The deli lady treated me like I was a criminal for ordering a sandwich. She acted like I was a burden for making her lift a finger. I was trying to be nice and the lady just soaked up that kindness and made me feel like garbage. There was a man there too, that had good customer service. The lady there, that was working with him, had an attitude, like I was making her perform brain surgery. I tried to be positive and even mentioned I worked for Safeway too, but she clearly didn't want to hear anything I had to say. She's getting paid for having a bad attitude. Now I remember why I don't shop here and will drive much further to avoid it. Simple thing, go in get some fruits and veggies and crackers. In, out done. Ambrosia apples are on a "Red Hot Sale" $.49 a pound. Great, I get to try an apple I'm not familiar with for cheap. It rings up as $2.49 a pound. WHAT? Here's where we get to the mixed review. The cashier made it right with no fight, but the attitude was dismissive and borderline rude. I even went back and took a picture of the price tag sign in produce so she could pass it on that the system was not recognizing the correct advertised price plus I didn't want her to think I was trying to pull something. Last time I shopped here I had to go through way too many bags of salad mixes to find ones that were not either expired or really brown. They had a deal for frozen chicken breasts, Caesar dressing and romaine lettuce for 15. I asked the producer guy where the romaine lettuce was and he couldn't even tell me!!!! The fact that they have 1 cashier and another 1 helping the self check area every night between 5-7pm when it's busy from everyone get off work is crazy. The lines are always 5-10 customers long if not more so be prepared to wait at least 20 min to even checkout The food selection has gone downhill. Decent store for its size. The parking lot is good size but driver's beware. Cray Cray Driver's. We come here frequently for Redbox or Starbucks. My Son In Law just got a cashier job at this Safeway. So I would say they have some great employees. I know the current manager is cool. I had an issue with expired beer one time. The manager sent me an e-mail and took care of the situation to my satisfaction. I'm not sure how long I'll live in this area or be shopping at this nice of a store but I hope my new surroundings will be as well stocked. read more

Located across the parking lot from the Oxford Suites Hotel where my daughter and I stayed for the weekend. We stopped in for some snacks for the room and whatever else we could find. It's nice that this Safeway stays open until 1:00 AM but, it would be even better if it were open all night. After normal hours, don't expect to find too much in the way of hot or decent foods. Their Deli and it's selection are poor after hours. With the exception of what they labeled as hot wings, I ended up buying beer, day old red velvet cake and chips & dips. There is a Starbucks located inside this store too. But one would never know by their advertising or where the shop is located within the store. Another day in flora, in the past I've gone into Safeway purchase several bundles of flowers to make a bouquet and was given a cheap vase from back behind the counter. Today I wasn't offered any assistance to put the bundle together with or without a vase or any assistance on choosing any sort of flowers. She did answer my questions about what flowers were what. Did not greet me acknowledge me until I acknowledged her. There was a time where the floral person was super exuberant and over helpful, I not saying this person is not; I just didn't get that experience. read more

