The Safeway bakery is the WORST I've ever experienced. Ordered a cake for my best friend's birthday, the first women that took my order was really nice but got a call the next day saying they can't make a heart shaped cake. Even though it's all over their website? Whatever, I agreed on another shape after the lady was SO RUDE to me. Picked it up an hour before my best fiends birthday dinner and it was not at all what I ordered. It was smaller, the writing was horrible and could barely read it. I asked them to fix the writing at least since I didn't have time to get a new cake and it came back WORSE. And the lady did not care at all that we said we still didn't like it. She just walked away without saying a word to us. The manager offered it to us for free but it was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I won't ever buy from this bakery again! I wish I can give no stars, but one will do I tried ordering a birthday cake from Laura today and when I was trying to tell her what I specifically wanted, which was very simple, vanilla cake with custard, filling and whip, whipped cream frosting, doesn't sound complicated, doesn't it? Laura decided to not put me on mute and say people are so effing stupid. She started the conversation snappy as well when I asked a question. I immediately confronted her and asked who is she calling stupid and that I heard what she said all I got was a stuttering lunatic that works for the bakery I hung up and called the manager told the manager what happen and all I got was a "that's just great sorry that happened" Not a what can I do for you to make this better? The women's bathroom was nearly unbearable. I have never seen anything like it at a place where you are shopping for food. It was as bad as, if not worse, than a dive bar. I visited Safeway during the AM hours and when checking out was treated very rudely by a person named Sheri. She was ranting and raving about the store being closed and having to help me. As she scanned my groceries, she would chuck them angrily to the end of the checkout stand. Talked to a manager today who said, well we were short handed last night. Which is code for: the behavior is to be expected if they are short staffed. Though the manager said he would talk to her. I will personally never shop at that store again! I told him I've been suffering from morning sickness and not only did he make an absolutely great sandwich, he also offered and got me ginger beer since I was not feeling up to wandering the store as nauseated as I was. This is a good (above average) Safeway in comparison to other Safeway markets. My main gripe with Safeway (in general - not specifically this location) is the long wait to check out. I've never had to wait at self check out, so, that alone, would make this my favorite Safeway. Safeway has never been an exciting market chain. You can get your essentials and call it a day. If you want something special, go to Trader Joes, Whole Foods or the Petaluma Market. This by far has to be one of the worst grocery stores I have been to. The meat counter and associated refrigerated sections have pretty pathetic cuts of meat. I also think it's pretty trashy to sell expired meat as "managers special" . As far as the checkout, it takes forever to get out if that store. Today, 12/08/2024, brought to the check out register an item from a prominently displayed sales tag as marked down from $9.79 to $8.49 for members only. The member discount did not show up on my sales receipt. I mentioned this to the cashier and she said go take a picture of the display tag. Not having cell/camera with me, I removed and brought back to the cashier the actual tags. She then took out her own cell phone to use the calculator to figure out the amount of my refund. It was quite an ordeal, meanwhile holding up all the other customers because she was the only single cashier open at this hour ~ 8:00 a.m. Turns out the sale expired on December 3!!!! So, for a total of fifteen 8 hour shifts (5 days x 3) not one single Safeway employee took the time to notice an expired sales date? Totally inexcusable. I mentioned this to store manager Zaine and he thanked me for bringing this to his attention. Wonder if this neglectful workmanship is incentivized or simply employee and management apathy? Wonder how many busy customers are cheated on their purchases and don't see it? In Safeway's defense, customer abuse is sadly rampant across many retail sectors. read more

My boyfriend and I are frequent customers of this Safeway as we live nearby, and we are becoming quite tired of being consistently treated poorly by this particular old (aged 70+ I'm assuming), very overweight, disheveled, gray haired, raggedy-looking woman who was working tonight at around 9PM 6/7. She ALWAYS cards the BOTH of us when purchasing alcohol, despite only one of us actually paying for it (we are both 21+ as well). She's been difficult and confrontational about it on multiple occasions, one time rudely asking "is there a problem?" because my friend (who was not even the one paying for the liquor) had a valid Florida ID, and was confused as to why she was being difficult about it. She seems to have an issue with young people especially, so she must be very insecure with herself and taking it out on others. Sad. read more

