I love this store so much! My only downside is their prices but I do believe in paying for what you get and the quality is fantastic. Their deli section and ready to go foods are my favorite when I need a nice meal or snack. From their fresh sushi, to salads, sandwiches, Mac n cheese. You name it! They have an amazing cheese selection for charcuterie boards and a delicious bakery I can't say no to. I also love that they have sauces and dips like the delicious ranch to go with the Nashville chicken strips and potatoes. Complaint; 11/4/2021. Racial profiling, disrespectful staff members: Lack of compassion or Covid policy's. The staff which I can only imagine lives up to the training provided to staff member HILLARY is the worst of its time. Hillary touched and removed items from my transactions without warning or care for the COVID pandemic. This bring up grave concern as my elderly mother that is immunocompromised was with me. What's the point of self check out when the staff member decides she needs to check all your items before giving the weight scale time to just level out when your already close to the end of your transaction? Why were we the only ones being singled out? Was it due to the color of our skin. They was I communicate with my non speaking mother? When I proved to HILLARY the tea box she was claiming was not scanned was indeed scanned she moved on but then proceeded to verbally try to engage by saying "with the amount of items you have it's best to not use self check out" this was directed to me while assisting another customer. It was not my duty to explain the circumstance as to why I was using self check out for the of benefit of my mother. Nor did I see any type of signage saying self check out had an item limit. My mother has multiple disability's and we specifically choose to use self check out for purposes of her own health and safety. A business is only as good as its weakest staff member. For a NAS community this store can do better. But do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere! read more

One of the high-end stores that we have is called Gelsons and now that I found this Higgins it totally blows the old store out of the water. My girlfriend had an extremely unsettling experience at Haggen's that I must share. I believe in providing fair and constructive feedback, but I'm finding it a little difficult to restrain my anger at this situation that left her feeling violated and beyond upset, very borderline traumatized. The manager of haggens, Eric, i believe is his name, the stocky guy with the beard whom I've had issues with in the past when he decided to target me when he assumed I was stealing something because I was trying to find my wallet in my backpack while I was in an aisle, which even though I offered to let him look in my bag to show I wasn't shoplifting he proceeded to call the cops and have me trespassed, went out of his way to single my girlfriend out based on her appearance, making her shopping trip a nightmare. He not only caused a scene but did everything in his power to belittle and embarrass her. He followed her around the store, making her feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. He even had the audacity to tell her that she couldn't smell the deodorant she intended to purchase or feel the firmness of the produce. This harassment continued until she had had enough. However, it didn't stop there. The manager refused to let her leave the store until she went around and placed each item from her cart back in its proper place, making her feel utterly humiliated. I cannot express how outraged I am or how violated my girlfriend feels by the behavior of this individual. No one should have to endure such mistreatment while simply trying to shop for groceries. Haggen's management should take immediate action to ensure that no other customers experience what either of us went through. This incident has left us deeply disappointed and convinced us that we will never return to Haggen's, at least until that rude, discriminatory individual is no longer employed there. read more

Good interior decor and set-up. I get a warm feeling inside when I walk into this store. Haggen has a great sandwich selection which is nice when I need to eat something prepared or am looking for a filling snack or lunch. I have tried a number of their sandwiches over the years and have liked them all. It has a good selection of other foods as well. read more

Although I do not frequent our local Haggens as many items are way overpriced, I do so complement the hot deli as the Chinese food is delicious, and the chicken strip meal is more than worth it. I usually buy a three item combo of the chinese for myself and a three piece strip meal for my fiance for dinner every now and then, and have almost always been more than satisfied. When ordering a combo meal, the serving box has three compartments; two small ones for your main items, and a large one for either fried rice or chow main or a combination of both if you choose. Now, when a two order combo is placed the compartments are filled and they are generous with the serving size. With a three item, the third option is usually placed on top of the fried rice/chowmein, which is fine. But lately, when I go to order, the deli attendants only fill the large compartment half way and place the third item on the other side of the rice and the serving size is reduced by more than half of the amount of the other two items. It just perplexed me sometime as I am paying for a three item combo. Why would you reduce the amount of the rice and third item? Shouldn't they be all equal in proportion? To be fair, the deli workers were brand new, but I have been getting equal proportions for over a year before they started. Not sure if they were told to serve that way due to new training or anything of that nature. read more

