Good location, right off the freeway. The pumps can get busy so you may have to wait at peak hours but not for long.
It is clean and I have never seen any creepy people panhandling there which is a pleasant contrast to the arco gas station in Fairfield that I frequently go to. The staff is friendly.
You don't get a discount for using your Safeway club card. Only every 100 Dollars you spend you get a gas reward which equals 10 cents per gallon. However, they expire about every other month so that this is only attractive if you go here quite often.
I used to like this gas station because it used to have competitive prices. It would be just a little more expensive than my usual alternatives (including the creepy arco in Fairfield). However, at those alternatives I would have to pay cash to get the good price. Now I just recently noticed that really the same is true for this gas station:
THE ADVERTISED PRICE ON THE LARGE SIGN IS FOR CASH ONLY. CREDIT CARD USERS PAY 10CENTS/GALLON MORE.
I think this is a recent development and it irritates me that there is no announcement or even a sign at the pump to let me know I will pay more if I use my credit card. I just noticed a the pump that the gas price was 10 cents more than advertised on the large sign. I thought that they just hadn't updated their sign but really it's because the sign displays the cash only price.
I understand that credit card companies charge the business a lot and therefore the business needs a way to encourage customers to pay cash. But I feel betrayed that they don't mark that more clearly.
Therefore I won't go here any more. Paying with my credit card I pay more here than at Chevron. Paying cash I pay more here than at arco. It is a nice gas station but so is Chevron.
Update on 5/11/2013: I read that several Dixon gas stations had sued Safeway because they claim Safeway gas stations are too cheap and ruining their business. Maybe that is why the Safeway gas stations are getting more expensive by introducing a higher credit card price. Still, I am upset with Safeway for doing that the way they did: not clearly pointing out to customers that the advertised price is for cash only, particularly since it used to be the same price for credit cards and cash, from what I understand.
As far as the other Dixon gas station goes: I don't think that all people that used to get gas at the Dixon Safeway will go to a different gas station in Dixon once the Safeway gas station prices have increased. Most Safeway gas station customers don't live in Dixon, they just pass Dixon and get the gas at the cheapest gas station along their commute or trip. They might as well get gas in Fairfield, Vacaville, Davis or Sacramento, depending on where it is cheapest. Personally, I have no intention of getting gas at any Dixon gas station other than the Safeway one. But with the increased prices and the sneaky way the introduced an extra charge for credit card use I will probably end up getting gas in Fairfield or Davis, at arco or Chevron where the gas is either cheaper or has no extra fee for credit card use. read more
