This Safeway has its ups and downs. Its overall good. As a former employee I know what goes on behind the scenes if you will. It is hard helping the mass majority of costumers who come in but most of them are hard workers. Now when it comes to how the store is run for the consumers, that's a whole other ball game. I went in to go and get some food for home and knowing where everything is usually takes me 20 min. I walk in one day and everything is different! No sign no warning, nothing. I moved here six years ago and this store is way far from impressive. Remember the sewer smell that kept on for months and months? That was pleasant. One of the cashiers told me it was sewer backup by the Starbucks and deli.. MONTHS! How about those restrooms girls? I am amazed that customers and employees can be that nasty. Hey, food seller, teach clean. Employees have complained they have very little training. This giant corporation has their not so new employees training newbes by doing. There is resentment in the ranks that gets passed down. Ever notice theyre constantly running out of stuff? Its not that they don't know the numbers because of growing populations, or what have you. Safeway knows all the inventory to the last chapstick. Somehow Safeway is making the max money by running out of inventory. lol. Yesterday I had a lapse of judgement went to Safeway and got crab legs for a treat, Fired up a big ole pot of water, unwrapped the legs and was assaulted by STRONG fishy fishy fish smell. Did I tell you I had company? o Brother, WHY was I sold very stinky seafood.. Really, I need to know. Is the Meat Dept hurting in some way? Not hitting goals? DOUPTFUL. New employee or a person thought it was ok to sell old seafood. Maybe in California stinky seafood is ok. I'm from Maryland, never saw one stinky Blue Crab. Drove over to Starbucks in Safeway yesterday to grab a cup of coffee. Not a great customer experience it was like I was bothering them to order a cup of coffee and to have it not made correctly ! Needless to say I asked for my money back. Also the cost of the coffee is 10 cents higher than a regular Starbucks. So this morning I went to the Starbucks right across the street to be greeting with a smile and getting my coffee made correctly and saving 10 cents! So do yourself a favor and just go across the street and grab your cup of coffee! read more

Irene at the sushi counter is amazing!!!! Not only if the sushi and sashimi great quality but the service is amazing! Irene is friendly and if you don't see something you like she can and will make you whatever you would like! I requested sushi rolls minus the rice and it was delicious! read more

