I'm writing this to clarify the record and to inform others considering this firm. First, my ex never stated she intended to take our children to Japan. I was concerned about the possibility, which is why I personally requested a stipulation addressing what would happen if that ever occurred. That stipulation was my idea, not something proposed or drafted by this firm. Second, my case was not complex at the stage they describe. At the time, the matter was sitting at DEFAULT because the other party failed to respond within the required 30 days after service. This meant I had significant leverage, and default stipulations could have been drafted and submitted efficiently. I was NEVER provided that option in a straightforward way. Instead, I was advised not to proceed with a default judgment, with the explanation that it would "get messy later," and that the OTHER PARTY would have to return to court to modify terms. That advice directly discouraged me from using the leverage I legally had at that moment. Third, when I terminated representation, I requested the paperwork I had originally provided at the beginning of the case. I was told by the firm that they did not know what paperwork I was referring to. As a result, I had to personally obtain and reprint documents from the courthouse myself. Finally, communication was minimal. Most interactions consisted of very brief phone calls, yet billing entries reflected 30 minutes to an hour for those calls. I'm sharing this seven years after my divorce was ultimately resolved through my own efforts, not because I need anything now. I'm writing this because a recent client of this firm reached out to me after experiencing similar issues, which prompted me to finally document my experience publicly. To be clear, I do not need my paperwork today -- I needed it seven years ago, at a critical moment in my case. Reaching out to this firm now would serve no purpose and would only waste time. I normally don't write reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience so others can make informed decisions. I hired Pouya for a family law matter, and unfortunately my experience was very negative. He made promises that now seem completely unrealistic for example, he told me I would be awarded $30-40k in child support. After I was physically assaulted by my ex, he even advised me not to file a restraining order because, in his words, "we sounded like a married couple." Looking back, I find this advice shocking and harmful. On top of this, I was billed for phone calls and "advice" that didn't result in any progress. Promises were made but never delivered on, leaving me in a worse position both emotionally and financially. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the State Bar of California and considering additional steps. In the meantime, I want to caution others to think very carefully before hiring him. Also, do yourself a favor and look at the Yelp reviews more closely. Many of the positive ones are filtered out as suspicious, and some that remain don't reflect the reality of his practice. In response to his response, I have wanted to make this post and share how you made me feel during our mediation for some time however when I realized you take my ex husbands emails more seriously than you do mine it is what pushed me and decided to leave a review. This is a long overdue review. I wish I could give them a 0 star. Divorce and child custody is very sensitive for people life. I was going through a divorce with a 3 year old son. I hired Nowzaree firm seeing good reviews at Yelp. But how fool I was. They lost a winning case. I was given only 15% custody of my son because they fucked up at the court. I did not have any domestic violence, child abuse or anything. Live within 3 miles of BMs house. Our son is very attached to me and I am a super involved dad (I am a room parents at his school, always attend doctor appointment, extra curricular activities). Because of their misrepresentation I lost the time with my child. Mistakes at family court are expensive. It cost me thousands of $$ to undo the mistake they did. Don't be fool like me by yelp review. Each attorney at Nowzaree firm is fairly young (check CA bar license website when the passed bar exam). They don't have enough experience and don't care for clients. And they perform horribly at court. No amount of money will be able to buy the time with my son. They cost me irreplaceable damages. Just when I thought I was done singing Nowzaree Law's praises, here I am again! If you need your mental health protected during this very difficult time, Pouya is your guy! My case began in late 2020, and I thought it was over in 2023 when the case was settled and I had a custody agreement signed off by the judge. Little did I know it was far from over. The very first day of our agreement I was met with extreme anger, and threats of calling the police for supposedly not following the order. I knew it was unwarranted and checked the order several times to make sure I was following it correctly. I had been subjected to this type of behavior for 3 years, and it was definitely taking a toll on my mental health. After discussing the latest episode with Pouya, he suggested that we file a restraining order against my ex. I thought he was crazy since there was no physical abuse involved. Little did I know it can also include mental abuse. Pouya thoroughly explained the process, and that it would protect my peace and stop my ex from continuing to belittle, threaten and use foul language while interacting with me. Even though I was skeptical I agreed to move forward. And just like he promised that's exactly what it did! He was successful in obtaining the restraining order, and restored peace in my life! Initially I wanted to give 1 star, but ultimately, I am grateful that attorney Jason Stones was very responsive to me during a time of desperation, extreme stress, and panic- whereas my previous attorney kept me completely in the dark about everything even as my child custody hearing rapidly approached. He was also able to get my ex's attorney to agree to a PPA with only days to spare until my trial commenced. Now for the negatives: During the initial hearing, my ex's attorney was making what felt like direct and personal attacks against me to which I felt didn't get enough pushback from Jason. I didn't feel like he was for me as hard as he should have been. He also never made a reply declaration to my ex's reply. My ex made several terrible allegations against me, which resulted in me being investigated by Social Services. Jason didn't do the work to speak with the social worker to find out what the conclusion of that investigation was, or obtain a copy of the report from that investigation. Luckily, I did, and the reports conclusions completely refuted my ex's allegations. After I read the report, I told Jason that we should be submitting this to the court. His response was that we couldn't do that because this was "not an evidentiary hearing." For me, that was the last straw and I moved on to another law firm with attorney's that DID submit a reply declaration to my ex and DID submit the report from Social Services. I'm not sure how they were able to submit the report even though this was supposedly not an evidentiary hearing. Funnily enough, that very report was brought up repeatedly by the Judge as she admonished my ex for withholding my son from me and now, thanks to a different firm, I have had my visitation restored and joint custody established. read more