never and I mean never get the seaside combo I bought it for a early morning snack thinking it would be a safe choice but I was terribly wrong during the ride home I smell a agonizing smell from my sushi and I didn't realize it was a waring from an Guardian angel to throw it out the window or leave it on the side of the road but I was clueless. the smell got even worse the closer I got home I thought the smell was just the fish because sushi sometimes smell bad but I was wrong. when I got home I opened the sushi container and got blown away by the stench of something I could only describe as a nuclear meltdown. I mean this was bad but I idiotically continued. the millisecond I put it in my mouth the rice that usually has no flavor turned into a waxy texture similar to eating a candle that taste like a dead rat with maggots in it. then the fish took its turn to play the fish tasted like a frozen ice cube that was made out of mold I swear I felt fuzzy in the fish. and you might be wondering why I didn't just spit it out when I tasted the rice Well, I will tell you the seaweed on the sushi literally got stuck to the top of my mouth I thought I was gonna have something that smells Like rotten tomatoe on my mouth for life. I could not spit it out no matter how much I tried I probably looked so dumb trying to spit it out and not being able to. I literally had to put my fingers in my mouth and swallow it in the moment I swallowed it that's when all hell broke loose I am not joking my stomach growed in less than five seconds it sounded like the krakatoa volcano I mean, I knew something was gonna happen, and I knew it wasn't gonna be good keep in mind this is all from one piece of Unheavenly sushi. moments later, I feel my anus Start to feel a little weird. and at the moment is when I realized the hole plan of this demonic piece of sushi like I mean, the hole was the goal. at that point I realized that I couldn't escape It's a trap I wiggle to the bathroom because I open up my legs A poll of lava will come out of my anus. it takes about a minute to get to the bathroom and I was sweating. I was scared and terrified on what else this demonic little sea creature might do to me because I will be defenseless while I am on the toilet. This lava in my butthole felt like getting a tattoo on the hole. While I sit down lava pours out of my buttox as I sit in relief, knowing that I might just be OK but then the second growl comes louder than the first one this time it's not going down it's going up top floor I mean. Mayday Mayday this is a code red. I thought the parTy was over but I guess not. I guess some of the guest stayed over after the party was done and now they want to leave through my mouth while I am sitting on the toilet about 5 pounds of just stuff that was sitting in my stomach compiles all over the bathroom floor. I am speechless on how one piece of sushi can do all this damage. after all the damage was done, I felt a little woozy, but I was proud of myself for overcoming the sushi. There is no way to keep this short Safeway was having a sale on Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Twelve packs were on sale. Buy 2 and get three free. List price is $12.00 Member Price $6.99. Well they only have three "No Sugar" in total. I go to the check out and meet Tina the cashier. Apparently, if you don't take all five, Safeway charges you FULL list price. In this case $36.00, no member/nonmember price. Why would I pay $36 for something that costs $14 ? Needless to say Tina was not at all pleased and closed her register to return the sodas the shelf. This is how we get to Josh. I asked to see a manager and Josh took the call. I explained what happened and he confirmed this to be true. My responce was that its a "Shitty" deal. That's when Josh stopped me and stated " If I continue to curse he would have me removed from the store or banned outright. My wife and I have been customers at that store for the last 35 years. Spent a fortune and never had any problems. Is this standard practice to threaten your customers this way. I have reported this to Safeway Complaint line twice. They lost my complaint number. I opened a second case and at this point I haven't head a word back from anyone. I did stop back in at safeway to see if anything was being done. I spoke with Josh again. This store is extremely dirty. Always garbage on the floor, which I've slipped on, on more than one occasion. I've worked at grocery stores and customer service for 20 years, and Safeway is known to be terrible, but this one takes the cake. The store Director has never been helpful when I ask for a manager, and he smells of alcohol while on the clock. It's just a very poorly run store. The homeless bathe in the bathroom just as they do at the Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa store. I understand you can't control the outside world, but maybe get a manager who seems to care a little more. All these stores have young men who seem to be more busy on their phones or hitting on women that come in, instead of a level of professionalism. I won't be returning to this Safeway. I am a regular shopper here, over 15 years! the floral dept. has always been well stocked, nice displays and dependable. The staff are usually friendly and helpful even taking joy in their work. But for this past 6 months , maybe a year, there has been a loud cranky associate always yelling across the store and rude when i ask a simple question. I have heard her speaking to her subordinates in a demeaning tone , very unprofessional all around . She should not be in customer service, especially in a floral dept. when customers are there usually happy about a celebration. read more

