OH, IF I COULD GIVE -10 Stars I would. We're visiting port Townsend on Christmas night for my boyfriends and my little gift. We were actually just there at 4 prior, but at the hotel i forgot the most important item for my apap/ cpap machine- distilled water (at home in a water bottle I purposely poured into since it's a short trip). I knew they closed at 5 pm, I show up at 4:46 pm. Wouldn't even let me in for 1 f'ing item. I totally understand trying to close at 5 and Safeway is nice enough to be open on a holiday (but we all know that's more money in the companies pocket). I work for a grocery store on jblm so I completely get it! I know in our store we use to force people to hurry up so we could close, but now we let the customers do the shopping and just keep reminding them per intercom that the store is now closed. But to literally be rude and say it doesn't matter if I only needed (medically mind you) one thing I can only let people leave as they're done paying. It's bullshit to say you close at 5 and not let someone just grab what they need especially when they knew exactly where and what they were looking for. Since when did closing the store 15 mins before the designated time start? Because I find it absolutely ridiculous and disheartening. I'm definitely not coming back to this store when we drive up for a getaway trip. I'm beyond disgusted and disappointed by the treatment, service, attitude, and lack of empathy on this stores policy especially the manager in an elf costume. Always under staffed, delli shrinking as to products available, some very good old employees along with a few very good new ones, but a high turnover rate. Many open shelves with limited availability of regularly stocked items. In an area with fantastic local products fish to dairy and produce, this stock could be found in any safeway in the country. My best guess is poor or uncaring management. I would guess as to rating, this would be a C store if safeway doesn't have a lower rating. read more

Overall its a good Safeway, some of the produce is garbage, thensmall mangos never ripen fully, black rot inside. Also i Never got an avacado that did not have black rot in it a day or two after ripening, for years i would give itna chance and nearly everytime i lose money, same with the small mangos.. gross read more

The most ridiculous thing happened at PT Safeway today. I stood outside the restroom in the back of the store for 30 minutes waiting my turn. I finally knocked on the door. To my surprise a young scraggly looking employee jerked the door open and jammed his spray bottle in my face. He was yelling about how long it takes to clean a bathroom! I can tell you for 100% there had been no cleaning going on in that super filthy restroom! read more

I went into the store for a few items. Needed to use the bathroom. It is filthy. Disgusting. Then there is no soap to wash your hands and no paper towels as it is has an air blower for hand drying. The toilet was a mess as was the floor. Safeway should do better. read more

4/4/2020 I bought goat cheese, $5. 4/4/2020 I went to the put the cheese on salad and before it was even open, I noticed mold all over it through the container. 4/8/2020 I brought my receipt and the still-sealed up cheese with the expiration date on it to the customer service counter. "We don't do returns, see this sign?" Not a "hi, how can I help?" Or "sorry we no longer do returns". And that was it. Well I'm so sorry to have inconvenienced you. I told the woman "thanks anyway, have a good night", no response and she just watched me throw the cheese away. I don't know who ran over her dog this morning but it wasn't me. Worst grocery and pharmacy I have ever been too! It is a bummer since I only live a couple blocks away. Fortunately the PT food COOP is just a few blocks East of this Safeway at 414 Kearney St across from Chase bank. The staff and manager are just basically incompetent for any special orders and the pharmacy is just terrible. They refuse to wear masks and turn away customers for covid-19 vaccines as many small pharmacies have chosen. The can not figure out how to get compensated at $300/hr to administer a shot that takes 5 minutes. My experiance was being turned away twice, after I made an appointment online. They first said I needed to "confirm by email" to have an appointment. When I showed them my phone screen shot which showed confirmation ... they just ignored me when I said there is no confirmation required beyond finishing the online questions. I then brought my computer into the store and attempted to get a shot a second time. They just lied when I proved that a confirmation is not required by email. Then they went on to lie that I did not have insurance ... evidently they do not like Kaiser and are too lazy to make a claim for the $30 per shot labor compensation ($300/hr). It is sad that Safeway profit by using "homeless vaccine funds". I also noticed that an elderly patient could not get meds for her surgery waiting for over an hour. She had to wait and get exposed to many possible cov-19 pr Flu carriers including safeway staff with no masks! I guess they are maybe under investigation for illegal distribution of opiods ... making it hell for an elderly high risk person to get surgery meds for pain relief! read more

