Tattenham Corner

Salsa evening means another food search before the dancing! After lucking out with El Rincon last…read moreweek, my salsa friend Hilary and I came back to Tattenham Crescent, just a few doors down to Chillis Just recently, we've found quite a few independent Indian restaurants in the are serving some good original dishes - we've enjoyed good meals at Cinnamon Spice in Epsom and Dhansiri in Ewell., for example. So it was nice to see some unique dishes on the specialities section of the menu. We chose the chicken dhakeshwari, which was a mild dish garnished with mango and almond. It was like a pasanda but the mango added a nice fruity note to the sauce. Our other main dish was the chicken chettinad, which included roasted coconut and mixed Indian seeds in a hot sauce. The coconut added a nutty flavour and the heat of the chettinad made a nice contrast to the dhakeshwari I enjoyed the distinctive flavours in the main dishes and the accompaniments - papadums, mango lassi, naan and pilau rice - were all delicious Service was friendly and efficient. We will be back to try more dishes on the specialities list

Great food! Great food! Great food! Have you ever been to an Indian restaurant where the only…read moredifference between each dish is a slight change in the colour of the sauce? Chillis is not one of them........ The food is excellent quality, well presented and reasonably priced. In particular they offer a fantastic banquet evening on Tuesday's although as a result the restaurant is often very busy on that night. My own personal favourite on the menu is balti lamb jalfrezi.

Visiting London from Chicago and of COURSE we had to try some of the town's famous East…read moreIndian-Pakistani cuisine, but friends' recommendations were all for high-end and/or chain places. So we did some research. Somewhere along the line we found Meraz written up as one of the 12 best Indian restaurants in England. Okay, so we trek over to the East End (pretty wild neighborhood that we enjoyed) for dinner at Meraz. My husband was disappointed not to find a particular dish on the menu, but the waiter didn't hesitate to offer to have the kitchen whip it up special for him. My husband also went a little wild ordering all sorts of appetizers and side dishes. Now I don't like to deal in hyperbole. A five star rating should be sufficient praise. But I'm going to go overboard just this once: BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN A RESTAURANT. EVER. I've eaten in Indian restaurants at home in Chicago, in L.A., New York, St.Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc., etc. etc. Many have been good, but none approached this. We ate every scrap of all the food we ordered, and only because we had a tight timeline and a busy itinerary for our brief visit to London did we not go back for at least a second meal.
