopping neighbor!!! read more

Sorry to say, I've just about had it with this place. As many have noted, it's too small for the location and understaffed. They are frequently understocked and out of sale items. I'm not exaggerating when I say I virtually always can't find something I need at this location. Price tags are often missing, and more than once things have rung up at the wrong price. There is also no wi-fi in the store and poor cell signal, so using the Safeway app is difficult or impossible. Due to few checkers on duty, I often use self-checkout, though something routinely goes awry and I have to wait for a sullen manager to come over and attend to the issue. Kudos to some of the friendlier staff who care about doing a decent job (there is a very nice and helpful new woman in the deli), but overall morale seems poor and it's probably due to bad management. I often leave this place frustrated, and I've now decided to just avoid it. read more

We shop at this Safeway quite often and through the years we have always had great service from Mac - who works in the liquor dept. He is helpful, friendly and has always been willing to help us when we are purchasing wine. Thanks Mac! We appreciate you!!! read more

There are two Safeways in San Anselmo and they're both well stocked with organic as well as conventional produce. There is a great selection of traditional grocery brands as well as brands including gardein, tofurkey, organics, urban remedy, etc. One of my favorite things about picking up groceries here is the availability and selection of single serving desserts like chocolate cherry marbled Ghirardelli cheesecake. The parking lot is also free and the parking spaces are incredibly generous. read more

Over the last couple of years, this has become a decent place to shop. Where they used to have stocking problems, it's better, most things are in stock. A new self-checkout area has eased the line lengths a bit. And the staff are generally pretty cheerful, although it's clear they work very hard. The wine section is sizable, and they have some of my favorite table whites available at good prices, with a six-bottle discount. I can get fresh flowers and some organic produce here also. All in all, a good Safeway. read more

This place is garbage. The only large supermarket in the area and they treat their customers and community like crap. They refuse to add the two additional checkers needed to keep the lines down, stock a subset of the total Safeway offering and keep the store in a disgusting, near health code violation state. I hope this place goes out of business and a real market takes over their spot read more

OMG - a store that actually packs my own brought in bags with my groceries. Thank you Safeway! I don't understand the stores that sees that you spend money in their expensive stores but refuse to pack your bag (like Scotty's). As a visitor to the area for work, this bag buying is a bit much for me. The Safeway Staff happily packed my and this has made me a repeat customer. the deli/warm food areas is pretty good for a traveler for me. I'll be back! read more

I'd give 0 Stars if I could. My worst store experience. Horrible customer service long lines rude employees, a woman in self-checkout that yells out next, and rushed me. God forbid making a mistake. I questioned being overcharged and I got reprimanded, overall a stressful experience. I try to avoid this place. read more

Attempted to use their delivery service. They did not arrive when they were supposed to (after 5 text messages re delivery lateness). Driver did not follow instructions, rang bell and ran over the orange cone placed in the driveway for a reason. Yelled at me when I asked him to back down the driveway per instructions (no room to turn around, hence the cone), not worth the time and effort. read more

I absolutely hate safeway ! No matter which one you go to they never label the wic which makes it hard when we get to the store every single time we go we're told what we can get is different and it's never labeled. Everyone is the manager apparantly and noone is nice. I'm new to California but everyone hates there job at Safeway. You should just quit already. Thank you . read more

I just visited this safeway and I don't usually notice little stuff but this visit I noticed how organized, fresh and fully stocked the deli case was. The salads were all full and obviously just made. I'm not use to safeway stores looking so inviting. It was really nice. I complimented the employee Sabrina on her work. She was an awesome employee. It's very rare to have employees there be so nice and outgoing. We talked about her work and kids. She was an absolute delight to be served by. This location needs more employees like her. She greeted me the minute I walked up to let me know she would be right with me. I didn't feel like I was bothering her like sometimes when I go there with other employees. I will be switching to this location instead of the B Street location I usually go to. read more

Completely incompetent staff, the LONGEST lines, slowest customer service, I always have to pack my own bags, indifferent to customer's needs. Never again. read more

This is not a nice Safeway. Too small for the community. Understaffed. Employees can't keep up with stocking shelves. Long checker lines. One or two or more self-check machines down at all times. Advertising everywhere for extra savings with Just 4 U app but store has NO WIFI so you can't even use it. Women's bathroom...wow...so gross, dirty and neglected and everything in there is broken. Ridiculous store! read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - San Anselmo, California

