If you need a break and want to retreat to nature, Dunkerhook is a good place to visit. Very peaceful and serene. Lots of passive green and giant trees. Nice walking paths also. read more

Got stuck in accident traffic and pulled off 208 to find another way to the gym. Found this park in a serendipitous way. It was warm and I'd much rather skip a spinning class to take in nature instead. There were families, dog walkers, joggers and bikers all enjoying spring. Quite a few deer were wondering around. Plenty of birds, most notably very large redheaded woodpecker making a terrible racket. Just kidding, I really enjoyed watching him poke for bugs. This park is a long stretch of greenway following both sides of a creek. There are mile markers that take you through different towns. I think I only did about a mile and a half of it, but I'm looking forward to coming back now that it's warmer, and exploring the different bridges and trails. read more

This is one of the most peaceful, serene parks you'll find in dense Bergen County. This is another piece of the Saddle River County Park system, and perhaps the most beautiful. As you drive into the parking lot, you'll feel like you're transported into the wooded forest. Countless mature trees cast heavy shade on nearly the entire park, no matter where you go. Perfect during the summer time. There's also a nice little playground that will be sure to keep your kids entertained. read more

Stopped in on my lunch break, while looking for a quiet open space to enjoy my tub of salad. It's off the Paramus Rd - keep an eye out for it. Very easy to access, but also easy to miss if you're not looking for the sign. During the day, and also in the dead of winter, you can mostly have the place to yourself. In season, it's well manicured and tended, but does tend to fill up quickly. It turns lush and green quite quickly, but is popular with families looking for an outing. Features a modest jungle gym and some sports fields. It's attached to the greater Saddle Brook County Park system trail which starts in Ridgewood and loops along to the town of Saddle Brook. Great spot for a picnic, a walk, or a run. Recommend! read more

Tall Maple's, Oaks and some nice Birch trees abound in this area, the addition of a few clusters of assorted Pines give this park great character. I will put lots of photos up for this one. Dunkerhook is a refreshing breathe of nature in the otherwise concrete paradise of Paramus. Nestled right off of Paramus road, this park area offers a playground, plenty of open field space and has a bike path running through, perfect for jogging, biking, walking, etc. The path starts in Ridgewood, at the duck pond and runs to Saddle Brook, a total of 7 miles/one way. There are a few parks along the way, and while each is nice in its own way, I enjoy this location best. It tends to be quieter, there's always a ton of parking, and it is very easy to get to. I usually jog over here 2-3 times a week and love the atmosphere. The area feels safe, is always clean, and well patrolled by park rangers. If your ok the area and looking for a park to take the kids, or walk the dog I would definitely recommend Dunkerhook. read more

The Dunkerhook Area of the Saddle River County Park system is probably the most beautiful, owing to an attractive waterfall, some well landscaped bridges, and gorgeous, well-established trees. This "zone" of the park features picnic areas, a pavilion, a playground, two medium-sized parking areas and one small one, and a clean restroom. Licensed fishing is allowed, and the river is stocked in this area. There are both paved and unpaved trails, which are generally clear of dog debris. Everything about this park would be 5 stars, but I just can't stand the people. First, Dunkerhook is the most heavily used area, and trails are frequently crowded. Second, the visitors are generally wealthy, privileged Paramus types. And they are sometimes rude. Not always, probably not even often, but there are just so many people that even if a small number of them are jerks, you are bound to encounter a couple. Expect to have to walk in the mud to pass groups walking 4-6 abreast on the trails. Worse, the trail merges with the exit road to the park, and no one gets out of the way of the cars. Expect to take at least 15 minutes to exit the park, as you crawl behind a group (again, walking 4 abreast). Minor irritations aside, Dunkerhook is lovely. Unfortunately though, it was hit badly by Sandy, with many trees down. Though they have been cleared from the paved paths, the historic trails (the unpaved ones) are blocked all over, and have become unusable. (As I say this it's 5 months after the hurricane). Hopefully, they can clear away the rest of the debris, as the trails were the main attraction for me to Dunkerhook. read more

For all those who have the misconception that Jersey is all armpit without any of the beauty of the rest of the body have yet to visit the Saddle River County Park System in Bergen County. The park system is a vast network of interconnected park which begins in Saddle Brook, NJ and spreads for miles throughout the upper Bergen County region. Dunkerhook sits within Paramus and is a thing of beauty. The area is perhaps my favorite of the park system for the fact it has many wonderful trails, creeks, small waterfalls and plenty of shady spots and wild life. For photographers their are plenty of birds, ducks, geese, fish, trees such as birch, maple and pines n plantlife to snap wonderful shots. For bike riders, joggers and walkers their are plenty of trails to ride, jog and walk about. Their are plenty of areas for children to enjoy as well. All in all it s a wonderful park system that as residents of the area one should nt take for granted and really shoud take advantage of. read more

Water is disgusting and polluted, has a bad odor and has trash floating in it. Dont listen to anybody here they dont know what real nature is because they haven't been anywhere else. Dunkerhook is a fresh breath of a polluted water with no fish. I have been places where the water is crystal clear, you can drink it because its clean and is full of fish. There is barely any wildlife, you wont even see a beaver. How can anyone say this is a place of beauty? You have never seen real nature. This place is a dump and used to dump raw sewage into the water. read more

This little nook of nature is a nice place to have a nice walk and relax. Personally I like to walk on the woodsy side path's with less people. The joggers and constant bikes zipping past overwhelm me a bit. Also don't like being in certain areas in warmer times of the year because of all the mosquitoes. I also thought it was sad the amount of trash I've seen in that river as well as the park. Certain areas of that river also smell like god knows what and that is also kind of sad. Other than those factors I do generally enjoy coming here. It's peaceful when you find a nice quite spot in a more secluded area off the main paths. Just pick up your trash please! read more