I had been a long time fan of this location. However, over the past 1-2 years, the quality of the produce and customer service have really declined. There are now many new employees, as most of the long-term have either gone to the Tennant location or left altogether. The new crew doesn't seem as well trained, confident and friendly as the "old" staff always had been. I recommend those of you that are not satisfied, take the time and go to Safeway.com and send in your comments. Worst customer service by cashier Esmeralda today. Here is the breakdown... - we waited for her to ring up two customers in front of us. -The first customer had about 5 items. She took about 4 minutes to bag their items. The total transition tool about 6 or 7 minutes. - The second customer had 1 item. She took about 4 minutes to complete this transaction. - She serviced both customer with no smile or eye contact. - It is now our turn. As expected, no "hello" or "hi" or acknowledgement. Just started scanning. I handed her a deli item my daughter was eating because I assumed the deli person weighed and tagged the bag. No problem right? NOPE! No tag so she RUDELY said, "did you take the label off?" What?! Why? Apparently that's my goal to get 4 free pieces of potato wedges by tearing off the tag for that $1 or $2 item. Told her to go get a label and charge me for a pound, even though 4 small pieces of potato wedges is not a pound. Again, she RUDELY said "just take it since it is a weighed item and your daughter is eating 1." Told her to go get someone to bring a 1 pound Label. Didn't happened as she ignored me and told me my total for the items she scanned. *** I don't think I have every experienced bad customer service at any Safeway I have shopped at until now. Safeway on Dunne, you FAILED on hiring this person or you FAILED on training her to have customer service communication skills. The best part? She is giving away your profits little by little. It's Safeway, but stepped up a notch! They just finished remodeling, to keep up with the one next exit down (less than a mile I believe). But this one has god a great bulk bin area (bigger than Nob Hill's). They even sell powdered milk in bulk, tons of fun snacks and the yummiest looking (and tasting) peanut butter bar. My daughter and I got the Chocolate Peanut Butter, a huge bin filled with peanuts and chocolate chips, HEAVEN!!! (needs a few salted peanuts though). There is also a hot flavored nut bar, they give samples and they are great! Honey in bulk too! Nice to see as it's usually cheaper to buy in bulk (less waste!). They have a gourmet foodie aisle, you can even buy a blender there, so I would pop in there for a great gift for someone (instead of Ross or TJ Maxx) get a nice platter, some fun nuts or freshed made butters, nothing like really thinking of person and what they like! The New Team: 1 ) Harasses the Checkers, so please be nice to them. I have never seen so many checkers slightly pale with shaking hands after descending from the upstairs office. 2) Ask for Nutritional Yeast and New Management sends you to Feminine Products. FYI Nutritional Yeast is Food and located in Bulk Foods with Baking. Except, he could not find it there either. 3) The addition of powdered herbs is SPECTACULAR!! They even have Spice Jars!! I guess I should start this by saying I've always been a huge fan of Nob Hill foods. But my boyfriend prefers Safeway. I went here on Christmas Eve to pick up meat for Christmas dinner. There was no place to park so I parked in one of the outer parking lots. The grocery cart froze up and I had to hand carry my food from the cart to the car back-and-forth back-and-forth after dragging The cart loaded with groceries out of the middle of the driveway. Self check-out is a complete joke at this store. Many of us use self check-out as the checkers at the "full-service" registers are slow, incompetent, suffering from an argument with their significant other or just do not know how to curb a conversation with a customer! Friendliness is great, but these folks must learn how to manage a conversation! Which brings me to the rude surly attendant at the check-out lanes on December 20, 2019 at 10:45 AM. I have a special cut prepared in the meat department. And as has been done in the past, the meat department wrote a code on the price tag; it does not have a bar code. This happened to once before, and the attendant at the check-out lanes assisted in getting the code into the scanning screen. When I asked Ms. Surly for assistance, she said in a sarcastic way "you have to go through the regular checkout with that." So, I did look at the lines - and yes, you guessed it: backed up - a lot! So, I took my specially cut standing rib roast which had a price tag of $131.00 dollars on it back to the meat department and I left! I have been in a lot of Safeway Stores and this is one of the most poorly managed of all I have been in. The reality for this location? The Store manager is totally inept and that is a fault of ownership. Safeway is actually owned by an opportunistic equity firm and they are just waiting for the right moment to sell this brand. But Cerberus wants you to think that Albertson's owns Safeway because Cerberus owns Albertson's! Ha! So long, its been nice to know you, so long its been nice to know you, but I've got to be moving along! And wise shopper's would be well advised to leave Safeway as well! read more

I have been shopping here for years. I do enjoy Safeway and love their app. But....The management not telling us they were going to remodel is not OK! I shop there weekly and if I would have known they were remodeling I would not have been so upset. But now I'm ticked. You could have given me a heads up. I have been shopping at this location several times a months since I moved to the Morgan Hill area over a year ago. Safeway can be very reasonable if you stick to items that are discounted/on sale with the club card. Otherwise, things can be overpriced. Most of the employees are very friendly, which is a huge plus. Last week I had an incident while shopping here that has cost Safeway most, if not all, of my business. My husband and I made a large purchase (over $350). There was no one to bag our groceries so my husband had to assist and then, on his own, load up the cart. I entered in my club card information and then went to pay by check. I have written many checks here and I have never had a returned check. We also had more than enough money in our bank account to cover the check, so we were surprised when there appeared to be an issue processing our check. The cashier tried to run the check through their system multiple times, becoming visibly more impatient and aggravated. We asked if the check was declined, he said no but could not tell us what was wrong. He finally, loudly, announced that there was a problem with our check and that we had to go to customer service. He marched us to the desk in the front of the store. We had to stand in line for ten minutes before someone came to help us. She couldn't tell us what was wrong and said she was going to make a phone call. we had to wait another ten minutes for her to tell us that our purchase that day didn't fit with our purchase history so they weren't going to accept our check. I thought this was outrageous! She said we could pay with our bank card. We couldn't figure out why this wasn't asked of us twenty minutes earlier. There are more details to this trip that I could complain about, but this review is becoming too long. Bottom line, I was very surprised and disappointed that Safeway treats it's customers in this way. What a hassle and let down. While we were trying to load up our car a very friendly employee who was working in the lot collecting carts (therefore missing the big scene inside) walked over and asked if we needed help unloading our cart. It's too bad that the friendly and helpful attitude of many the employees doesn't reflect the corporate attitude that can seem to punish loyal customers. read more

