I use Instacart for my shopping needs and tonight my shopper was told by a manager that she should not take an order as big as mine. She was told that I should shop for myself. I have a bad back and it is painful for me to do the shopping. I also like to support my community as much as I can. What difference does it make who shops for me. Safeway was so rude to my shopper tonight. If this is the way mangers behave, maybe I should take my shopping elsewhere. If I shopped myself, Safeway would have to do more work. I would need assistance to my car and have them load my care. Safeway is getting worse and worse. They don't have enough stock on the shelves most of the time. They have a line that wraps around to the back of the store because they do not employ cashiers after 7 pm. Only the self checkout stations are open and they didn't even have all of them open for a while. Stood in line for about 15 minutes just to checkout. Not good for a chain store to leave their customers hanging like that. read more

if you do the "drive up and go" pick up thing, they give you a time frame (example from 1pm-2pm) it "should" be ready. EVERY other safeway i've ever been to has had my order ready before i even got there (always early) this safeway will literally not be ready until the LAST minute. they wont start shopping until your order is supposed to be ready. i mean, last time they were 30 mins over the time they should've been. ordered a whole day in advanced too. if you have something to do thats time sensitive, be ready to wait forever or show up at the end of the timeframe. read more

My mother and I went in today for a few items. We stopped by the restroom. We were greeted with a line which is fine, but what we weren't ok with was there was a MAN who's trans who happened to work there using the WOMEN'S restroom. This is not okay what so ever. Many women were beyond uncomfortable, I immediately walked out. Safeway this is absolutely unacceptable!!! This man who is dressed as a woman that's your employee belongs in the men's restroom, not the women's. No child should ever be exposed to this nonsense and no woman should ever have to "accept" a man who's trans using our bathroom. This is beyond unsafe. Shame on you!! Do better!! read more

Seahawks balloons, and M&M's, and a small gear section. Need I say more?! Oh yes. They had pomegranates. AND a fresh selection of donuts. This was all on my most recent visit to the Oak Harbor Safeway in December 2019. My mom and I came up for a few days to visit my grandmother and came here for some snacks (donuts) and dinner supplies. I was making a root vegetable stew with couscous and they had all of the ingredients I was looking for including dried currants, pork tenderloin, and turnips. My grandma had to leave partway through our visit to let the plumber in the house (she took the car with her), and my mom and I found much to do by looking in the Seahawks get-up/gear section while we waited for her return. The food we bought was good. I got my favorite donut, a Bavarian Creme (chocolate-covered custard/creme-filled) donut and it was delicious! The donut was warm enough that the bag I put it in stuck to the chocolate-glaze on top, so handle the donuts with care if you get them in a bag and they are still warm. The custard filling was perfectly creamy, some fillings are too sugary but not this one. The bakery had other offerings that looked good including a selection of cakes. I also enjoyed getting to cook my grandma dinner while visiting her. I was grateful getting ingredients for making the meal went smoothly! Still one of my go-to stores when visiting Grandma in Oak Harbor. read more

I live in California and my dad lives in a retirement community in Oak Harbor. I wanted to surprise him with a cake for his birthday, and I needed it to feed everyone where he lives. I turned to Safeway. The bakery staff were very pleasant and accommodating, and the plus was that they'd worked with the retirement location before. Since I wasn't physically there to look through the designs, Sandy was nice enough to go through them with me until I found one that I liked. Jackie did a wonderful job decorating the cake and making it look extra festive. Plus, they suggested two flavors. Half the cake was chocolate with raspberry filling, and the other half was white with lemon filling. It was ready on time when the staff came to pick it up. Needless to say the cake was a hit, and my dad was Mr. Popular with his neighbors for his birthday! read more

