I am so not happy. I am dealing with a defect in the windshield. The day before replacement installation I get a phone call the day after I called. Then the person tells me normally we wait 8-15 days for the windshield glue to dry. I wish I would have known sooner that I would have to wait longer to enjoy my new car. I even talked to the Corporate Office and it was not mentioned. Now I have a replacement windshield being installed on this coming Friday. read more

Terrible experience. They had quote for my appointment for windshield replacement on their website, with an upcharge for OEM glass which is what I wanted. When I showed up and took off work to do so, they said they made a mistake and that the cost for OEM glass wasn't the $80 they had quoted, but it was actually a $700 upcharge. They flat out said that they messed up, and were unapologetic about it. The manager wouldn't even take the time to come and talk to me, and stayed in her back room. I would NOT recommend this business after my experience with Safelite. First, they show up with a cracked windshield that was going to be installed had I not spoken up and declined the service. Picture is attached. Then I go thru hoops to finally get someone on the line, and they schedule me again 3 days later. Mind you this is an OEM windshield that cost me $700 out of pocket.. Now comes the best part. 2nd attempt:They show up 1 hr 40min PAST the time frame provided without bothering to contact me, and what do they have? The exact same CRACKED windshield! This is now two days I've taken off work to get this windshield replaced and they showed up twice with a cracked windshield. I was very understanding the first time as I know things happen, but twice? And when I finally get into contact with the manager Cory (he would never answer) he was not apologetic at all and didn't want to compensate me with a discount for my trouble! I had to argue to get $45 off which is nothing for the time they wasted. In the end I canceled after speaking with the manager- I didn't want to give my money to this company and found a way better and even cheaper option with the Glass Doctor in San Carlos. Customer service goes a long way with me, and the manager Cory should consider how he handles issues like these in the future and offer an apology and discount whenever someone's time is wasted twice- especially when the person was very understanding! read more

So many commercials about how fast and reliable Safelite is but it couldn't be further from the truth. Made an appointment for 12pm, was told it would take about an hour. Called 2 hours later and was told they haven't started on the window yet. Provided no ETA but was told if we don't hear from Safelite by 4:30pm, we should just go pick up our car . Got a text at 3:30pm saying they started working on the window. No word from them at all so at 4:30pm we just went to get our car. Husband drove the car home but the next day I drove the car and noticed the two side edges of the windshield were warped and wavy as if you were underwater looking out. SO, they either knew the windshield was defective and put it on our car anyway or the tech who installed it did not actually test the window after installation. Called Safelite and got a pleasant rep (main hotline, not SM shop) who helped us schedule a "warranty" appointment. The night before our appointment I received an email saying our appointment was cancelled and to reschedule if we want. No explanation as to why it was cancelled. Called Safelite again and was told the new windshield did not arrive yet. Made another appointment. The day before our appointment I called Safelite again to confirm the appointment is still on and the windshield has arrived. Spoke to a rude lady who couldn't be bothered and kept cutting me off. After asking her to confirm the windshield is definitely at the shop she responded with "yup. Part is there." I say great, thank you. She responds with "mm hmm bye" before I could say anything else. I will be sure to go to a local glass shop in the future and not these chain shops who can care less about you or your time. read more

Last time I had a windshield replacement they came out to me but this car needed to go to the shop. They have a small waiting area with water and coffee and daytime tv on. This is a classic bait and switch sales tactic where they tie you up a few days and then change the terms to absolve themselves of responsibility when people are in need of help. One of the most unprofessional places I have ever spoke to. Where to start, I had booked my appointment over a week ago. They waited until an hour before to call me to tell my I need to bring my car into the shop. A non starter for me, as I had already made plans for the car to be repaired at my house. They could have contacted me at any point during the week to tell me about the issue but instead waited an hour before! When I spoke with the manager she was unapologetic about their mistake. When I asked her direct and pointed questions trying to understand how they made such a massive mistake and she casually dismiss my frustrations. Instead she said I need to work with a new location because she didn't like my tone. What do you mean didn't like my tone, I'm asking you direct questions because you decided in your unprofessional state to wait an hour before my appointment to contact me about a problem that you've known about for over a week. It is your job to be dealing with customers, especially angry and annoyed customers when situations like this arise. This woman should be fired!! She should in no way shape or form should be a manager of a location and treat customers the way that she treated me. I plan to speak directly to the stores general manager to voice my concerns and plan to send a message directly to corporate headquarters. It is incredibly inappropriate to ever treat customers the way that this shop treats theirs. How they stay in business is fascinating. read more

