Cardenas is a wonderful find as someone who recently moved to the east bay. On my way home from work, I've stopped in the food court several times for dinner. They have so many options! My favorite so far are the chiles rellenos and the plátanos fritos with beans. Their carniceria has many options and very fresh meats and cheeses. Their meats section has so many different meat that looks so clean and organized! And their bakery section has a lot of assorted cakes, pastries and breads. They also have hot foods! My mom wanted their flan after my mother-in-law gave us one from here before. It's a big traditional Mexican flan and it's delicious. The decor is very cute, their meat & produce selections are extensive, and there's lots of fresh made pan dulce and other bakery items to choose from. They also have a tortilleria with a worker busy making fresh tortillas. Hot food cocina includes tacos, burritos, soups & stews, bbq chicken, combo plates, beans, rice, tamales. My mom ordered pork ribs (salty but flavorful) and caldo de res (she said it was bland.) There's a counter with vats of aguas frescas being served to order. Upon arrival, I was excited to try their food. I was not sure on what I was going to get until I made up my mind when I seen the menu. The food looked good, and there were lots of people in line as well to get their dinner. I had made up my mind and got the chicken combo. It was said that it would have three pieces of chicken with rice and beans, as well as my drink and some tortillas on the side. I had opened up my food and boom. I only had two pieces of chicken but they were big quarter leg pieces so that makes up for it. The chicken was tough, but had flavor. I struggled eating it & I'm usually a good eater. The rice was lacking flavor, and oddly had corn, peas, and carrots & the peas were hard. The beans were also a bit watery & weirdly a bit sour. They have great prices so I will actually be back and try something else, hopefully it comes out better than this! read more

I have lived in Pittsburg for over 50 years and I love the people. We have different nationalities and personalities but for the most part I think we get along well. However every time I've gone into this store I have encountered rude, dismissive and racists treatment. I usually great people with a smile and a hello, but these employees act like you don't exist. I'm a child of the sixties so if I'm not getting treated with the same respect I give you. Why would I come back and give you my hard earned cash that supports you and your racism. This place has horrible service. They are super rude. Their food sucks. I go in there every day unfortunately because it's the most decent place where you can find decent food similar to Mexico, well let nowhere near but similar at least I walk in there with a good morning salute and great vibe and nobody says it back, so they kill my vibe I'm always smiling and super polite. When I salute them even though I repeat my salute like several times they just be like " what u want literally with a horrible attitude like if you were gonna ask for something for free. I've never shopped there before so I decided to try it. The corn tortillas are warm and perfect and the homemade guacamole and pico de gallo such a time saver. I've since tried calling back at least 8 times with no answer. A simple No, sorry we don't do that would have been acceptable. I'm not pushy or demanding. But to hang up mid sentence is just unprofessional and rude. Being an adult in a leadership role should come with a basic level of communication skills. Ah yes, Cardenas Markets. I remembered coming here when it was Mi Pueblo. Prior to this, it was an Albertsons (remember Albertsons?). Mexican Supermarkets are an adventure, because you get your usual goods there, but you are also treated with onsite butchers, bakers, and fresh food. I don't think any supermarket I went to has that. You can also get things you can never find at other supermarkets, like Augua Frescas, fresh made Salsas and Guac, and imported goods. Like today, I noticed a Spanish magazine which I have never seen before, so curitosty got the better of me and I picked it up. What I like about this place is the Fresh Food counter. You can pick up things like Burritos, Tacos, Tamales, and so much more; today, I picked up Pizole for my mom (who was recovering from a cold), and while I never ate the Pizole, she said it was delicious. The workers there know what I was saying; as someone who is not a Spanish speaker (I really need to learn Spanish), I was pleasantly surprised to see someone who understood what I was saying. That doesn't happen often at other places I have went to. The downside is that most of the prices are high compared to other places. I paid $35 for food at the fresh food counter (3 Pizoles and a Burrito), and I paid $67 at the regular checkout for other items I needed. And while I did expect the prices to be different, I did not expect them to be high. But you get what you pay for. If you are in the area, I would recommend checking out this place, as it has everything you are looking for, plus things you can never find at other places. It's a unique experience. P.S. didn't there used to be a second Meat/Seafood counter or something? I do recall seeing one but it got removed since I last saw it. read more

