If you can, shop at another store. If you HAVE to shop at this Safeway, be prepared for rude, incompetent employees, tons of out of stock items, long lines, and VERY dirty carts. Every time I go here, I leave upset. I shop the ad because my family is on a very tight budget and the ad items are most often out of stock. Most of the checkers act like you are bothering them when you pull up to their line, and god forbid if you have coupons...you will most likely get an eye roll and a deep sigh. Supposedly this store has a new manager but I haven't seen any improvements. If anything, it is worse! read more

I would give it zero stars if I could. I only go there very early in the morning because of the very poor service. I was waiting in the self check and could not scan an item. no help! it turns out the checker was 5 feet away in the magazine section ignoring me. then she as rude and I left the item there even though I needed it for dinner. I will be driving to Lucky"from now on. read more

Lame lame lame....Slow, almost zombie like, unfriendly cashiers. The fruit and vegetables sit on a grate that may possibly never been cleaned. Watch out for any of the sale stuff in the fruits and vegetables as they are either super unripe or almost rotten. Went there tonight out of shear laziness to get ice cream and eggs and waited in the "fast lane" for 15 minutes while the clerk attempted to cash a check....gave up went to the next one and they closed it in front of me....moved over to the last open checkout only to be the last customer in that line as well. They checked me out and gave me only 3/4 of my groceries. We had to go back to pick them up after realizing our apple juice was missing....lame lame lame read more

This store is so dirty. The conveyer belts are filthy, smells of rotting food, employees are surly. I go here once every 10 years and it still sucks. Never again. read more

I used the coinstar on jan 8 2018 and received a voucher for $28 and change. I returned to the Safeway on the Jan 20 and tried to cash it in and was told that it has to be redeemed the same day. He said to call Coinstar. So I went online, got the number and called. The customer service person at Coinstar said that the voucher is still valid. I asked how do I redeem my voucher at this point. I was advised to return to the store and try again. "If the manager has any concerns he or she can call us at this 800 number." I went back talked to the Safeway customer service person and she said it needed to be redeemed the same day. I said that I spoke with Coinstar and they said it doesn't. Here is the number if you would like to call them to check. She then walked away saying nothing and went to a manager or supervisor on the floor. Some discussion took place and from the head shakes I figured this wasn't going to go in my favor. Sure enough she returned and said "I checked and your wrong it has to be redeemed on the same day." I then suggested that maybe she could pick up the phone and call Coinstar and gave her the number. She then picked up the phone and over the store PA I hear "Kenny to Customer Service" or something like that. When Kenny arrives he gets the story and responds "no this needs to be redeemed the same day". So, I said that it is clear that you and your staff have an understanding of how this coinstar services works that differs from coinstar. Possibly you could pick up the phone and call the coinstar 800 number and educate yourself as I have educated myself and then in your next staff meeting you can educate your employees of how coinstar works. He then took the voucher and scanned it, the register opened and he handed me $28 and change. No more words were spoken by him. But I kindly thanked him for his service and said have a nice day. I would like to think the next person that goes into this Safeway and has a Coinstar voucher that has aged more than a day will not be told that it is no longer valid and to call Coinstar. It's perfectly acceptable to be wrong but when presented with a fact checker, use it. It makes you seem stupid if you don't. Then to not pass the information along to your employees you have completely failed the basics of management. I'm giving 2 stars because I got my money. If I ever run into this situation again, I'm only giving 1 star. read more

Longest lines ever at the worst times. I hate coming here. Seriously it seems ridiculous that they can't get checkers at busy times!

Ordered a half sheet cake on tuesday, I asked the guy that was working if they could do banana, strawberries and raspberry .. he said they couldnt.. that they could only do half banana and half strawberries ? wwhaat?! okay, and then he said he would text the "cake lady" to see if they could, meanwhile we browsed around until the lady replied.. went back to check if she had responded to his text and he said no.. so then I called the next day, a lady answered, not sure if it was the cake lady but she did confirm through the phone to do strawberries, banana & raspberry filling and that it would be 39.99 PLUS $12 for mixing the fruits? so total like $53 , which was okay with me because it was for my sons second birthday. thursday came around and my sons dad picked up the cake. the design was mediocre looking to be honest! AAAANNND ... they didnt even do the right filling! but he ended up paying the 39.99) which was weird because she did tell me the total through the phone ($53).. worse yet, NO BANANA NO STRAWBERRY NO RASPBERRY!!! only the whipped cream... N E V E R A G A I N !!!shame on you bakery department for ruining my sons cake! read more

I am new to Livermore and recently have made several trips to this Safeway. I was astounded at the rude way I have been treated by several employees including once by Tara. Fortunately Lucky, Nob Hill, and Trader Joe's are equally close! read more