Just submitted this review to Safeway's website. Figured I'd add it here, too. Susan is the BEST! Oh my goodness, I don't even know where to begin! Safeway is my neighborhood store and the employees there have always been so great. My neighbors and family have our favorite Safeway and other local business employees that we list off and compare when we are otherwise griping about the rising cost of groceries and all other basic living expenses. Yesterday I went to the store with $85 cash, and just $5 in my bank account. I ran through my list in the app to make sure I wasn't going over that $85 and set to shopping, of course grabbing a couple extra items like beer, cookies and candy, thinking I'd have enough. As we got down to the last two items on the conveyor belt, I realized I overspent. Usually I don't have a budget for groceries, as I have a lot more leeway with my income, however I've been out on unpaid medical leave for a bit and my last paycheck was only 20% of what I usually get paid, leaving me in that awkward moment of "What items do I need to put back? Are they already bagged and sitting in my cart? I hope I'm not going to hold up this line for too long, and I don't want to inconvenience the checker. Also, I'm kinda stupid for adding those couple of non-essential items when I have no extra money this week! Dammit!" Susan was checking my groceries. She has always been a friendly face to see and I mentioned to her that I may have to put a few items back. Oops! She asked if I was using the app to price things out, so clearly I'm not the only customer to have done this. Susan and the gentleman bagging the groceries both helped me into the Safeway app, shows me how to clip all of the items, and then update it to get the discounts. It took a moment, but Susan directed the gentleman waiting behind me over to an empty register so he didn't have to wait. She directed the entire moment with such ease, displaying an amount of kindness, warmth, optimism and situational awareness that not many folks are capable of. Thanks to Susan and her coworker (who also deserves recognition), I checked out just $0.36 under my budget, saving over $14, allowing me to enjoy those non-essentials and gain a lesson in how to properly navigate the not-so-user-friendly Safeway App. Safeway may be a large company--heck, the person reading this right now is probably in another state!--but the employees here at this Gladstone location really make it feel like a sweet little neighborhood store. As a side note, I somehow locked the keys of my rental car (a drunk dude rear ended me a while back and my poor car is in the shop) inside the car with my purse, phone and half my groceries. Thankfully a friend was also getting groceries, so I borrowed her phone for a moment to call Enterprise Car Rental. They gave the exact opposite customer experience, and left me with "Well, since you don't have the rental agreement number, we can't dispatch roadside assistance. Good luck!" It left me in a brief moment of tears before I called another friend who eventually showed an hour later to help me get back in my car and rescue the fast-wilting cilantro sitting in the sunny spot on my passenger seat. While I was waiting for rescue, I used the restroom inside and caught Susan's eye at the front doors. I walked over and shared with her my new predicament, trying to laugh off the stress of it all. She immediately jumped into action, had a plan, and was ready to lend me her phone to call Enterprise back and get them to come help me. I didn't take her up on this very generous offer, as help was on the way and I really didn't want to become someone else's problem--just a quick ear to share my unfortunate circumstance with. But her display of complete selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond, not as a Safeway employee, but as a neighbor, community member, stranger, and human. Y'all should consider yourselves blessed to find so many good people to work for your company. You should do everything in your power to keep Susan and her wonderful coworkers happy and satisfied with their employment. They are the heart and soul of your big, fancy company and the only reason I choose to shop at Safeway. Oh, and the cilantro and I both safely made it home. As it perked up in a glass of water in my fridge, I cracked open a not-so-cold-anymore beer and toasted Susan. To you, Susan! Cheers! read more

I am ill with covid. I needed food. On 2/25 I made an online order for delivery before 10 in the morning. It had not arrived by the time it was supposed to, 5-9 in the evening. At 9:15 I called and SAFEWAY had cancelled my order without ever informing me. I could not leave my house I was so sick so I had a packet of ramen instead of the large amount of food I ordered. I was told the store couldn't deliver because weather made the roads too bad. I live four blocks from the store. I can see out the window the roads are fine and it's 45F. Safeway lied. Now I know why people go out in public even when they know they have covid. Because places like Safeway does not care to help. read more

