This review is for all of Safeway and Save Mart brands. I won't be back. The service I've received around them giving my delivery order to a random DoorDash Driver has been ATROCIOUS. The real DoorDash Driver comes to get my items and they told him they weren't reshopping anything but no one bothered to call me. Today, I was purposely hung up via chat 3 times and the manager call I requested was ignored. I've used Safeway's Drive-Up & Go pickup service several times now, and after today, I'm officially done with it. This is the third time I've placed a grocery pickup order where the produce was thrown loosely into a bag with no produce bags at all. Today's order included tomatoes, a head of lettuce, apples, oranges, and garlic -- all in the same bag, loose, rolling around. Not only can apples bruise, but nobody wants apples that smell like garlic. It's basic food handling. They also tossed in sweet potatoes with no produce bag, and everything just felt careless. It makes me question how clean the produce really stayed during the process. It's frustrating because Safeway markets this as a convenient service, but if the food is handled like this, what's the point? At this stage, I'd rather pay Instacart's extra fees. Their shoppers actually take care with bagging and separating items. I wish Safeway took the same pride in the pickup service. After multiple issues, I won't be using Drive-Up & Go again at this location. read more

Early morning came to the deli and there is no one there, I asked the people making sushi if someone is working the deli today. To improve the experience shopping here, I would suggest one thing. The seafood section. I have purchased fish here twice and there will not be a third time. I was sold old fish that stunk up my house when I opened the package. Also went to check out the shrimp. I went to pick up a package and it stunk up my hands so bad that I had to wash them 5 times to even slightly remove the odor. Updating my review: The store has improved security (gated entry and exit) and there are no more random people with pet animals in the store! Yay!! I still prefer to order ahead since their online ordering team is awesome! The cashiers in the store are also very friendly and help navigate the security enhancements. 2+ years later, grocery service still is disappointing! For grocery pickup, make sure you don't miss picking up your order because they do noy automatically cancel the order and issue refund. I missed picking up my order on January 3rd and until now no refund. I submitted refund request on January 18th and it's now the 25th, still no refund! I followed up with complain on their Contact Us page on January 19th and got an email response that they've escalated the request. I followed up yesterday and got response this morning and they confirmed they did sent for escalation but gave me January 29th ETA. So it's the day after Thanksgiving and I know working during holidays is a lot! I went to the part where the liquor is to check out with wine and get cash back. Veronica didn't ask for my ID because I told her my birthday no biggie. Well she didn't have enough cash and took me to a regular register. Here we met Pam, now she was helping another woman(black lady and I'm black) seemed confusing and stressful. We went over and she didn't say hold on or give me a second so I already knew this was going to be a problem. She starts scanning and says let me see your id(now I'm young looking but I'm not I'm 44) I say my beeday out loud and she's like I need to see your id, I take it out and hold it(I never let people hold my ID(gems) she's like I'm blind in one eye and I'm like okay don't hold my id. She stop ringing me up and says let me get somebody to help you. Manager comes over looks at my id(without touching) and rings me up. No problems! On the day of pickup the bakery called me at 6am to let me know the image machine broke down a few days ago and could not do birthday cake with photo image. I said why didn't you call me when the machine broke down a few days ago! Why are u calling me the day of ?!!!! I could of ordered the cake from a different safeway. So upset and furious!!! If I could give it 0 stars I would. I've always shopped at Safeway. I'm not one to leave reviews, especially negative ones. I am a Fresh Pass member that I PAY monthly for. I've used the delivery option 4 times. The first time was a nightmare. Things were smashed. Who puts a watermelon on bread? The 2 following times were better. Tonight is a joke. I placed my order a little after 5p for a 7-9p arrival. WHERE IS MY ORDER? Because I dont have it. It didn't start shopping until almost 9 after I called the customer service number. After I was given the runaround. After I was told they were short staffed. You're a major business. Plan better. I asked the chat service to be compensated and they said theres nothing to be done. The person in charge of this service was even less help. They're quick to take money, raise prices but they're service and customer service leaves so much to be desired. Never again. As you can see in the photos: the bread was soaked with mayonnaise, overly greased from the artichokes oil, which made the bread so soggy as if I was eating nasty bread pudding texture. This place is just getting worse and worse. I am just adding a warning that at night, it can be dangerous. I rarely go here at night, but when I went last week, there are people just loitering in the front and the parking lot that are sketchy. Inside really is no better- and alarms going off quite frequently as people run out with carts full of food. I had a young girl in front of me in the seafood line that cleaned out ALL the snow crabs/King crabs at 44.+/ lb, two types of shrimp and the Dungeness crab(25./lb) and a few lobster. Soon after she ordered all that, she left and the alarms went off again....hmmm...that was a few hundred in seafood alone. She had two other gals with full carts with her and her cart was full as well. Anyway, just be careful! Usually I go to the Brentwood Safeway-bigger, cleaner, the food at the deli looks better especially the wings. The Antioch Safeway the workers look frustrated and exhausted and long lines form at the deli and seafood and only 1 person and no one to help. This store is clean but there is always something negative about the experience. They never have more than 1 or 2 check stands open. I think they want more people to use self checkout but that isn't always possible if you have more than 15 items or alcohol. Also this is a buyer beware store. On different occasions I've purchased items that were almost or had expired. They don't seem to change out or check dates often. It's the closest grocery store to my house but I usually only end up here as a last resort because.... a) what happened to all the carts?? b) many products that I buy regularly are not in stock OR the expiration dates have passed. c) Produce is NOT fresh and fruit flys everywhere. d) Today I tried to get a package of fresh tortelini and it was spoiled. e) People bring dogs into the store and no one says anything - isn't that illegal? f) I don' t feel safe in the parking lot when it's dark. I end up driving to Brentwood where the Safeways seem to be cleaner, better selection of produce, products fully stocked (not expired), and THEY HAVE CARTS. Two weeks ago I happened to be in Concord and stopped at the Safeway there. It was immaculate - Disneyland compared to the Safeway on Deer Valley! How is it that some Safeways within a couple miles of each other have such different quality?
