TWO UPDATES: 1) I just had some recent dealings with SAFE's loan department for the first time. They were helpful, communicative and dealt with everything in a timely manner. Since the McClellan branch closed this is now my goto bank. I recognize some of the friendly faces from McClellan, which reassures me that Safe cares about their employees. This is a full service branch so you can do anything from auto to home loans, business banking, personal banking & so much more. This location is updated with nice furniture and decor. They have 2 outside atms, one of which is a drive thru. I personally prefer credit unions, Safe is great and the staff here is awesome. read more

Hi unfortunately opened account with safe credit Union on May 3 of 2023. I had just gotten a settlement check and I opened a new account to put the funds in there. I was told that my check was going to be made available today May 5, 2023. I went into the bank because I am in a tough situation right now and have to get a car, although my funds were available because it was not held for the five days that it was supposed to be held due to some kind of system error, they did not allow me to get my money. In fact, they rebels the check for the remainder of the five days which is three more days which would make my check available on May 9, 2023. Because of the situation I am going to lose out on a car that I just found for a really good deal and I'm also going to be driving another unsafe car to work because they didn't allow me to get my funds. I am very upset that they would do something like that and it's also not the best way to start a new customer relationship so when the check finally does clear, I will be closing this account and going to a different bank because I am unsatisfied with the services that I've gotten in two days. read more

It was a fast, friendly, and just overall pleasant visit. Came in to open a new account and receptionist was very helpful and nice. Also when I got to the back to be helped I sat down for less than 5 minutes and was greeted and taken to the a desk. The banker, she also gave my daughter coloring books and crayons to keep her occupied, banker was very attentive. Got everything done in a jiffy and was sent on my way. I have read other reviews and I have also banked with many other banks including credit unions and experiences varied sometimes they are on point and some days aren't their greatest but my over experience today was 5 star simple. Came back here Saturday. They handled me on phone and gave me provisional money back after being on hold for about 20 mins. Then come back to this same Safe to make simple deposit . Super packed and slow inside . Of course once again the atm at this location not accepting deposits now. Smh. Now I'm in Sri I've though with 5 people in line . Not even sure if it will work. Tynesa Melvin was my online loan officer and it was a horrible experience. This was my first time getting a loan so I wasn't sure about all the steps I had to take, she was very slow and very unhelpful. It was supposed to be an exciting thing but she made it so frustrating!! I couldn't get ahold of her and She wouldn't answer my emails or phone calls! I ended up just giving up and got a loan through somewhere else. I don't recommend this bank at all for anything. read more

I'm not sure how other credit unions operate but while visiting a SAFE CU branch, on Watt Ave, as a co-op bank to deposit a cashiers check into another bank Acct, I was told their would b a 3 day hold on the check. I advised them it was a cashiers check but they said it was not. They responded that my credit union had placed the 3 day hold on it and that I would need to contact them. I contacted my credit union and was told they had not place the hold, that SAFE CU had placed the hold. I was puzzled as to who had placed the hold on the cashiers check... I call my credit union and placed them on speaker so the SAFE rep could hear the conversation. My bank said that SAFE CU had placed the hold and until they could physically see the the check and verify the check, they would not release the hold placed by SAFE CU?? Huh?? SAFE CU emailed the check to my bank and they verified they received the cashiers check yet the 3 day hold was never released... I'm not happy with either of the credit unions and I will be closing my accounts at both of these credit unions. read more

This review isnt specifically for this location, its for the bank in general. This is a horrible bank! I deposited $159 via ATM the ATM only read $154. When it broke down wut i had deposited (10 x $1, 6 x $20, etc...) it had said i deposited 2 $5's when i had 3 $5's. So i called customer service and they credited me the missing $5 but then 4 days later they took it back out of my account causing it to become negative. WORST customer service EVER!! Im a new customer and this was a BAD 1st impression. Chase is better, if theres any disputes they credit you AND THEY DONT TAKE IT BACK!! Fucking rediculous ITS ONLY $5 Safe! I hope that $5 was worth it to u cuz u just lost a client on principle alone. .....$5!!! You really couldnt compensate ur customer 5 fucking dollars?! Smh cheap asses. read more

Do we have to go that low just to make a buck off of our members at least give us some kind of notice of the changes. STAY AWAY FROM SAFE CREDIT UNION I give them a zero hands down..i deposited a hundred and used 50 for a peer to peer transfer of 50 and it was deducted normally then i look at my account and there is a NSF fee from a paypal transfer of 50 dollars that was declined which i didnt know why because the funds were there but then i get told that the NSF fee was from a 150 pp transfer that was done on the 12th then there is another pp retry for 50 that clears (when the day before it was declined) then i see another attempt for a 50 dollar pp transer pending and my peer to peer pending. So what they tell me is the 2 50 dollar pp are from 2 transactions that i know FOR A FACT WERE CANCELED AND PP CONFIRMS THEY WERE CANCELED 3 WKS AGO. then the representative tells me oh merchants like paypal can and will try to collect 2 3 4 5 times, when a previous rep said 3 times max and pp tells me 3 times max. however the transfers they are trying to debit were canceled. furthermore tHey are putting my peer to peer transfer in a authorization status when its an isntant transfer. WHAT THEY DID WAS CHARGE ME WITH THE LARGE AND UNREAL CHARGES IN ORDER TO GENERATE FEES AND DIDNT WANT TO COP TO IT AND LIED LIED LIED IVE NEVER DEALT WITH THE WORST AND MOST RUDE IGNORANT REPS EVER!!! i WILL BE MAKING A COMPLAINT WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE AND MAKING SURE EVERYONE KNOWS THE REDICULOUSNESS GOING ON AT SAFE CREDIT UNION!!! read more

Run away. 10 years of poor service finally made me switch banks.

