So depending on what you're looking for outdoors, this is a nice oasis for the otherwise very urban areas in North Jersey.

The trails are on wide, level black pavement. It's a perfect time to take a stroll either individually, with family or friends, or with a domestic pet. While walking, I highly recommend wearing sunscreen and/or a hat. Drink plenty of water because there are minimal trees leading to no shade on the trail. If you want to get your heart rate up, go for a jog or bicycle ride. Multiple benches are stationed throughout the trails. Or, you can always bring your own lounge chair or blanket to find a quiet spot to sit and chill. It's a great place to set up a picnic while admiring breathing taking views of the Manhattan Skyline. During the warmer seasons, the Overpeck Park Kayak Center is open. Feel free to rent a canoe or kayak and paddle the Overpeck Creek. In addition to boats, the Kayak Center also rents out fishing rods for prospective anglers. However, a valid NJ freshwater fishing license is required. To avoid any fees, all visitors have the option to bring their own equipment. A fairly large playground is on site for younger children. They may play on the jungle gym, swing set, climbing webs, and slides. There are multiple parking lots available throughout the park. Some of them have an EV charging station for electric automobiles. SBCP…read moresprawls over a number of Bergen County townships - Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook, Fairlawn, Paramus, Glen Rock, and Ridgewood. My coworker told me that it's possible to walk the entire expanse of the park by connected paths. There is a path that begins at Railroad Avenue, winds along the river for about a mile, and then links to a footbridge that will take you towards the Otto Pehle Area (Fairlawn). Before the footbridge, you'll see a baseball field, tennis courts, areas with picnic tables, and a gazebo. You walk under the Garden State Parkway (you can see the GSP signs for exits 157 and 159 from the path) if you keep heading north. The paths here are pretty wide, so there is ample room for walkers, joggers/runners, dog walkers, skaters, bicyclists, etc - all of whom i saw this weekend despite it still being February with brisk, chilly winter weather. Happy New Year friends!…read more 2026 is my year (I say this every year) and I wanted to center my well-being today. So I joined my body affirming hiking group (ask about us!) for our Jan. 1 First Day Hike to Garret Mountain. Imagine our collective surprise when we woke up to a phantom overnight snowstorm! Still we persisted. Our group of 6 was suited and hiking booted for the wooded trails only to discover a thick layer of ice under and over the rocks headed into the forests. Even our microspikes wouldn't have been much help due to the steep declines. So we backtracked and decided to walk the auto loop instead. We got a mile into our 3 miles and Passaic County PD came around and announced the park was closing due to ice and dangerous conditions. So we walked back up to the auto lookout and headed out. 2 of 3 miles wasn't bad considering that I was cold in places I've never been cold before, and had just said to my friend, "I have a bad feeling about this hike today" right before we had to come out of the woods due to ice. Listen to your intuition! I know this park will be stunning in spring so I can't wait to return. The mountain views and gorgeous NYC skyline are not to be missed. Keep in mind: -The Tower was closed for maintenance so check before you go -Microspikes are a must in the winter - and even then... -It's a good 7-8 degrees colder up high in the park. 22 felt like 15. -the wildlife does not gaf. The deer stepped to us as if WE were the exhibit. Love that for them tbh.

My two last visits to this park led to my dog getting sick for three weeks…read more Geese poop on the trails, leads to dogs getting sick with parasites. Spent time in the gated section for dogs led to a flea bath. I will no longer be taking my dog to this park. Be ware of dangers to your dogs.

Aside from the many pieces that you'll see, you will also have chances to admire the wild life. They've done a good job at keeping the trails clean, wide, but you'll encounter many types of terrain so, I suggest hiking with boots. Also, take it all in and take your time. Don't forget to look up, as well. I will try to enjoy the conservancy in every season, to see how it changes and gives back to us.

Plenty of parking and open fields for you to walk or picnic. There's a a lot of picnic tables, a picnic table and a few grills. There is a memorial, soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, and a playground. The best part of the lake is probably the lake. I didn't go in but there were a lot of people in the water and on the beech. There were lifeguards and a few docks. Check out their website for specifics on hours, membership or permits.