The fruits and veggies are always fresh. The people in the meat department is always helpful. Parking is always easy. This is my go-to place for my groceries. Wow Safeway on E. Dunne Ave, you've done it again! Just came home with 2 packs of chicken wings and BOTH had SPOILED ROTTEN. I wretched and nearly puked after opening 1 package. The other package was so bad, you could smell it through the plastic wrap. And to top things off, 2 of the 5 prepackaged salads I purchased had today's expiration date. All 4 are going back NOW. I too have experienced the same scenario as Jason. I was there one night and they closed all the registers at the same time while there was a big line. One would think that taking turns closing would be more efficient, but efficiency is not a Safeway policy. It is really frustrating. I have had so many bad experiences with Safeway and it seems no matter what town you go to, they have a bunch of temps or recovering addicts working there. One Safeway would interrogate me for my Safeway club card. Who really cares about the stupid cards anyway. Is the CIA really concerned that we are buying El Patio vs. Lays Chips? Also, all of the vegetables are way over priced and about to rot. They have no food quality preferences, only price preferences. The staff ignores you when you look like you have a question. I almost feel like every time I go into the store, I am observing the worst human efficiency problems possibly in one box store. My last experience was getting a sandwich there. I knew it was a bad idea and that I should have taken the time to go somewhere else. I don't think I am exaggerating that the person preparing the sandwiches was recovering from something! She was twitching uncontrollably, humming to her own tune, coughing every two minutes and satisfied with not attempting to multi task in any way, shape or form. Meanwhile,another worker just hovered around her doing nothing. I finally asked her who the guy was. Surely, he was some kind of supervisor. She said he was a temp taking the place of the regular sushi maker. I told her that he appeared to be the most un-useful person in the store. He literally was watching the sandwich maker take care of several customers without offering to help. Then he goes on a break! Be a rebel and cut up your Safeway cards! I've been coming here for some time and I'm impressed by what this location in particular has achieved. Here are some things you may not know: * Excellent and very large selection of bulk organic grains and legumes, on par with Whole Foods and smaller organic retailers * Organic free range beef selection is really good and consistently in stock * Organic free range GMO-free chicken selection is consistently in stock * Organic veggies, decent selection * Organic fruit juices * Organic GMO-free chips * Organic GMO-free cheeses * In-house amenities include: Wells Fargo, Starbucks, a Pharmacy, a modest lounge with seating, a clean restroom (near the pharmacy), a bakery, a pre-made food section, a water filling station, and an ice freezer. * They stock 20 lb bags of salt which are used for water softeners (quite necessary in Morgan Hill) * Open 24/7 * Self checkout lanes are usually available and pretty quick. * They do not sell alcohol between 2am - 6am. * They do not permit alcohol sales in self checkout lanes. * Self checkout lanes are not available late at night * Late at night, only one door is open (left-most door when facing the store) * Service is always polite. I don't think I've had one bad experience here in the last 20 years. So, as much as I don't like big chain stories... this particular Safeway deserves a five-star review. Well done. read more

We stop here regularly to pick up a sandwich on our North/South Cali trips. The deli has decent sandwiches with all the trimmings. But they are made as ordered, so if you're in a hurry - go elsewhere. Especially if the woman in front of you is an indecisive princess. This is a great location for those that live in Morgan Hill because they are open 24/7. As anyone who lives here knows, options are very limited after 11pm. This Safeway is also well stocked and has a very wide selection of items. It's also kept clean. My only complaint is that it's sometimes a bit difficult to traverse the aisles late at night when they are in the process of restocking their shelves. They can also be bit pricey, but if you buy the right items along with using your club card, you can save a bit. read more