Still unbelievable! I will only go into this store when I am late and no other options are open. In the evenings (after, say, 10pm) this place is almost scary. The night stocking crew resembles a street gang. Discourteous, rude, unsanitary are just a few things that describe them. Harry back, tank top dude? That is not an appetizing look for a food service establishment. His appearance would not bother me, after all, it is late night and stocking is hard work, problem is his demeanor matches. Others won't even make eye contact with you as they bump past you, and they have to bump past you because every inch of walking space is clogged with all of the stocking cases for the night, including frozen. Which brings me to the point of this Yelp. I was in the store a few weeks ago around 10:30-11:00pm and saw three pallets of frozen in front of the freezers. This did not, nor should it, strike me as odd, having worked in the grocery business, I know this is SOP and the frozen pallet is fine sitting out for an hour or better. Provided it is intact and wrapped and HAS BEEN PROPERLY HANDLED FROM DELIVERY and not left sitting out in the warehouse for hours, OUT OF OUR SIGHT. However, I will bet HACCP regs. require far less time elapse for frozen foods to sit out. The shock came when Wife needed something around 1:00 am. I knew I should have sucked it up and driven to 7/11 and paid out the @#$ for it, but I walked to Safeway, less than 300 yards from home. When I walked in I was surprised to see the same frozen pallets still sitting on the floor however, now, they were unwrapped, broken down and the individual cases piled up in front of the freezer doors, not put up yet, just sitting out at room temp. This food has now, to my knowledge, been at room temp for at least 3 hours!!! No! I thought, can't be the same product. I walked by it and it was. There has to have been something happen, illness, injury, something for that product they intend to sell to you and I to be mishandled so. I had the chance to observe this time frame again just a few days later and found a stocking clerk working the product just before midnight. Better, but with the amount of cases out, there was no way that it was going to be finished by meal brake. So still, that is still far too long for product to sit out. So, if you have ever wondered why that bag of IQ frozen shrimp you paid $15+ for is clomped together or worse in one solid block, or why that pint of premium ice cream has more ice than cream, now you know. Fact is, it was probably in good condition when the store got it. The stocking crew most likely ruined it for you. Thing is, if they don't care enough to keep your frozen foods frozen, what else are they doing, or not doing, where we can't see them? read more

ZERO STARS!!! The downtown safeway sucks... end of story. I always drive across town to the other one... people are nicer, better stocked, and you get out way faster. I seriously dread going to the other one... especially when I want a sandwich from the deli... they ask you what you want, and then when you tell them they roll there eyes. SO RUDE!!! read more

I had a bad experience their. They need to change their policy on credit cards. Sometimes people cards don't work with their system and now they refuse to swipe them for you. Besides that the checker was rude to me and I don't know if i will go back to that store. I dont mind the other Safeway but its too crowded read more

Worst Safeway I have ever been to. I would give them minus rating if I am allowed. July 27, 2018. First time to feel racism in CA after living there for 20 years. We were in a leisure trip, went to the store at 11pm. We tried to ask about soda and boy, we met the rudest stocker I have met in my life. We had to look for what were looking for before she curse or hit us. Yes it was that bad. Next, Lauren, the cashier. As grumpy as it gets. However she had the case of selective grumpiness, she was politically correct with the person before and after us. We were moving along the line, my wife was pulling the cart while I was paying so we can expedite the process since there were few people in line. Just of the sudden she almost yelled at me asking me to move the cart forward. I answered firmly that my wife is doing just that. Next she asked if we need bags and I answered no thank you. She asked me sarcatically is that a yes or no. What comes next is really funny if it wasn't sad. I asked the bagger to call a manager. Her name I believe was Alissa. Waited for 7 minutes patiently. Only to find that she went home. They grabbed somebody who claims that he is in charge but not a manager. His name was Tony or Joe. He wasn't even interested to hear what I got to say. Usually, as a courtesy they say I am sorry you felt this way. Not akgnoloedging any wrong doing. Not a sorry word from him. Just said that he will let them know in the morning. That was all. The funny thing i found that the headquarters is 10 minutes away from the store. And after reviewing comments on Google, found out that I am not the only one who is treated this way. Will call or go to headquarter tomorrow to see if they even care. read more

This is the most consistently regrettable supermarket experience I've ever had. And since it's closest, that's where the Mr. goes. Almost every trip he comes home with packages that are slashed open. They stop carrying our favorite items all the time, or they just can't be arsed to restock the shelves when they're empty. The hot food is mostly ok (except that one time with the chicken pies that were mouldy on the *inside*), but sometimes just awful. Today he came home with some fried rice from the hot food and it has ham in it. Ham? I could even understand bbq pork (even though either way you've ensured that people like me can't eat it) but ham in fried rice? Gross. Do you even tell them how to make things? Some consistency would be great. There's plenty on the hot bar we don't get anymore because a third of the time it would be overcooked to the point of inedibility. For anyone considering a shopping trip I recommend against this store quite strongly. read more