Ended up leaving the store. I love that they have gone to one way lanes with directional arrows about every ten feet. Sadly some customers ignore them. But the reason I walked out today was employees were also ignoring the arrows and going down up lanes. Sorry I expect employees to comply and set an example. This review is mainly for the Starbucks staff in this store. The times I have been in, the "baristas" (if you wanna call them that!) are either rude or totally ignore you. I waited in line for over 10 minutes recently because the two young female employees were joking around and looking at pics on each others phones. Not kidding. I waved the nearby store cashier towards me to find out what I could do about what was happening and she ignored me. So this used to be a decent store with nice employees that were conversational in nature. Today while buying 2 rockstars at the counter, I was charged the deposit on them. So I asked my cashier, Valera, 'what's up with the $.20?' To which she coldly responded, 'it's a deposit' knowing I don't pay deposit on them near my house, I responded I don't pay for deposit at home to which she responded rudely, 'it's always been $.10/can since it came out...'. knowing deposits were $.05 up until recently I looked it up for the rude lady: Yahoo says their are two types of can rockstar uses. This store is miserable. I've been here a handful of times to buy groceries and *EVERY SINGLE TIME* I leave angry, frustrated. I live close, so it is convenient, and close to the freeway. Now, I'm not a family man. I usually spend around $30 when I go grocery shopping. The bare essentials, no need for huge things like TP and paper towels every time I go, so it's usually in a basket. Being pretty thin makes it pretty crummy to hold on to a basket with 25 lbs of groceries in it, having to wait in a long line that extends into an aisle. Do you know how degrading it is to set a basket on the ground because someone four customers in front of you is paying with a damn check and you don't want to wait!?! If you have a self checkout, or more checkers it will greatly alleviate my frustration. The only reason this store got two stars-- They open up the service counter to people that are buying items that don't have to be weighed (i.e. no produce). That has given us the easy pass a couple of times. The employees know there is an issue with this an are sympathetic. The management and brass are ignorant. Issue two: "Attention service Desk: Two. Zero. One.". A employee explained to my inquiry about this strange, constant, annoying robo-page that it is the method certain departments know they have a phone call. I don't give a crap if the service counter has a phone call. Isn't that why phones ring, to alert the person that there is an incoming call? Whatever numbskull at corporate decided that this was better than having a phone ring at the department being called should be fired. This is all Safeway corporate stores, apparently. After Googling the quote, I'm not the only one perturbed. All in all. I want to relax when I am shopping. Muzak is okay, because it can be ignored. When you're waiting in line with a cramped wrist and every 15 seconds "Attention Service Desk. Two. Zero. One." comes on the loud speaker, it makes for a memorable non-pleasurable experience. read more

Oui...where to start. Despite a 'remodel' the store still feels old and shabby. It is fine for the basics, but it is small so it is limited. For example they have Top Ramen. They do not carry the Maruchan Ramen though. Just an example...they may have the item you're looking for just not the brand you are used to having. They get 2 stars for the basics. They lose stars for pathetic meat department (no meat counter, and selection is very limited), generally mediocre to poor produce, and bad service. The checkers are fine, pleasant and do their job. Management apparently feels like long lines give people more time to impulse buy, cause they always seem to be short handed I shop here cause it is close, but I take my big shopping trips,(ie weekly meat and produce) elsewhere. If you can't afford to have more than two check out lanes open during the evening rush do everyone a favor and obtain the awful self check outs to at least please customers. This isn't s one time complaint this has happened 6+ times where I'll leave a full cart or basket due to lines being down the isle. Do yourself a favor and takes extra five minute drive to the Webster/ theissen store! This store straight up sucks especially since the isles are 2' too narrow for how busy it is. read more

This Safeway is less than a mile from my house yet I drive out of my way to shop elsewhere most of the time. There is rarely more than one check out line open. If I go in for my big weekly shopping trips I almost always have to use the express line as it is the only one open and I feel like an ASS while the line of people holding two or three items piles up behind me (I can only let so many people go ahead of me). All the employees are friendly. I enjoy going here off hours or just to grab a few items. Just wish they staffed more people. Not to any fault of the store but this is NOT the place to go during the summer. This Safeway is okay, but is not on the top of my list. Instead of a bakery, there's a doughnut case and some tables with baked goods. The only reason I don't like that is because there's no fresh-baked foods. Other than that, though, I like this store. The service in the meat department is fast, and the people working there are always happy to get you seafood, beef, and pork. The produce department includes over 120 different types of fruits and veggies for sale. Last of all, the parking lot is mostly used by Safeway customers, meaning it has more extra space. read more