Customer service by two female employees there was horrible on 3/13/2025. I so wish I knew their names, but one was wearing an apron like she worked in the meat or deli department. I had looked for orzo for 15 minutes. I walked to the end of the aisle and these two workers were talking and walking past. I asked if they could assist me in finding it. The one with the apron said it's down that aisle about in the middle up high. I explained I had looked and didn't see it. She again told me it was there, and they both just kept walking. I, very loudly, said I guess customer service was not on their job description. By now, there was another female worker sweeping the floor on the same aisle. She stopped and asked if I needed help. She saw the interaction. I said I did. She immediately walked me to another aisle, and we then spent 10 minutes finding it together. We then had a great conversation! The orzo wasn't even on the aisle that the rude worker told me it was on. The only reason I am giving this two stars is that Ruth is an amazing employee. Ruth has a slight disability, but this didn't stop her from helping a customer and making sure they felt valued! The only reason I will ever go back to this store is to say hello to Ruth and make sure she knows she is valued also!! Kudos to her and I hope she's recognized for her dedication to her job! I'm not sure why there are so many low reviews on this Safeway location because it's nice and serves its community well. After many visits over the last few years, I would say that this is one of the more modern, well-kept Safeways (Or Vons) stores that I have ever seen. This Safeway comes with an updated layout featuring wide spread-out aisles, Fresh Produce, Bakery, Seafood & Meat Department, Deli, Pharmacy, and Floral, as well as the Safeway.com in-store shopping and delivery service. There is also an in-store Starbucks. I like how the layout is so spread out and the store is HUGE and that everything is kept well stocked and clean. In terms of customer service, the workers are friendly and willing to help find items and assist when needed. The Meat and Seafood Department is always polite and attentive when serving customers, I really respect that, great job. I'd have to say that same for the Deli. My overall impressions of this store are that is it clean and updated, contains a wide variety of different products, is well-stocked, and with respectable customer service. read more

In addition to Safeway's already ridiculous prices, a mobile order picker literally pushed me into the milk case without any warning and other employees on the floor were just as rude. I asked a number of employees to help me locate items and they didn't know where anything was, finally found a very nice bakery worker with a clue. The express line (15 items or less) had more than 2 almost full carts in it, probably due to there being only 1 regular and 1 express line open in addition to self check. During the pandemic, I wish people would've reviewed businesses on the curve! Looking over the past reviews I wonder if most of the discontentment was caused from being poorly staffed during very challenging times. I don't like the hassle that Safeway corporate makes you play to get discounts. Prior to heading to Safeway, I spent about an hour checking out the ad, the "Just for U" section, coupons etc. I rarely have that kind of time. Why do grocery stores subject you to homework to get the best price? That being said I spent $200 for a $350 order. Shopping Friday sales help as well. Some of my past experiences at this store have not been stellar. It seems to get better with each visit. Mikey was my cashier. He was friendly and efficient. What else can you ask for? The Starbucks barista suggested I get the Friday special that included a pastry. The $6 special was cheaper than the drink alone would be. Finally , Austin helped me with my cart in the lot. We exchanged pleasantries, he was quite lovely. I drove away $200 poorer, but with a smile on my face. read more

Sadly, the store is utterly disgusting. You will see numerous inclean dogs in carts, sitting where our children are supposed to go, exposing them to fecal bacteria and other types of bacteria and God knows what. Several requests made to management to enforce the California health code have gone ignored. So, we switched to Raley's, which has prominent signage and they enforce the health code. Raley's is a much, much cleaner and better store. read more

Definitely an upgrade from the old Safeway here in Petaluma. Everything is easy to find and very clean and organized. I came in for a late ice cream fix and I was very happy with their wide variety of options. As I was familiar with this particular store and pharmacy, it was the first place I thought of when I needed to get a prescription for Paxlovid. It was day two of having symptoms for COVID and time was critical for starting this Rx. The pharmacy received my prescription and got it ready promptly and, as promised, gave me a call. I had given them my insurance information over the phone. I asked what my cost will be and they said something like, there should be no cost. When I got there, wearing a mask, doing the final paperwork I was informed, due to some glitch with my insurance there was a $12 balance. I didn't care, I needed to get this. The supervisor on duty took note and said, "That's not right, there shouldn't be any cost." Who was I to argue. The supervisor went to their workstation and started entering or re-entering my information. It took a few minutes, but they came back, saying, "There you go, no charge." I was truly impressed with the above and beyond the usual level of customer service that is so often seen. The takeaway is not that I got my prescription at no charge, it is that the staff showed concern and tried to correct some problem with my insurance. A heartfelt, thank you for your help. I am very disappointed with the service at the Western Union at the service desk. Firstly, there seems to be always be ONE single designated person who can do these send/receive transactions. When I go to receive my money, that one single person apparently has a HOUR and a 1/2 long lunch break, and there is noone there to back up. This is ABSURD. It's happened more than once. Secondly, I went in there at 7pm, their Western union computer had been DOWN since 2PM. Now I respect Safeway workers, they are hard-working and always friendly and pleasant. I have zero problems with them, all of my respect! This is an upper management issue. So here are 3 pieces of advice to upper management of Safeway. (1. Train MORE employees at the customer service desk to do Western Union transactions. These transactions are not rocket science, or switch it out to Moneygram which is far easier. (2. If the Western Union computer is DOWN as it was for 5+ hours today, have an IT tech person ON-CALL to resolve that computer issue ASAP! immediately! Get on it. Get it together! or switch to Moneygram. (3. OR- Upgrade the damn computer so this does not happen. It will save money in the long run if you add up the hours it takes to IT an old dust bucket.
