I am incredibly lazy so I shop at the store closest to home which is this one. Why oh why do they make it so difficult to just get in the store? First you navigate around the soup kiosk and then squeeze past the display of salads and pre-made sandwiches. Once past that you are faced with the sandwich ordering kiosk and hot foods stand. It's like they don't really want your business. However, once inside you'll find fresh baked breads and pies, especially my favorite iced Cookie's. There are color coded bags so you don't get away with paying less for the organic produce. You can buy ice chests, lawn furniture, Valentines candy on Dec 26th, and any kind of gift card you can imagine. Too bad this is one of the older ones. You have to go across town to the 'new' store if you want to sample wine and cheese or have s sushi roll at the counter. No Jamba Juice or homemade peanut butters only a lonely Starbucks. The best and worst part is we've gone here for so many years that quite a few employees know our family but also know way too much us and my hobbies thanks to my husbands chattiness. read more

I ordered Doordash Deli sandwich at 1554 1st st. 1 hour, 4 dashers later and I call. On hold with music 6 minutes. Someone finally picks up, but it isn't the deli. I explained my story, and told her I am starting to get REALLY frustrated. She puts me on hold to walk over there, then picks up when at deli to tell me she is waiting to talk to someone. Finally a person gets on to tell me they are sorry they just got back from break (the order was 56 minutes old and not started at this point). She then said she does not have an everything roll, nor the dutch crunch. I then said cancel the order. She tells me her Doordash is broken (but she knew I ordered a sandwich with an everything roll). I realized that I can cancel, which I did. The service is horrendous at this store. And they have NOOOOO competition. Those on the North side have NO store except the Ranch 88 that doesn't carry American food. read more

Went for 4 specific items, 2 were on ad. Out of stock on ALL. Waited 10 min for nonexistent Customer Services. Person who did "help" was grumpy, rude. Beware of expired dates, and OVERCHARGING. Grocery Outlet has inconsistent stock, but great variety. Found hard-to-find imports there! Excellent prices, NEVER overcharged, staff always happy, cheerful help for carry outs when needed. Unintuitive store layout so you circle around looking for basic items. Higher prices for produce, compared to Trader Joe's. A lot of the employees seem stoned as they are pretty apathetic. Go elsewhere. read more

It's my local Safeway, so I go here. But sometimes the lines are soooooooooo long. And every time, there's a bunch of tweakers hanging out at the tables in front of the store. Lock your car doors as they've grown in population as of late and tend to wander in and hang out in the parking lot. Oh and I almost forgot about the deli. Slowest service on the planet. Make sure you give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes to get where you're going if you intend to stop here for a sandwich first. Literally 10-15 minutes extra - especially in the morning. read more

I came here before work to pick up some sushi and a deli sandwich. Joanna is making the sandwiches when I walk up. I ask for a turkey and havarti toasted. She put the turkey on the sandwich ok but put a slice of havarti that was clearly old as all three sides were discolored and hard. I had to tell her not to put it on my sandwich. Although I have been a loyal Safeway shopper for years, spending over $8500 over the past 18 months, I refuse to ever shop at the Livermore Safeway again. They had their lemon water on sale in June for $.99 for a six pack if you bought a minimum of 8. There was no limit on the amount you could buy. I saw the sale while I was in Seattle and sent my husband to our local Livermore to pick up a bunch. He called to tell me that they were out of the lemon and planned on hitting the two Livermore Safeways daily to pick up whatever they had. Since I was in Safeway when he called I asked the cashier if I could get a rain check (they were also out of the lemon.) I asked the cashier if there was a limit, he said no, I just had to buy a minimum of 8 to get the price. He then gave me a rain check for 100. The ONLY stipulation on the rain check stated that it had to be redeemed within 90 days. My husband took the rain check to our local Safeway and the manager refused to honor it. He said that there was a limit on the amount on rain checks of 6 (hmmm, you had to buy a minimum of 8 to receive the special price) and he was not willing to honor it. Danny, the manager, was very rude and kept on insisting that all rain checks have a maximum of 6, although it is not stated anywhere and the number written on my rain check clearly states 100. He said that he would lose money if he sold them to me. Apparently he cannot do the math as he has now lost all future grocery shopping we would have done at his store. My rain check is valid until September 4th. The ball is in Safeway's court, they can either honor a valid rain check or lose our business. The only good thing that has come out of this is that I lecture nationally in the area of customer service. This will be a great story to share with the audience - how to lose loyal customers by not honoring your promise. read more