I had questions today about cuts of meat and seafood we were buying for a party. The Safeway butcher department was patient, friendly and really helpful. The people who operate that department are knowledgeable and real pros. It's just a Safeway, but the butcher department is like a specialty store. read more

Horrible Twice in a month No checkers Line for self check is down the aisle 13 people in line 20 minutes to check out Deli is a joke Night of the living dead No one in charge read more

Since Albertsons purchased Safeway the store has gone downhill in dramatically. Is there even a manager at the store? I have requested multiple times (4X) an item that is regularly stocked at the Corte Madera Safeway and only once have I found it at the SA store. Sadly, I am no longer supporting my local grocery. There are too many other options that are more pleasant and do a better job at listening and simply doing their job. How difficult is that? read more

Worthless store. Horrible service, awful employees. Declining for years, avoid this pit at any cost. Honestly, San Anselmo is the worst Safeway store in a chain of already mediocre stores. Dirty, poorly stocked, zero management oversight, racist checkers, no customer service. read more

A few days ago on Friday night my husband & I went shopping late around 8:30p.m., the store was quite busy. The young lady who waited on us was so kind and treated every customer like they were the only customer. To the Managers you need to hire more employees who really care about their customers! Fast, efficient, and caring! read more

27 people in line at 3:30, 1 register open. This is the worst store and worst manager. Then they ask at the register how your day is going. This happens EVER TIME I COME IN. Doesn't matter what time of day. They often close the Starbucks so the employee there can bag. How is this not a resolvable issue. Hire more staff, raise your hourly wage for employee retention and run the store like a true grocery store. There are more staff in discount grocery stores. You have 9 signs in the store that say if more then 3 customers are in line you will open another register!!!! Lie lie lie. I was in row 5 and walked to the end of the line to take a photo. I stopped on the corner because the line extended to lettuce. Shame on you Safeway!!!! read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - San Anselmo, California

I've been here 15 minutes in line... CUSTOMER is faster at bagging than the checker... Bags, pre-pays, and bags his own stuff some more. +1 for the customer. 30 minutes.... Later and I finally checkout. read more

Geeez - Only in Marin can people bash a Safeway for not being Woodland Market. Geeeeeeeez! As far as Safeways go it's GREAT! I think it's the best Safeway in Marin. I have always found the staff there to be EXTREMELY helpful and kind. A few years ago I noticed they cut the heck out of the checkout peeps but the economy is to blame there. So yes they don't carry everything I want (duh), the lines are longer than they were before the economy crashed, they don't have a bagger at every line and (my FAVORITE gripefrom another post) they can't always pronounce my last name (I really can't believe some person has the snotty attitude to be infuriated that they can't pronounce her name! Are you French or something? It's AMERICA - we try! So go to Woodland Market if you want everything perfect at double the price. read more

Two stars for the convenient location. Negative ten stars for the lack of customer service or outright rude, depressive and miserable customer service. It starts with the management people!! This place needs a DRAMATIC management makeover! read more

This is a very rude Safeway, unfortunately. There is no reason for this kind of behavior in retail. I don't see it anywhere else in the area. I really wish they would improve their attitude. The customers are lovely and I have only seen nice people shop there. Today they were especially rude and it was such a disappointment. I've shopped at many Safeways and the staff are normally professional, courteous, and helpful. It makes little sense that they don't train their employees in customer service. read more

Do not buy wine at the Safeway wine sale. Their supposed sale price with the discount club card is full bore retail. They mark the wines way above retail before they take the discount. For example a $44 retail wine is shown at $66 before the discount and 44 on sale which is what you pay for it everywhere else. read more

I come here often as I work very close, but the deli is always slow as molasses. Early in the morning they force you to use self checkout but most of the machines don't work and it's just not quick. If you have a lot of time on your hands, it's ok. read more

I live in San Rafael and skip the B St. location to come here. This one is a short step up from the B St. in that it's larger. Every time I come here, I end up waiting in a line; only have typically 3 registers open at any given time. Why have 12 lanes? I also have problems waiting for any service at customer service as well. I am a coupon clipper/shopper and no matter what, always seem to have a problem with the transaction and having to recoup at the customer counter. It's typically a couple of bucks and certainly not worth the effort, but making a purchase prompted by savings, I wouldn't have made the initial purchase. To make matters worse, the parking lot is a disaster being unearthed and redone. If you need to go to Safeway, make the trip to Mill Valley or Corte Madera. read more

