We stopped in a couple weeks ago, and checked with staff in the meat department as to our chances of catching a large, fresh pork shoulder blade roast in time for our Christmas dinner. I had a friendly and informative chat with the butcher on duty at the time. He pretty well-assured me they would have the pork on hand, and would be able to cut us a roast of the size desired. Daughter dropped back the other day to check, and was able to place an order, and purchase. The result: a 2.48 kg (5.46 lb) freshly-cut and wrapped, pork shoulder blade roast came home, which I will prepare as the "main feature" of this year's Christmas Day dinner. It's a beauty! We had an awful experience at the check out, Port Coquitlam BC location today Feb 26/ 2021 around 9:30 am. We were proceeding to the express line when "DAYNA G" made the assumption that my mom had cut in line. She said "Were you really before the other lady". We replied "Yes, pl don't assume we cut in line" . She said "WHATEVER". Then she said "I am looking out for customers". My mom said "You assumed we cut in line, and are we not customers too?" As she bagged the groceries, she chucked the bags. When asked for her manager, she said "I DON'T HAVE ONE". When asked for her name, she covered her tag and said "I DON'T HAVE A NAME". When I told her she shouldn't toss our bag like that, she said "WHATEVER" and when we mentioned she has a bad attitude she said "WHATEVER." As the receipt printed out, she deliberately tossed it. There was no effort on Dayna's part to diffuse her mishandling of the situation, instead she ESCALATED the negative encounter. We were shocked by her disgusting attitude and insulted that she had made the assumption that we cut in line. My mom later spoke to the manager at the time and explained the situation, to which he replied, he will speak to Dayna. However, head office should also be made aware of the awful treatment and and unnecessarily disgusting experience. With such a negative attitude and truly questionable intention, I don't believe "re-training" will improve anything, the fact is DAYNA is not cut out to be in customer service, and her displeasure at work should not be directed towards customers. We have reached out to Head office to inform them of this awful experience and Dayna's atrocious attitude. read more

Well update-nothing has changed and it's actually gotten worse! I've been in at 5 pm on a Friday and there's no roast chickens as someone " forgot to put them on"- what? Are there 2 year old running the place. I have seen entire rows of pop been completely empty and almost every time I go to get buns they don't have them. Save On allows you to pick bulk buns again but not this place - and then You are forced to buy more than you want. I also was trying to get something from the bakery display case. Four pm on a busy Saturday afternoon and not one person was there. It looked like a ghost bakery - nothing there no one there. Then I see a small sign that says if you want anything behind the case to go to customer service and ask and they will get someone to help you. So really they're saying we don't care about you or your time - you can haul your ass all the way across the store, wait-in line at customer service and then walk all the back to the other side of the store and wait for help to possibly arrive. What bs that is! I had to do that as I had someone at home who really wanted this bakery item which in the end was twice the price of Europe bakery and two days old at least. Nasty and the poor person who came to help had no idea how to work the bakery and had to make me wait longer as he hunted for the code for my item. I had a 7 item list and had previously stopped at Fresh Mart in downtown Poco. They had everything except the buns I wanted so I went to Safeway. Now Freshmart is a small independent grocery store who does not have the buying power of sobeys. Yet- everything was more expensive at Safeway so you can get how much they are gouging you. Each item I had was at least $1 cheaper at Fresh mart. What a joke. Then I go to check out. Only 7 tills nowadays and 6 self check outs. Line up for all Open tills were long so I waited for the self check out for over 10 minutes. When I finally get there the rude woman attending the self check outs pushes past me and says to " stand back!" What is it on fire? Do you need to sanitize for me?!, no the till is out of bags! After that crisis is dealt with I'm asked twice if I have a loyalty card - no I don't want your stupid crappy air miles that are useless- and I scan all my items. I would have like to have put them in a bag but no they don't have useful plastic bags anymore. Not even to purchase! No they are forcing me to buy their useless paper bags that rip in their fake attempt to pretend to be environmentally conscious when they are actually just annoying. And finally the beeatch from the checkout comes over and says something about how I looked slightly annoyed and I said well if I hadn't had to wait juggling 7 items for 10 minutes I might be happier and then I didn't even get a bag. I did add that I was also aware it was not her fault to not be rude. Then she starts mouthing back at me that all the tills wERE open and it was a busy Saturday. I pointed out that 2 self checkouts were closed and 2 regular tills also and she just kept say no they were open. It was weird. Nothing like an u comfortable interaction with an old angry employee to top off your day. Then I tap and pay and the till says I need asisistance and I have to wait again for her to come and she says that the receipt tape is out and she has to replace it.and to wait. I said that's ok I didn't need a receipt and she screams that I am to stay there she wants to make sure I paid. Omg why? I hate this place as much as they hate their customers. I really hope I never have to go back there. Like really. read more

Almost every time I go to a Safeway I am disappointed by their lack of customer service and their price gouging. Went in to buy roses for my Mom today. Wanted to charge me .25 per rose end water holder and $2.50 to wrap in plastic wrap? WTH? Ended up returning them. As I complained to the girl at the counter, the other girl pipes up/in (wasn't even her business)to tell me how it really is...that all florists charge for wrap...which is not true? and begins to then argues with me when I tell her that I have never been charged for wrap... I complain to the manager who is about ? 10 yrs old? and he just says "oh, I'll talk to her". No apology? Such a weird experience! I am not going to give my hard earned money to a place that doesn't value my business. NO MORE SAFEWAY for me. read more

I really only come here for the bakery, but it's the best. The cookies are large, cheap and there's a nice variety - the Reese Cup cookies are amazing. Very good donuts too, especially considering they're 50% off after 7PM. read more

We frequent this location and it's great. All the staff are friendly and go well outside of their normal duties to help customers. They recently remodeled inside and it's very nice. One time several years ago, one of the night staff was acting crazy and would not help with flowers because using scissors 'wasn't in her job description'. She must have been having a bad day, although overall this location and staff are great. read more