In a crunch, and ONLY in a crunch do I brave this place. It is close, only thing going for it, and it is not lucky's, for some reason their stores tweak me out. But this place has so many problems angry cashiers. 3 times out of ten I will be behind someone in checkout with food stamps. I'm not making a statement about food stamps here, but the problem is not that, it's that it's so slow, and so common. Safeway can't help who comes, but the services is so bad. Also the bakery seems to have quality issues, because we have gotten so much bad desserts, and service there. I have had good service in flowers, but that is it. Man sounds like i'm a regular ... Was disappointed there were no disabled carts available as daughter was on crutches. Then stood in line for 10Minutes only to be told we were in a 15 items or less line when we reached the cashier - the sign was sideways - not visible from the queue, and covered by balloons even when looking from the side! After spending another 10 Minutes in a different line the cashier disappeared for almost 10 minutes before ringing us up .... and member card did not work. This is the first time I'm writing against Safeway as I had the worst and the most terrible experience ever. I purchased flowers and a candle with the help of the lady (pic attached) and before makinga payment, I confirmed if I could pick the flowers before midnight. This lady assured me that I can pick them up before midnight as she will be here today and she asked me to trust her because she understands that she's taking responsibility. So I trusted her but when I came back, there was this guy (pic attached) who refused to give me the stuff and talking nonsense. Initially he was saying that his birthday is on March 29th but he never get flowers or gifts from anyone. He was constantly talking and being extremely frank to me. I was quiet. Then I asked the price of the blue-colored balloons to the lady and he responded, saying it's free for me from him. I ignored him considering he's drunk because his breath was stinking like a drunkard. Later, the lady tried to help me by finding the flowers. She got it from somewhere inside but she couldn't find the candle so she apologized. Even though i paid for the candle but I followed the lady's instructions to pick up the candle the next day. I was about to leave when this guy showed up again and yelling at me that I can't take the flowers. He was laughing and yelling at the same time, and a couple of times he was trying to touch me. I told me immediately not to touch me. The lady told me to take the flowers and ignore him. The guy then started making the video and harassing me that he'll call the police. He was yelling on top of his voice and constantly harassing me by coming closer which scared me. But when I said I'm calling the police and tried calling 911, this guy had gone away and never showed up. He was neither inside nor outside and I was shocked how he ran away when he heard about the police. This proves he was harassing me and had some really bad intentions but the word 'police ' scared him. Later, the woman assisted by another nice gentleman gave me the flowers and refunded the amount by apologizing for the man's behavior and for not finding the candle. I request the Safeway corporate staff to avoid hiring cheap men who are drunk while working as they lose their senses and try to harass customers. This guy said a bad word which I can't say here and one of the customers encouraged him which made me realize that they're probably being racist because it was kinda racist remark. But I prefer to stay quiet because I often see racism in USA! read more

Unfortunately I do have to go to this safeway as it is close to my house - the one on the other side of town I would highly suggest if you have time. Every single time I shop here I am charged the wrong price for items and have to get back into line at customer service to receive my refund for items that were scanned incorrectly. I have found there is not much stock of items at this store either... the employees are not friendly and to top it off, we got food poisoning from their chinese food bar. Bleh. read more

Let's give this poor store a break and realize they are trying. They do so much for the community, employ 100's of people. I see complaints about being out of stock and then another complaint about employees stocking in the aisle while they are shopping Their dammed if they do and damned if they don't. Boo hoo hoo! You had to wait 10 minutes to be checked out. These people are working for minimum wage and doing their best to lower prices and compete in a time where it's difficult to compete with online merchants and pay outrageous California rents on top of rising Minimum wage costs, benefits etc. The most annoying thing I read is blaming the manager. If all you narrow minded people only knew...... I think the customers needs to take a good look in the mirror at their own self absorbed selves and take a deep breath that their biggest worry is having to move over in an aisle to get around a stocker of heaven forbid wait 10 minutes to check out. The nicest and cleanest Safeway in a 30 -50 miles radius. The deli section is huge and they make the best sandwiches. I ordered a turkey/avo sandwich and it tasted so fresh. I would eat lunch here daily if I could but it's far from my work. The fruits and vegetables section is well stocked and everything looks perfect. read more