Worst customer service i have ever seen. The woman at the self check out threatened me in an extremely rude manner after asking her if it was policy to card my child while I was purchasing beer with my groceries. instead of just explaining her reasoning she was rude and disrespectful, to the point I walked out and went to Hagan to purchase my groceries not to mention I waited 20 minutes to self check out and another 5 minutes for her to arrive and check my ID. Management at this location is a joke. Managers are rude, incapable of ordering sufficient supplies of items that sell quickly, and so are often out of stock. The latest management fail is the smell of rotting fish permeating the entire store recently. Managment trying to blame it on pigeon poop in the parking lot. Meanwhile you're hit with the smell upon entering the store. The fact that they did not immediately dump the fish in the fish case and follow up with a thorough cleaning borders on criminal. People with compromised immune systems could get sick from cross contamination with the meat and other food items in or near the fish case. If anyone does get sick I hope they sue Safeway. I suspect that corporate doesn't care bc this locations numbers are good - go figure, only 2 real choices in Oak Harbor, here or Haggens (OH that's right - they're owned by the same corporation) read more

While traveling through town we were in need of some laundry detergent to was our clothes halfway through the trip. We pulled up Safeway on the Yelp app and made a quick pit stop. This store has an impressive selection of local meats along with an abundance of flowers for purchase. This location also has a Starbucks location on site. Checking out was speedy through the self checkout line. Overall, a nice and straightforward grocery. read more

I dont know what is going on with this safeway. The prices on the island are higher than the mainland and that is to be expected, but I would have to ask why quality has gone down. Every time I get fruit or vegetables from this store they go bad within 2 days. Or are bad when you buy them. Onions rotting from the inside, strawberries going bad a day after getting them home, the new galaxy crisp apples going bad after a few days, and the latest half the ears of corn unripe or rotten but not noticeable untill you shuck it. You know its bad when you seriously think about shopping at walmart instead. I have been ordering curbside pick up for about two months now. I am finally giving up because they never have any meat or poultry. I am an hour away and staying out of stores so I can visit my new grand baby, so when I make an order I request several packages of chicken, steak, pork chops, etc. Today I got one package of chicken thighs (I had requested 4), no ham, no pork chops, and 1 steak (requested 3). Bought rotisserie leg quarters today because I much prefer dark meat. Got home and discovered the breast of the chicken instead of the thighs and legs. Was dry dry dry. Without a doubt, the worst run Safeway I've ever seen. Items aren't stocked, and when you ask the so-called manager, you get lied to, being told "We can't get that", or "They don't make that". Hey, dummy, why the F do you have spots on the shelves for them, and the Safeways in Anacortes and Mt Vernon stock them? Today I was feeling down. It's been a hard day. However, Joey in seafood engaged in a conversation with me that made me feel better about my day. He is a caring person, and a good fit for customer service. Then, at checkout, my cashier Rebecca was very nice and friendly. Niki bagged for me and did her job well. Overall, I have always been satisfied with the care I receive from the staff at this Safeway. The HR department has done a good job in hiring people, and I appreciate their willingness to hire people with disabilities. I'm happy to be a customer of Safeway in Oak Harbor! read more

Lines were not long, selection of items was good. We came today to buy stuff for a picnic at the park. We got fruit, sandwiches, chips, drinks, plates, napkins, bowls and some other things. Horrible service. Instacart should really consider not doing business with a place that doesn't take any responsibility or integrity in customer service. I will go out of my Way to go to #Walmart to do pick ups in Mount Vernon for my groceries then ever use #instacart if they continue to do business only with the #Safeway in #oakharbor. If there's a problem I shouldn't have to do a run around to get it resolved. You two companies made an arrangement you two companies are responsible and should share the responsibility. The pharmacy here is absolutely horrible!!! The entire experience from beginning to and was completely miserable, not a big surprise since their manager Elizabeth is wretched to the consumer, when I say wretched I mean despicable beyond belief. I should have known better than to go back a second time, but with all due respect I thought maybe it was just an off day but that was not the case at all! she and her staff do not want to be there, they have absolutely zero customer service skills, and twice they gave me somebody else's RX!!!!! How dangerous it could have been if I took someone's epilepsy medication thinking that it was a antibiotic for a bladder infection!! Bottom line is these people don't care about their job and they are not paying attention to what they do, in this profession you must be very careful and they absolutely unequivocally are not! This safeway location is very similar to all others. Good selection, and prices are pretty average. The store is very clean, and the staff was nice. Some prices were more expensive than other stores but location is convenient and there is plenty of parking! I would recommend this safeway. read more
