This was not simply payment for a few mediation conversations. The written service agreement expressly states that the $4,600 package covered unlimited mediation as well as document review, correspondence, calls, preparation of final agreements, and "all paperwork to initiate and complete a 'cooperative' divorce." At the beginning, Eric sounded extremely confident about the progress being made. On October 3, after meeting with my former spouse, he emailed me that she was "100% on board." He also told me that he had already "laid the groundwork." Based on those representations, I paid the remaining balance. What followed was very different. Communication became increasingly unreliable. I repeatedly had to chase promised updates. By early November, I was emailing Eric that even the other party was asking why he was so unresponsive and whether he was still our mediator. There were repeated promises of follow-up that required further chasing. Ultimately, mediation did not produce an agreement. More importantly, the substantial document-preparation and completion work bundled into the $4,600 package was never performed for me: South Bay Mediation did not prepare a final marital settlement agreement or complete the cooperative-divorce paperwork contemplated by the package. I am not criticizing Eric merely because mediation did not result in settlement. No mediator can guarantee that. My complaint is about paying a large flat fee for a package expressly containing substantial services that were never ultimately delivered, combined with the serious communication problems I experienced. Once it became clear the matter was going back through the court system, I requested a partial refund for the unperformed portion of the package. I requested it again in writing on March 16, 2026. On April 6, I sent a formal final demand asking him to identify what work he believed had been completed, what remained unperformed, and what portion of the $4,600 he would refund. I did not receive a substantive resolution of that request. Eric's agreement calls the flat fee "non-refundable." Consumers considering this service should understand exactly what that means in practice before paying thousands of dollars upfront. In my case, substantial services specifically described in the package were never completed, yet my requests for an accounting and partial refund went unresolved. I have retained the signed agreement, payment records, and email history documenting the timeline above. My experience with South Bay Mediation was an expensive lesson: do not assume that paying a large flat fee means the work described in the package will necessarily be completed, or that obtaining a refund for work that is not completed will be straightforward.

That kind of skill set only comes from years of experience and a very sharp mind. I feel lucky to have found her, and if I EVER need an attorney again she is who I would call. If you have to get a divorce attorney this is the place to do it. For the record if you have to spend your money on divorce don't waste it...and these kind folks know what's at stake and provide a service that uses your money in a thoughtful and meaningful fashion.