We ordered Cooked Turkey with side dishes from Safeway couple of days before Thanksgiving. It was to be picked up at 5 PM on Thanksgiving day. They did not warn us that is has to be cooked 2.5 to 3 hours more after our pickup time of 5 PM, and all side dishes were frozen packages . Now, we cannot have dinner before 8 PM at the earliest. I guess an employee of Safeway, Dorthy, thinks I was going to steal the store basket. Everytime I do my shopping at this Safeway I would use the hand held basket. And after I finish paying, I always take the basket outside of store to drop my groceries in my car and then place the basket in a cart in the parking area. But tonight I tried doing them same and Dorthy stopped me from leaving the store with the basket and threaten me that she would called the manager, which I told her she could go ahead and do. Instead she brought some else who was not the manager. They literally blocked me from exiting the store!! They told me I couldn't leave with the basket, so instead of making a big deal I decided to remove my stuff from the basket and just leave. I will not be coming back to this Safeway. Ive been living in Morgan Hill now for almost 2 years. And I prefer the E Dunne Location. However, recently for the first I had to go pee and I could not wait to get home. Left the cart with husband and hurried on over. As I got to the restroom area, there was a smell that I did not like. Once I got inside, the restroom was disgusting. Like, it should never ever look this bad. Someone needs to get it together here. Toilet paper everywhere, floors were dirty as if it is not cleaned regularly. And the trash was toppled over with female napkins on the floor, clearly used. Gross gross gross! I love this store, but I truly believe a persons bathroom speaks volumes of the way they live and I'm not sure about this place anymore. When I mentioned to my husband how gross it was, he told me the restrooms here are always bad. My husbands lived here all his life. There wasn't any seat covers, so I had to improvise with toilet paper. I really could not hold it, or else I would have just waited to get home. Sink was dirty and no paper towels available in BOTH dispensers. I'm positive this is not 1 days worth of mess. Get it together people!! read more

We have shopped at this Safeway for years. I was very disappointed when I went in the other morning and from 2 aisles away, I could hear the workers in the produce dept using the "f" word. When I mentioned that I could hear them and did not appreciate that especially when I was shopping with my four year old, the response was, "We are used to being alone". Safeway.com home delivery. This is the biggest waste of time and money. I placed an order for over $100 with a delivery the next day between 2p-3p. When the useless driver showed up, he seemed lost about doing his job and if he had previously delivered the right items. The items were delivered in wet soggy bags. When I verified that all was there, I found that many of the items ordered were missing and the driver was clueless. He mentioned something about a credit in three to four days. Not once did he offer to have the missing items delivered later that day. He left without being any help. I called the 1-800 customer service number. The CSR was able to reschedule a replacement delivery that day between 4p-6p. I got a call later telling me that the store manager refused to deliver the missing items, as promised. The str mgr stated the he didn't want to devote any of his in store employees to pick the items or deliver them. He said I would have to wait for another day to get the items, that I had already paid for. Like I said this service is a waste! THIS IS WHY PEOPLE SHOP AT WAL MART! read more

I'm writing this review while irritated at this Safeway location. But, as you can see by the 4 Stars, I am being fair still :) They are getting docked 1 Star for how they deal with phone calls. Actually, they get a 1/4 Stars on their Phone call taking skills ;) I tried to order a birthday cake, and the bakery was "just" closed. So, they said they would page someone to take my order. A guy answered the phone and asked me to hold so he could find the order form sheets. Not a problem. Until I'm still sitting there 10 min's later... until finally they either hung up on me, or the call was dropped. So, I wait 10 min's to give them time to find their forms... (and meanwhile also try the Tennant Stn. location - see that review too ;) When I called back the same guy answered and he told me to wait again, and he "promised" to come back this time. Nope... hung up on AGAIN. So, since I'm a sucker for punishment, and up for a challenge... I call AGAIN, and this time a really nice girl answered. I explain what keeps happening, she apologizes and tells me that she needs to put me on hold, laughs, and says she won't hang up on me. But... guess what?! Oh yes.... hung up on yet AGAIN!!!!!! Now, I give up. I guess this "challenge" of putting a birthday cake / cupcake order in is too irritating to bother with anymore. I've spent about an hour between 2 Safeway locations trying my best to get a birthday cupcake order in for my son's 10th birthday. I was going to bring them to him at school tomorrow as a surprise. Oh, yeah... and as for the store itself... beautiful! Nice people! Just don't "call" them on the phone ;) Update: Okay, I didn't "give up" -- I went into the store to place my cake order in person, and spoke with the final girl where the hang-up occured again. She said she felt bad that the call had been lost again. She was super nice, and helped me out with the order. She mentioned something being wrong with the phone lines, possibly... BUT, having said that... the one guy kept putting me on hold, and coming back to put me on hold... over and over, so apparently the phone lines don't want to continue sitting on hold forever ;) And, then there was a mix up at the check out... the cashiers were all changing registers, and suddenly "no" register was open for a few minutes, while a bunch of people clustered around the area where they said it would open up. Several of the customers were getting really irritated... but I was taking it all in stride at this point, and kind of laughing at the ongoing problems with Safeway lately.