I hoped my experience was an exception, but after reading other Yelp reviews, it seems I should have checked here before choosing Safelite AutoGlass of San Mateo. My rear window had significant scratches that couldn't be repaired, so I made an appointment for a replacement. A young technician arrived at my home and confirmed that the OEM glass I purchased was the correct fit. He began working, but about 20 minutes later, he called me outside to explain that he wasn't completely confident handling the electrical components and suggested I bring the car into the shop so his manager or supervisor could assist. Given that my vehicle is fairly uncommon and costly to fix if mistakes are made, I genuinely appreciated his honesty. I believe in doing things right the first time, including knowing when to ask for help. Later that day, I went to the shop. After about two hours, with the manager/supervisor assisting, they replaced the rear window. They even avoided shattering the old tempered glass during removal, which thrilled me since cleaning up those tiny shards is nearly impossible, and I give them credit for preventing this, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. The new window wasn't taped to the body of the vehicle, but I was told the job was done and the car was ready, so I drove home. Once home, I noticed the glass had shifted--about 1 cm downward and about 1 cm inward into the window opening. I'm no expert, but it was clear the window hadn't had proper drying time, and the glass slid during the drive home. I reported the issue, and Corey at the front desk was surprised the window hadn't been taped. He said he would order a replacement piece. After that, communication stopped. More than two weeks later, I received an unexpected text confirming a new appointment time, which was something we had never discussed. Then, 30 minutes before the appointment, I was told they wouldn't be coming to my home as scheduled and that I had to go to the shop instead. I rearranged my day and drove to San Mateo. When I arrived, Corey confronted me dismissively. I showed him the obvious gap between the glass and the car and how the window sat unevenly within the opening. He rolled his eyes and said, "You're being very picky. This install is within our margin of error, and we're not going to replace it." Be warned! They operate with a surprisingly large "margin of error" and have no hesitation admitting it openly. So now I'm stuck with a rear window that is clearly misaligned--enough that when I wash the car, my hand catches on the lip of the roof where the glass sits too low. Parts of the vehicle around the window that were never exposed before are now visible, and the gap is undeniable. I'm extremely disappointed, not only with the installation but even more so with the customer service. If I ever need glass work again, I'll definitely go elsewhere, and I wouldn't recommend this Safelite location to anyone. They simply don't deserve your business. read more

Brought my tesla to have my back windshield replaced. Initially had an appointment to have it fixed as Tesla, but insurance recommaned we work with Safelite. Big mistake !. When arriving at the san mateo center, I was informed that they can't do it. They forgot to order the light that attaches to the windshield. Was moving out of the country and car supposed to be shipped a few days later. The acknowledged they made. mistake but weren't flexible to do anything to fix it. Suggested they keep the car for 1-2 weeks until the missing part arrives, and then have it picked up and sent abroad, but it's against policy to keep the car. I guess it is not against policy to mess with people's plans and then do anything to try to fix it. I would go somewhere else, where they care to do a good job and fix problems if they cause them. read more

I never write a negative review, but I am today. The service was fine until there was an issue with my window and I called to have the warranty checked. It's been only a few weeks. The technician put on the wrong screw and damaged the thread on the window. My auto body shop I took it to found it damaged and I asked for them to fix it. They said they can't cover for the warranty even though they're liable and damaged the window replacement themselves. My car had other damages to it that the repair shop had to fix and found the window was damaged when the technician installed it. I am very disappointed in the customer service and no follow up. They said someone will reach out to me to let me know updates on the warranty and no one did. I had to call them myself to find out that they came to a decision of not fixing the damaged that they caused. I paid $600 plus to fix my window and they are denying their mistake and damage. I do not recommend Safelite and their customer support. read more

Horrible quality material used for their windshields and their lifetime warranty is also a scam! I got replacement and 2 weeks later the safelight windshield had a small crack in it I assume an acorn or something may have fell on it but not sure. Safelight won't warranty the windshield if something may have fell on it. At this point if a small nut or leaf can crack it tells me the product is very poor and I am not safe with it on my car. Getting it replaced by a different company. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS UNSAFE PRODUCT. And takes forever trying to reach a live person. They don't even offer warranty in the phone prompts probably because they never cover warranties on their horrible windshields read more

However, it took the FOUR tries to replace my windshield. I knew my damage would be borderline for repair vs replacement, so that is why I submitted photos online when I made the initial appointment for a technician to come to my house. When the tech arrived he knew immediately I needed to replace the windshield and apologized. Why did he not get those images prior to the appointment? The second tech who came out to replace the window two days later did not have the correct windshield to go with my car's camera. I gave the woman my VIN when I made the appointment over the phone, so how did this happen? I stayed home from work 2 days to get this taken care of any still had to go to a shop for the replacement. Then, the bracket that was on the replacement did not fit and I had to leave my car overnight. C'mon, Safelite! read more

So I said ok and they finished In 1 hr. WoW I was extremely happy to say the Least. The shop was very clean And well organized. The waiting Area was very nice with comfortable chairs, flat screen TV And coffee. The bathrooms were Well maintained, clean and large. The staff was professional and Friendly.