I don't know why there's all these bad reviews here. I am visiting from southern California and previously lived for many years in northern California, and this Safeway is like a whole foods compared to what's down there! I mean, fresh lobster and chanterelle mushrooms! And they were very fresh unlike the sad, old ones I've seen at whole foods in LA! I would have said you were spoiled by your food co-op, but even that is just mediocre and average like many other high priced "natural" markets that are in most communities now. So, there seems to be a rash of bad reviews for this place, but my experience has been anything but that. In Port Townsend, there aren't many grocery locations, you've a QFC, Safeway, and plenty of other smaller shops but nothing really at scale like this venue provides. Parking is easy, the store is well laid out and the checkout lines are well staffed. There were even employees bagging the food for customers even when I dropped by on a busy Saturday morning. My experience with the pharmacy was nominal. I was looking for some Tylenol for my wife (she had a headache) and I was easily able to locate an employee and ask the location. She took me two aisles over and showed me their decent selection. Finding the rest of the stuff I needed was also a piece of cake. There is also a gas station that is just down the road that is associated with this Safeway so if you do their fuel points / rewards program you can get gas that is somewhat discounted. read more

For some reason, periodically rearranging the store into a nonsense pattern and playing music targeted at teenagers who are most definitely not the store's demographic are given a higher priority than serving customers who have no reason to believe they will find dried fruit next to coffee. If the manager (or Safeway corporate) thinks hunting for items will take us past more items that we will buy on a whim, they're wrong. I allow a finite amount of time for shopping and when I spend ten minutes looking for an item before finding it, that's ten minutes off my entire shopping expedition. The deli is a revolving door for employees and, because everyone who works there is new, they have no idea what they're doing. You can easily spend 20 or 30 minutes getting lunch meat and a container of potato salad at the deli and there's a good chance the lunch meat will not be the type you requested. Masks? The deli is notorious for young employees not covering their noses with their masks. Enjoy people sticking their bare hands inside the plastic bag that's going to hold your lunch meat? This is the place to shop. Properly wearing masks during a pandemic is not a high priority at this Safeway where, despite signs, employees and customers can be seen not wearing them properly. Expect your rainchecks to be honored? Not here. If you have raincheck for 3 of a particular item and only one is in stock, expect the manager to confiscate the raincheck rather than cross-out the 3 and write 2 and then tell you there's no guarantee an item will be available. Experienced cashiers (there must be one or two left) don't do that. Bagging? That's my pet peeve. Baggers receive zero training and applicants are clearly screened-out if they have common sense. I've had a bagger put all the canned and glass items in a single bag that must have weighed 40 lbs. I asked the manager to lift it and he said, "You should have asked for multiple bags." Huh? I put four bags on the conveyor belt. Blame the customer. It's the Safeway way. The pharmacy must be some sort of psy op experiment in frustration tolerance. The automatic call notification system tells you prescriptions are filled when they're not. Even calling directly and asking for verification that your prescription is filled and waiting still leaves a 50/50 chance that it's not. I returned repeatedly to find a prescription not filled and finally talked to the pharmacist who said the warehouse stock was low. This went on for weeks. I finally called the manufacturer of the prescription item to be told that it had been discontinued six months prior. One would have thought that would have been the job of the pharmacist. Long, long lines until that magical day when you arrive to discover that no one else is waiting in line. But wait, it still takes half-an-hour because no pharmacist is filling prescriptions. Getting a vaccination here? I can recommend a pharmacist who will surely qualify for the Olympic javelin throw. She attacked my arm as though she were playing lawn darts. Clearly, she was aiming for an internal organ. I feel sorry for the pharmacy cashiers who take the brunt of customers frustration and several of the store's other employees do their best (they go above and beyond, in fact) but, my god, this store is run by dunderheads. This raises the question of why I would shop here. I do so significantly less often than I used to do. However, the other options are a smaller grocery store with much less stock and prices 25 to 30% higher, a micro grocery store with almost no stock, no parking and prices 50% higher and the Co-op with much less stock, prices at least 100% higher and hordes of sprout clutching anti-pharm anti-vaxxers who think pummeled beet roots and fairy dust, or whatever, will protect them in a pandemic. read more