We just went to groceries and notice the price goes higher than 30% as usual on Safeway, you know..... that is not right, just because it is Christmas time? better see the prices before you pay at cashier! about the attention it is really good, the employees are so kind but the prices are so high. read more

The grocery store is fine but the lines!!!! Oh my gawd. It's just not worth the stress. I even attempted to do self checkout. That was a big mistake because I had produce. The clerk was bouncing around trying to help everyone in self checkout and ther was a lot of waiting. In the 20 minutes it takes me to checkout at safeway I could run to andronicos and back. While I like saving some $$ its really not that worth it. Safeway!!! Are you listening??? Get more checkers. You are losing customers. Oh and the staff are all really nice. I feel so sorry for them because they are constantly dealing with frustrated customers. Safeway your business model needs tweaking. Whatever happened to threes a crowd? read more

Worst grocery store ever for customer support. Had to call 3 people and wait over 15 minutes on a Sunday just to get a cake from the bakery. Finally someone comes to help and can't find a box for the cake to fit. 20 minutes and still waiting.... read more

Employee morale is terrible here. It seems like management must be just awful. I feel bad for the employees almost every time I go in. Sometimes there are just way too many people in line, with only one or two checkers. The checkers are nice, but when the lines are this long, the customers just get cranky, and blame it on the checkers! So the atmosphere is not good. But even when there are plenty of checkers, there's still a pervasive feeling of bad morale in here. It doesn't have to be this way! Management should hire more people, raise wages if they're low, and do whatever it takes to raise morale. Be fairer? Be kinder? Whatever it takes. If nothing else, they should do it because the store loses business because of the poor environment. read more

AWFUL Do not go here. All the negative reviews are true. There are always long lines no matter when I am there. The store is really understaffed with very few checkers and no baggers. And they run out of things all the time - in produce and in the dairy section. Every time I go there I am lulled into thinking "oh Safeway. it is right there. quick and convenient" And every time I kick myself for being fooled once again. Spend a few more minutes and drive through the SFD intersection to United Market. You will be so glad that you did. This Safeway should be torn down. read more

The current two star rating for this Safeway is not only inaccurate but it is highly misleading !!! As a mother of 2 I am constantly in and out if grocery stores ( mainly Safeway ) and I can assure you that this is one of the better Safeway locations that I have visited . The store itself is pretty darn clean , the shelves are amply stocked and the staff seemed proactive and productive . I was really impressed by their wide selection of gluten free and organic products . They have a more wide selection of brands and product to choose from and over all if I am ever in the area I would be sure to shop here! I also want to add that the cashier who checked me out was very pleasant and willingly indulged in a light conversation with me while she rung up my hefty order . I love awesome customer service ! read more

I have been a resident of San Anselmo for 45 years. The Safeway store at Redhill has always been inferior compared to the Safeway stores in Mill Valley and Strawberry. Lately, I cannot believe the condition of the Redhill Safeway. It's filthy no matter the time of day. The shelves are never stocked completely and items are always missing. I wouldn't purchase and prepared food at the deli. It's filthy. Even the Starbucks next to the deli is dirty. Apparently there isn't a manager in the store that knows what they are doing. You have lost my business for sure, and I know for a fact many of my friends have stopped going to Redhill Safeway to shop. Also, the "self check out" never works. The machines constantly malfunction. What is going to be done? Victoria G. read more

For the first time I purchased their fried chicken Friday special 8 pieces for $5. I was going out to dinner and purchased it for my 4 year old and the babysitter. Unfortunately when I came home they told me it was fried on the outside and completely raw inside. They did not eat it after the first bite. I was worried about salmonilla so I called Safeway to alert them. After a long wait a lady came on the line and said, "Sometimes the oven isn't hot enough. Bring it back and get another." I am posting this to warn others. read more

Because I live 2 blocks away, I shop here often. I'm always frustrated by the dirty facility and bathroom, crusty food in the deli department, long check-out lines ALWAYS, and empty shelves on my go-to food favorites. The Novato store is nicer, so I'm guessing it's not Safeway as much as the San Anselmo management. Way too grungy for this nice neighborhood. Andronico's gets better all the time! What's your excuse Safeway? read more

Went in for a few things today not feeling too hot, and my cashier, Angela, was just too awesome for words. The lady in front of me was kinda slow but Angela made sure to make her feel comfortable, and when it was my turn she did the same to me, just a sweet human being that probably made a lot of us feel better about life today. Wish we could clone her and sprinkle her around the county. read more