I love the local the store offers. It's so worth spending a bit more for all the better. Meat dept is simple and neat, and they do run good sales. Produce is amazing, and the bakery has amazing bagels and fresh crusty breads. The cashiers always are super friendly, and make transactions pleasant. I've bought salmon from this store many times in the past. today, I paid $89 for a whole "King" salmon, fresh, got it home and realized it is farm raised. The label says "creative" King. No texture or color. I can't freeze it, it will lose what texture it has. Not only is it farm raised, it is very low quality farm raised. Mushy, no texture to it. Almost ethereal. buyer beware, I doubt I'll buy fish at Haggen's again. Farm raised is usually called "Atlantic". I should have known, the fish were uniform size. Live and learn. The man at checkout was too cool for us apparently -- it was like we were a bother to him.....we only had a few items and he rushed us thru to the point that he didn't give us the opportunity to enter our phone # to get the store discounts. Oh my I absolutely love this store. First they have military parking, second they have military discount, and their meat department is local vendors and not tyson!!! To set it all off was today I have a infant in a car seat so as I was shopping today I had to put all my food around the car seat in my car. So I go to check out.... the cashier was nice of coarse and always nice but the bagger helped me to my car no questions asked. He could see I needed help. He puts everything in my car and when I go to tip him he informs me they are not allowed to accept tips. (Mind blown). My favorite grocery on the island. It's a little more expensive that most but for the quality- it's so worth it. You can get name brand things to save some money but they have the best and freshest produce and meat in town. I love that the meat comes from local venders when available! I have always enjoyed shopping at Haggens, they seem to have items that I don't generally find in other stores. I like their produce very much and also their meat. However today, I don't know what went wrong.... I wanted to buy one pound of frozen shrimp, but that was impossible. I had a choice according to the clerk, either buy one pound thawed shrimp and refreeze, or buy two pounds that are frozen. What's up with that? I won't buy thawed shrimp and refreeze it. Then I went to the deli counter, to buy ham, I wasn't sure which one I should buy, so I asked for a sample and received a sample that was no larger than the size of a dime, it was impossible to tell what it tasted like. I asked for another sample of a different kind of ham, same scenario. I ended up purchasing the Black Forest Ham, I know I do like it. But I was taken aback by the attitude of the clerk. The next stop, the check out counter, lo and behold, I asked to put my purchases into a paper sack, the person there was short, no smile, no friendliness, no appreciation of the customer.....gosh, I felt like I was a total intrusion. We have a total of four grocery stores in Oak Harbor (NAS Whidbey Island Commissary, Saars Super Savers Foods, Safeway and Haggen), and Haggen is by far the best for organic produce, vegetables, dairy and meat. Located in the former residence of the town's Safeway (which now shares an elongated parking lot with Walmart), Haggen has a diverse selection of goods and is often times the place where one can purchase those unique, gourmet-inspired ingredients that are otherwise difficult to find. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, often times striking up a conversation during a transaction. The store also has a 5% military discount and last July, it upped it to 10%! Saars and the commissary are still cheaper alternatives, but Haggen offers the highest quality. read more

This is where we shop. We come here every week. The emploees are nice and helpful. They laugh with you, and really just treat you as a human instead of a transaction. Hagen was fortunate enough to inherit former Safeway's employees who are still awesome- friendly, helpful, and grateful - the best bunch in town for customer service! Haggen's pricing may be much higher than competitors but the quality of its produce and meat are tops. Know that they are supporting local farmers that cannot compete with those big farmers/suppliers from outside the USA so I expect the price of their products to be higher (I take advantage of their special offerings which are reasonably low priced.) When I walk in to the store or any other stores, I wear my smile and I believe, employees especially those who may have been on their feet all day or for some hours on end, also want to see us as friendly customers- not sour-faced, rude customers- cheery demeanor goes both ways for a more pleasant shopping experience. And I do expect courteous service from store employees. I haven't had any rude encounter from Haggen. Trust in the goodness of people around you. read more