I absolutely love this Cardenas!! I've been to other Cardenas but they are not like this one! They have great deals and have hot food ready to go, which I love about this super market. They have fresh aqua Fresca in a pitcher with their name on it with different flavors. I absolutely love that because you get to keep the pitcher and you can reuse it for anything! They have variety in alcohol too so whenever you are going to a party you can stop and get your drink here. If I could give this store a negative star for service believe me I would. So first and foremost let's start with the place as you drive in the place outside looks like it needs to be cleaned out and more modernized. When going inside the place looks clean for how trashy it looks on the outside. We decided to get a taco from the already hot food place the taco I ordered was alpastor which is adobo sauce with meat. It was very dry and tasted like chorizo which was not good at all. We then decided to go get our groceries which included 5 pounds of carne asada meat. 10 pounds of boneless chicken breast and 1 pound of beef meat. As we approached the cheese area we ordered 2 pounds of bucket cheese 1 pound of Central American cream and 1 pound of requeson. Over all the price for all we got was $136 which was not at all expensive. We decided to check out at self check out since line was hecka long one big store with lots of registers but only one register open. This is where s*** hits the fan we notice that the self check out was only able to do 15 items so we decided to do this in two split transactions. We decided to do food first then none edible stuff in the next transaction as we finished with the first transaction we were putting the rest of the stuff in the cart mind you we did not purchase any bags since we had bags in the car. So you can see what we had bought we weren't trying to hide anything nor make it seem like we where trying to steal anything obviously we had money for all this transaction. Well this rude lady that was working self check out approached us in this rude manner saying "are you going to pay for that" I looked at her like winch do you see me walking out the door with this do you see me leaving the last point of purchase? I said yeah we are but I'm not done with my first transaction. She decided to still hang out next to my family assuming we were not going to pay for 2 brooms and a container for jalapeños. Like really lady the brooms are only $12 and the container is only $9 I also got a cup of shrimp cocktail and limes. I then said to myself "if I wanted to steal don't you thing I would have got for the liquor or higher priced meat?" When we where finally done with the last transaction I paid $42 this lady would not back off from us my wife finally said I'm going to tell this winch off if she don't back off. I said to her wait don't worry I got this I told this lady in Spanish "want to check my stuff since you are all up in my business" she said no it's okay I then said now you want to act like you did nothing first of all you accused me of trying to steal from this store when you know we'll that I was not done ringing up my stuff second you stood so darn close to us that you almost could kiss my wife's neck nah you wanted to run your mouth now check my stuff! She said I just needed to know you you where going to pay for those items I said to her first of all out of all people in self check out somehow you had an issue with us like what?? She decided to run her mouth at my wife so my wife had to check her and tell her to know her place. Like first of all if anybody knows retail and loss prevention they know that a person has 3 points of purchase 1) selecting item 2) paying for item 3) walking out the door We were in step 2 paying for items not once's did we say f this and let's not pay for brooms like who says that? To be honest I've never been so humiliated in my life coming to a Latino store me being Latina and being harassed this way by what I assumed was a Latina was not something I was expecting not only that but the audacity of this darn lady. As I was walking out I was trying my hardest not to swing or get into this lady's face she ran her mouth so much she almost got knocked out. This store should really talk to their employees and inform them don't accuse anybody of stealing if you suspect something talk to your paid security officer don't take it upon yourself you might end up looking stupid like this lady did. Sorry not sorry but I won't be shopping at Cardenas anymore. It's because of the same Raza that give us Latinos. read more

Today just proved to me that even though you are supporting POC, they still will treat you less than because you are African American. I come to this store often and I normally feel uncomfortable from the staff who can either be rude or nice depends on who you get which is normal service now a days wherever you go. Today I came in for there hot food station, the nice lady who helped me get what I needed was extremely helpful and sweet. But once I got to the register there was no one their to complete my payment. The young lady with blonde hair (ponytail) was the one who was assigned to work the register she walks pass me to fill up the drink station, I completely understand she had another task to do... But when the workers let her know I was ready to check out she said just a few minutes ok... I told myself just to simply walk away and see if she helps the other people behind me instead.. and guess what as soon as I started walking out the store she watched me and started walking over to help the other guest. At the moment I felt disrespected and felt like I wasn't being serviced simply because I was black. This is not the first time this has happened at this store but I wanted to give them another chance but I will no longer do that. This is just my warning to others who may feel this way and continue to support a prejudice establishment. Thought i would stop by quickly to buy Mexican bread and possibly pick up food to go. Well i picked a wrong day or afternoon. Not very many workers. Two registers open only and the lines for each were all the way back down the isles! It took 20 min just to get carne asada at the butcher section. No bread left of my choice in the bakery. Was going to get fresh cheese but that was another line. Looking at the prices i would rather go to one of the smaller neighborhood mexican markets and give them my business. The gal at the register was not friendly at all. Tried to make a conversation she did not even answer me. It took 35 min to pay at a register! Let's see how the meat is! The women who work there were busy chatting and all three were apparently busy helping someone get a balloon. I couldn't check out and asked for help. One came over and quickly walked away. I still needed help, all too busy to bother to assist. I walked out. They didn't even notice. The only people to notice were the other people trying to self check out who were also struggling. The food has gone downhill over the years. It used to be great but I just went this past weekend and the burrito size was absurd. The portions were so small that it was mostly just tortilla with barely any fillings. The chicken and rice were also extremely dry and tasted like they were a few days old. Was there today 4/29/23 at 10:30am for breakfast. Two people were ahead of me and the cashier ( a very heavy set fair skin employee ) was chatting with other co workers while ignoring the customers for a long time. It looked like a company picnic. I asked the employees if they can end their conversation and attend us customers because I have to go see my mom at the hospital. One of the employees an extremely overweight person name Dolores snapped at Me and told me she was on break and needed to eat . I told her you and your co workers should know better and stop holding up the line . She was probably on break but the cashier and the the 4 employees were not and they just were chatting with each other like the customers didn't exist. I stopped going to Cardenas due to the bad service and rude employees but now I will definitely never go. read more

We were super excited when we found the Disney Princess Rapunzul cake when looking through the cake book.They didn't have a Rapunzul Barbie so we had them use another Barbie and keep the same dress. ($39.99 for the cake $5 for added banana,$5 for added strawberry )When ordering here you have to pay upfront.When we picked up the cake it looked great.The problems occurred after we sang and cut the cake. The filling was peaches and strawberry.My daughter does not like peaches and wouldn't eat it. When I called Cardenas to talk to the manager he hung up on me twice.Needless to say I was calm and just explaining to him what happened.The third time a spoke to someone in bakery he said I would have to come bring the cake and the receipt and see what the manager says.