I used to love this bank but the "branch manager" which come to find out is not even a manager just pretended to be one...I had got a couple money orders as a gift and went to cash them with my account and put money in my account the "Manager" said we have to put a at most 2 business day hold on the funds because they are not like cash which doesn't make sense but okay whatever so I deposited them but before I did I asked I have bills coming out will the fee be waived since they are putting a hold on my funds they say yes and so the 2nd came around and the funds still are not available I call they say oh it will be a 9 business day hold and asked again about the fee got told again it would be reversed if my payments clear before the funds come to find out yesterday my payments cleared but they actually didn't it was just a fee from the bank now they refuse to do anything about it and also I found out the money orders were cashed by them the day after I deposited them and they are refusing to release my money to me saying I can't prove they cashed them and not somebody else before I gave it to them which is false and then won't let me speak with anyone to get my funds released and are telling me they can refuse to release the funds to me ever I will have to wait until the 9th so I closed my sons account will close mine and my husband will close his account we all have been banking with them for a few years never again nor will I ever recommend anyone I known to bank with them they are not about customer service putting their customers first or helping customers when they screw up especially since I have proof they got the money from my money orders DO NOT BANK WITH THIS COMPANY THEY ARE AS BAD AS BOA AND WELLS FARGO.... read more

I went in to this branch because I applied for a personal loan and was told by the call center that I was approved, when I asked to speak to the loan officer, I was told that they were "busy" and that I can just go to any local branch. Upon arriving at the front desk, I explained my situation to the associate and he immediately began treating me like I was an imposition. Like I was someone buried in debt and desperate for the money (which isn't remotely true). He did not ask me for anything to prove my identity and proceeded to tell me the rate and term I was approved for without really knowing for certain who I am. He went to a desk and called the loan officer, came back and said "she said she'll call you tomorrow." Which, she didn't. I have now left 2 voicemails with a loan officer and no one has returned my calls. I understand that I am asking for financing, but I was approved and they did put an inquiry on my transunion. I'm still the CUSTOMER, and this customer is very dissatisfied with the service I've received. read more

The bank removed my overdraft protection without informing me and I got a charge of $115 from my apartments due to Safe holding a transfer and not releasing it on time. The customer service was terrible and the management didn't care about my needs. After banking with Safe Credit union for over 8 years I had to close the account due to todays encounter with 2 employees who weren't sympathetic and 1 showed zero respect. If I could give zero stars I would. The customer service is awful. I went in to pay my mother's visa bill for her. Since I didn't have a statement I brought the card. The teller was so focused on the fact that I had my mother's card she did not listen to my explanation that I brought the card with me to identify the account so I could pay the bill. That the funds from my payment earlier in the month were redeposited in my account for some unknown reason. I also explained the reason why I was paying her bills. Every word went totally over her head she did not listen to a word I said and in return of course I got upset. There is also still a descrepency on the amount of cash I gave her for the payment. At that point I didn't care that they claimed I had given them less then I handed the teller.. I didn't need the additional stress. Customer Service and listening skills need to be taught. Compassion and humanity can not be taught that comes the heart which these people do not have. read more

My husband went into this branch and made a deposit of 10,000.00 from a title company in Sac.. He put 5000.00 in savings and 5000.00 in checking there was already money in both accounts. The bank put a 14 day hold on the total amount . Then started taking money out of my savings to cover checks I wrote . Six times , after the sixth time they froze it so that I could not transfer money. I didn't need to transfer anything because it is not legal for them to hold a check that long with out good cause , and certainly not the full amount . A title company is not usually someone who gives you a bad check. Their check was very good. In fact Safe credit union had the money the very day my husband deposited it. I know because I had the title company send the cashed copy to me front and back. I called safe, when I saw them taking money out of my savings and charging me to do so. Because they said we had non sufficient funds They removed those charges after two phone calls demanding that they remove them. Their employees knew that the check had cleared and yet they still were going to keep playing the game and charging me. They acted as if they were doing me a favor by removing the charges. When I checked to make sure the charges were gone, there was another fee of 28.00 they called it a courtesy fee. The next day I called and told them that I had the cancelled check in my hand and that I had read on line that the way they held my check was not legal.They changed their tune. They treat their customers like idiots. They charge you for their mistakes and are rude about it too. They put me on hold multiple times , I believe to try and figure out how to clean up their rude mess . Everything was returned to me as far as their fees go . At any time one of them could have checked to see when that check cleared and probably did but didn't care it was easier to charge me fees and treat me like I'm stupid. If they have done this to you go on line and read what they can legally do . Don't trust what they tell you . P. S. I would rather bank at an institution where I can fill out my own deposit slip. I can add and subtract and don't trust them to do it. read more