There has always been a long wait at the Port Townsend Safeway Pharmacy but since the new manager has taken over, the entire experience of getting prescriptions filled has deteriorated. It is almost standard to have to go to the pharmacy at least twice to get a prescription refilled. Last week, I was told that I would have to come back the following day for a very standard medication refill. When I questioned why the medication wasn't adequately stocked, the pharmacy assistant said, "Other people take it, too." Well, duh, that's the point. One would think that common medications would be stocked to allow for refills (after all, the computer knows when you're going to run out) but no, not at this pharmacy. God forbid that you go there directly from a doctor's office with a new prescription for an antibiotic in hand. In other words, God forbid that you're actually ill and in need of medication now. I handed in the prescription and was told that there would be a 30 minute wait. After waiting 25 minutes, I was told by the pharmacy assistant that the pharmacist hadn't even been handed the prescription and there would be at least another 30 minute wait. I explained that I had to leave in 10 minutes and asked how many people were ahead of me. I was told none. I questioned why, if there were no people ahead of me, it would take 30 minutes. The response was, "I'm not going to promise that it won't be longer than 30 minutes." At that point, I said, "Maybe it's time to switch to another pharmacy." The pharmacy assistant said, "Fine." I have spent many years using the pharmacy at this Safeway in Port Townsend they went through an awful lot of trouble that caused their services to degrade quite a bit I am happy to say now that they have fixed everything up as far as I can see the application for the cell phone works wonderfully well and the employees are very efficient and everything moves smoothly way to go Safeway pharmacy you brought me back as a customer..Bruce g read more

This is the worst Pharmacy that I have ever had to use. They have a new manager as of about September 2016 and there have been some improvements. I don't have to wait in line as long as I used to. I still have problems getting my prescription filled under the proper name and in a timely manner. Hopefully they can whip themselves into shape but I don't have a lot of Hope for these incompetents. read more

Since Patricia, the latest pharmacy manager, took over, this place has become intolerable: longer lines, rude staff, and an uncaring manager. She is rude, condescending, and treats people with illnesses with a lack of concern or respect. I seriously question her competence as a pharmacist, let alone a manager. Safeway has a serious problem with this pharmacy and its manager is a lawsuit in the making. I was a longtime customer until Patricia came along. I have had to transfer all of my prescriptions elsewhere, not an action taken lightly since there are few pharmacies in Port Townsend, just to avoid the unpleasantness of dealing with this woman. In the year and a half I have lived in P.T. this pharmacy has screwed up my prescriptions numerous times. I am on the alert phone list, and must ride the bus, only to arrive at the store and to be told the computer messed up and my order will be about "twenty minutes" Today the young man behind the counter told me my insurance said I must get an over-the-counter drug instead of the prescription that was supposed to be ready two days ago. If I were older or more infirm, I might have accepted this, for a drug that my doctor says I must detox off of, as it could make my blood pressure spike if I do not take it. I insisted he check, and he came back and told me the wrong insurance number had been used, to come back in 15 minutes. I did and was told they were almost out of the drug, but they were getting a supply, so I could have 3 pills instead of 90 and to come back tomorrow...Seriously? read more

Wow went to get some lunch at their Deli Counter and when I drove in I noticed that a lot of the disabled parking spots have been removed and replaced by Senior Citizens Only Spots, WTF, hey its great to be recognized as living long enough but to remove desperately needed disabled parking baffles me as people who are disabled need those spots as some of us don't own a wheel chair and need the close proximity to the front door to be able to get in the store without gut wrenching pain or even falling because they have to walk twice as far or just going somewhere else to do their shopping because it's obvious that Safeway discriminates against people with disabilities! If you want to recognize the elderly, why don't you have a day where Seniors get 10% off instead of making someone who is disabled and might have extreme difficulty walking, walk twice as far to shop at your store! That's just wrong and I hope someone falls and sues the hell out of you for removing the disabled parking to people who often are in a lot better shape than the disabled people are! I know my 86 year old mother is in much better shape than I am after I suffered from dibilitating Colo-rectal cancer and have to use a walker and am in massive pain by the time I reach the electric carts! SHAME ON YOU, SAFEWAY! Just one more reason to shop exclusively at QFC from now on where they make sure to go the extra mile for there disabled customers! I was lucky enough to find a spot and went to the deli counter where I ordered a roast beef sandwich that when I asked for red onions the clerk said that she was out of them and have to walk over to produce to get more! Well I said that I would be happy to wait, she stated that she couldn't leave her station, could she have called a co-worker to get a couple of red onions , nope! Oh well I guess 8is the last time I visit safeway, as once again, QFC, not only makes a much better sandwich and would have had red onions or would have gotten a clerk to get some, outshines Safeway on all levels!