Absolute worst pharmacist ever!!! I have a broken back and have been getting strong medicines since 2000. I had 3 scrips filled today, one was for 8 sleeping pills. I could see thru the bottle and only counted 7. Bringing this up to the pharmacist, he took the bottle, counted 7 pills and said well there was 8 it was double counted ( by him of course) I did not leave or go anywhere else so how did the pill get out? it was never in there!!! he looked at me like I took it and wanted another one. He said when he had time he would call the doctor and see if I could have an extra one. I said I do not want an extra one I wanted what the scrip said I could have. He was very condescending and extremely rude. Unless it is absolutely necessary to go to this pharmacy I highly suggest you go somewhere else. I will never go back to this pharmacy again. read more

Like any other Safeway, this place is dreary, poorly lit, understaffed, and overpriced. Its redeeming qualities are in the fact that it's near my work and open late, so midnight post-shift grocery runs are made possible when the Fred Meyer up an exit is closed. And Danè, one of the night shift managers, is always a pleasure to be rung up by for his friendliness and commitment to customer service. Otherwise, expect long lines, slow and limited checkouts (only a third are open, at most, during peak times), fair-to-poor produce, and slim selections to be the norm. read more

Go elsewhere if you want to have your prescriptions filled. If you call them and ask them questions over the phone the pharmacist will tell you exactly what you want to hear but then when you go in to have it done they will tell you "We can't do that". After a week long battle with these guys and my prior prescription filler, I wanted to have my prescription returned to my previous filler so I could have it mail ordered to myself every 3 months rather than have to go into the store every month, not to mention I didn't need it transferred in the first place but Safeway pretty much told me whatever they could to keep my business. I called the pharmacy at Safeway five days beforehand to make sure they would be able to transfer the prescription back when I went in to pick it up. They told me that would be fine and to just let them know about the transfer when I came in. Today I went in and asked them to transfer. The girl promptly told me they couldn't transfer and that my prior prescription filler would have to call and request it themselves. Are you kidding me? I had spent three hours on the phone last week with this mess and NOW they are telling me they can't do it? I insisted the girl take my information and find out about it, where she then told me it would take a few days as the pharmacist was not in. Why is there no pharmacist there? Why would you have your pharmacy open with no pharmacist? Idiotic. I was fuming and so angry I left and drove 15 minutes down the road to shop at the Fred Meyer than give these guys my business. Later I called and complained to the management, then again to their corporate office so we'll see if anything gets done. At this point they are almost forcing me to use their pharmacy. Forget that, I'd rather go back to my doctor and pay for another visit then EVER give this store my business again. read more

I just moved to the area. The staff at this Safeway is friendly and welcoming. The lines are never too long and the store is clean and well stocked. The deli is clean and the deli staff are pleasant. Fortunately for me my husband did most of the grocery shopping for years, but now that I am back doing the shopping I notice how much this store has declined. As everyone else says they never have enough checkers. I almost laugh when they call for all help up front knowing there isn't anyone in the store. I also rarely see any baggers or carry out people. I am presuming that management could care less about customer service at this store. Additionally because they have no help you have to look at the pull dates on every perishable item. Safeway you need to get a new insurance company! After a horrible experience at one of your stores (which was apologized for) I was sent to deal with Ryan at Sedgwick. If I could give Sedgwick 0 stars I would. They are not looking out for your best interest. They should be doing the right thing in representing you, but they are not. I have never had anything like this happen to me before. I get you must protect yourselves from scams, but in this instant and I am sure many others it is not a scam. I only want you to do the right thing. After spending my summer months in a knee brace unable to join in in our family events and vacations and several months before and after in pain. You claim agent Ryan thinks that he should pay a minimal amount to cover my medical bills which I have to pay myself. It is not about the money for me it is principal. If it was about money I would have already gotten a lawyer. I manage a customer service team and feel that it is always important to take care of the customer. I continue to give this store a chance. It is super close to home and definitely convenient but they just continue to let me down. Today I went in to grab a few things. No lines which was great but the sour grapes that helped me, Valere could not be bothered to say hello, make any conversation what so ever. I even said how is your day, she said "fine". Then just stood there while I bagged my groceries. She seemed impatient for me to put in my club card so I made her wait until I finished bagging my food. We all work hard for our money and I have lived and shopped here for 20 years. She has helped me at least 2 dozen times.