Ok, let's say you don't want to cook, don't want to order greasy dough plate w/ salt tomato sauce and cheese (people dare to call that pizza, ever been in Italy?) don't want to go out for dinner. My suggestion, go get Shanghai menu at Safeway. For just $20 two person can eat dinner twice for this. Did not have all options, just the mandarin chicken with rice. Good enough for me/us. This store is ridiculous and the manager doesn't give about patrons. They would not accept my federally issued ID after not recognizing it at first glance, asked no questions and denied me purchase of wine. The cashier Blanca just shrugged and said she would accept it because she didn't know what it was. Be a professional, look it up. Ask questions and find out about it. Manager was rude when I asked why she couldn't accept it and just told me she didn't know what it was and shooed me away. Horrible service. This is the best Safeway that I have ever been to! I've lived all over the bay area for the last 15 years, I always shop Safeway, but for Some reason this one just feels like home. Today is a perfect testament to that. I did a pick up and go order and I noticed that a couple bags of stuff was missing. No biggie, I gave them a call we went over the order it was rectified and I came and picked up the missing items. I didn't cause a fuss, I mean accidents happen right? Each person I talk to was super apologetic to where I had to tell them 'it's OK you don't have to say sorry we are human, you know?' Well, I came back to pick up the missing groceries and not only were the substitutions for the things that they didn't have on point, the store manager included a gift card! I just really appreciate that because most companies don't do little things like that when there's been a hiccup unless all hell was raised. The gift card to me and 'said hey we appreciate your business sorry for the mess up'. I'm sure most people would've posted some huge rant on the city's Facebook page and talked so much shit for no reason. I just want everyone to know how great the store is, and not because they gave me an appreciative token (gift card)for a mistake that happened, but the thoughtfulness and acknowledgment behind it. This Safeway just isn't as good as the one across town. It's in a sketchier area, the parking lot SUCKS, the shop layout is significantly inferior, and they don't have stuff that's as good as the other store. I'm not sure why that is. Also, the employees here are very rude. Supposedly it goes all the way up to the management level -- the few people I've known who worked here were very unhappy and quit as soon as they could. read more

First time coming to this location, went to the deli side, food looks fresh!!..they had Boars meats display & had this breakfast burritos, had asked the older woman working there, she was very detailed what was in the burrito, which I thought was very informative...now I go to the bakery, picked up a tray of cupcakes wanted to pay their instead of going in line up front, & this young woman name "Gabbie" told me I have to take it up front cause she has no access to the register??...don't know how to take it that maybe plain laziness or maybe could be true...so I go up to the register, boy this women at the register, older women name Kim, geez talk about bitter!!..just plain not happy, I told her I wanted to use my reward card & she sighed!! This review is for the short haired blondish heavy set older (40-50 maybe) checker, who was on the "15 item or less " stand this morning (1/21/18) at around 8:45 am. She must either be protected by a union, or the managers are blind. She was the most rude employee. She had a disgusted look on her face, she kept yawning out loud, and gave me a dirty look when I said " good morning". If I do go back to this store ( which I may not) and she is the only checker or the one with no line, I will leave my cart and take off. When it comes to customer service, this store has always had its problems, but none I found worth reporting until I went to the so-called "customer service" counter to exchange a $20 bill for two rolls of quarters. At 19:25 US-PDT (UST -07:00) I approached the counter and waited for the lead cashier to come out. She did and then bent down where we could see down her partially unbuttoned blouse and show us her cleavage. That did not help matters much because that was neither the time nor the place for such behavior. And then she gave me a bunch of excuses why she could not exchange my $20 for two rolls of quarters. I told her it was a line of bullshit, then put my $20 back in my wallet, and left with my purchase. Should Safeway want to close this store down, I would definitely be in favor of them doing so. Their pharmacy is inadequate and the location is cluttered, especially its parking lot. I'm usually better off getting into my car and driving to the other store at 4495 First, where they do practice better customer service. read more

