I can't express enough how I love that almost all produce is local and I believe all is organic. When we come up I stock up on produce, organic chicken backs, necks, and feet for bone broth, dish soap, bathroom stuff, I bulk order pasta, cheese and spices. It is cheaper than anywhere else on the peninsula for organic local groceries.

The time before my last visit to Port Townsend on our way out of town I noticed that Port Townsend…read morehad a Food Co-op. I do love going to these types of stores and put it in my mind on a return trip to stop in and check out the store. Well we made a another visit to town a few weekends ago and we made a stop here. Like any good and complete Co-op (I have run into bad ones) the products are of good quality and the food is organic. There is a nice deli area where you can get sandwiches and food bar to dish up if your heart desires it. There is a good health and beauty section where like the quality of the food is a few grades above a run of the mill grocery store which the quality can be questionable and if it's ethically sourced (same concern goes to food too). I purchased a few cans of beer and hop water. The hop water was quite good but it is from a brewery that we have a very high regard for so not a huge surprise. They have a considerable beer and wine selection which is nice. This is a great place to go and support... something I can really get behind is to support local businesses!

OH, IF I COULD GIVE -10 Stars I would…read more We're visiting port Townsend on Christmas night for my boyfriends and my little gift. We were actually just there at 4 prior, but at the hotel i forgot the most important item for my apap/ cpap machine- distilled water (at home in a water bottle I purposely poured into since it's a short trip). I knew they closed at 5 pm, I show up at 4:46 pm. Wouldn't even let me in for 1 f'ing item. I totally understand trying to close at 5 and Safeway is nice enough to be open on a holiday (but we all know that's more money in the companies pocket). I work for a grocery store on jblm so I completely get it! I know in our store we use to force people to hurry up so we could close, but now we let the customers do the shopping and just keep reminding them per intercom that the store is now closed. But to literally be rude and say it doesn't matter if I only needed (medically mind you) one thing I can only let people leave as they're done paying. It's bullshit to say you close at 5 and not let someone just grab what they need especially when they knew exactly where and what they were looking for. Since when did closing the store 15 mins before the designated time start? Because I find it absolutely ridiculous and disheartening. I'm definitely not coming back to this store when we drive up for a getaway trip. I'm beyond disgusted and disappointed by the treatment, service, attitude, and lack of empathy on this stores policy especially the manager in an elf costume. DO BETTER PORT TOWNSEND SAFEWAY!

Many open shelves with limited availability of regularly stocked items. In an area with fantastic local products fish to dairy and produce, this stock could be found in any safeway in the country. My best guess is poor or uncaring management. I would guess as to rating, this would be a C store if safeway doesn't have a lower rating.

I have no idea why I haven't come across infused olive oil before but this place has it all…read more Pretty much anything you can think of that should be infused into EVOO. I eat EVOO at least once a day. Although I am not picky about the taste, I care a lot about the quality. How it was described to me by the staff here was thar their products start with an EVOO and then they infuse various spices, herbs, etc into them. After the infusion, they no longer meet the technical definition of EVOO so they cannot advertise as such. I got to try about 10 different infusions and my absolute favorite was the wild mushroom and sage. I liked it so much that I ended up buying a big bottle of it to go. It was 30 dollars and I believe it is 25 oz. I didn't think It was too expensive compared to single origin EVOO bottles I typically buy at Costco and Trader Joe's. The service was excellent. There is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything and I was encouraged to try as many different varieties as possible. Ambiance really fits what this store is about. They call it a tasting room and I had no idea when I woke up i would be spending time at an olive oil tasting room! And it was super fun and eye-opening. Highly recommended! Their balsamic vinegar was good too but I am not huge on sweet vinegars myself. But if that is your thing, they have those here.