I waited at the Floral Dept for 5 minutes with no luck. I asked a produce person to call for help, no luck. I went to a register and the clerk called for a manager, no luck. I went to Customer Service to ask for help, no one is working today. The person working the register tried to get a manager again, no luck again. Once again, I am leaving Safeway because I can't get any help. I have shopped Safeway for 30 years, but I am going to go elsewhere because the lack of customer service is non-existent. It was a Tuesday I wanted to purchase cilantro and couldn't find it. I checked both produce areas including organic section. I asked the produce man. who was an older man with a very heavy eastern accent . He said, "no ck the Organic section"! So I thought maybe I didn't see it so I walked back down from the opposite end and rechecked. There was none. I walked back to the other end and said, "there isn't any". He said, abruptly I go ck. My family has been shopping at this particular store for fifteen years or more. Upper management is typically very... snooty, here, and it changes frequently. I wouldn't count on them for much - you'll know what I mean when you try to talk to a man in a shirt and tie and you just get that *siiigh* how can I help you? look... The Lady managers however, Maureen and Michelle, are AMAZING. You need something, and they are great. It's the Cashiers that are especially nice - they tend to stick around more than the other staff members (the poor courtesy clerks!) and they recognize us. They always seem happy to see us, and are really great!!! Special shoutout to Kimberly, Melissa, Mary (love you sweety!) Stan and Julie! This Safeway pisses me off every time I shop here. If you want a sandwich made at the deli counter, they'll just flat out ignore you and serve the other customers who walked up to the counter after you. Also, when adding coupons to your club card, be sure to wait at least 24 hours, or the sale items will scan at full price. There's also a lot of immigrants that steal donuts and bulk food items and give them to their kids while they shop. read more

This Safeway is convenient and has everything we always need (except for the large items we get at costco). The produce and breads are always fresh and starbucks is really convenient inside too. They even have flowers for the wife! With CVS next door I can get all my errands done in one trip! read more

Zero stars!!! I have given completely up on this store. I already do 90% of my shopping at the Outlet. I really only come here for Diet Coke (which is all my wife will drink). Saw an ad for $4.99 a 24 pack. Min 2 purchased to get that price. Since I planned on buying out the store, that was not a problem. 24 packs can go for as high as $8.00. So when there is a special, I stock up. Problem was I wasn't the only one with that plan. They were completely out. In the past, I have been able to substitute two 12 packs for a 24. I asked if they would make an exception for me to get the 24 pack special price and was told NO!!! We can give you a rain check. OMG! Are you kidding me! All I wanted was to get four 12 packs as if they were two 24 packs to get the special they were advertising. I guess the latest round of management is looking for a promotion to the next REAL Safeway in the chain so they are being super tight with all the rules. The clerk actually said she was sorry she couldn't help me. She knows me as a former regular. I dumped my cart of other groceries and proceeded to the Safeway on the other side of town. They had plenty of 24 packs. I bought 10. Guess it sucks to be the smaller of two stores in the same town. I shop here regularly, and usually everyone is pleasant and friendly. Not today. Cashier doesn't say 2 words ,when I get in line with my partially full cart. I stand there waiting to be told to start putting groceries on conveyer , nothing. So I just start emptying my cart. Finally bag boy asked if I need bags? So they do talk? With my cart now empty, I remember something I forgot to get and ask Josh, the bagger if he could go get it for me. Again no response, he just stares at me . So I go get it myself. When I get back, I thank him for nothing. I ask him for his name, no response. I ask again still nothing. Finally I say I am going to speak to manager, and the cashier tells him to go somewhere, or go take a break, I really didn't catch what she said but he leaves and then cashier tells me his name is josh. Then I go to service and wait for manager who is helping another customer. I then see josh has returned. After 10 minutes I give up and go. Not sure I will ever go back, not that anyone from Safeway cares. read more
