Boat launch
Claire G.

This is a nice place to stop off on the way to Mt St Helens. Restrooms, bbq pits, and a boat launch area with three docks. Not a whole heck of a lot to say.

Great view out on the water

Moulton Falls Regional Park - A beautiful walk in the woods, when you're not in sight of the river

I watched families and hikers passing by, some daring to dip into the water. I can only imagine how cold it must be, but it looked exhilarating! Every turn offered something new, towering trees, sparkling streams, and even little corners where wildflowers peeked out. We ended up spending hours wandering, stopping whenever we felt like it, and just enjoying the simple beauty of it all. It's definitely a stop that makes you slow down, notice the little things, and feel refreshed by being outside. I can see myself coming back again and again.

Do me a favor and visit Moulton Falls seasonally because the natural beauty is ever-changing. Winter visits reveal churning water that roars furiously as it cascades over giant bolders and rock formations. Summer visits offer deep, mountain fresh pools of blue-green water that attract locals and tourists alike for a refreshing swim or float. There's something for everyone in this special park. Be sure to walk up to the bridge that spans the narrow canyon as it offers a stunning view of the river below. If you continue beyond the bridge you'll find a well-maintained trail that follows the river westward for miles and miles. The lush forest is filled with plants in every shade of green; towering Douglas Fir, Sword and Brachen Fern, Salal, Huckleberry and so much more. For a special treat, visit in early spring when the Trillium are blooming. Arriving from the west, visitors will first encounter the main falls with a small parking lot. Don't worry if it's full, there are two more lots further up the road as it turns sharply toward the north in the direction of Yacolt. Don't miss Yacolt Falls - a smaller waterfall on Big Tree Creek, which empties into the Lewis River just east of the main falls. You can access it from the gravel parking lot on the side of the road.

An October late afternoon was spent here wandering through Lewisville Regional Park, and by the end…read moreI felt like I'd stumbled into a slice of old‑school nature magic. The park's 2.8‑mile trail winds through a mix of dense forest and sunlit meadows along the East Fork Lewis River, giving you moments of peaceful reflection and wide-open breathing room. We decided to spend our time taking Halloween photos all over the park. While enjoying ourselves, it was great inspiration. There is something grounding about the tall Douglas firs and the hum of the river nearby. I found a quiet spot on one of the gravel paths, sat down for a bit, and just watched as the river ran. Apparently it's not just a walking park, either..there are places to picnic, horseshoe pits, and even a small boat launch if you want to get out on the water. There are lots of picnic tables and covered shelters too, perfect for a family gathering or a chill afternoon with friends. I heard on warm days, people swim here..though heads up, there are no lifeguards and the river currents can be strong. Parking is simple, though there's a daily fee (around $3 for a car). If you come here often, the annual pass is a pretty good deal. If you're craving a place to get away from the city, stretch your legs, or just be near water and trees, Lewisville Regional Park is the perffffect place. It's peaceful, historic (hello, WPA-era charm), and deeply rooted in nature. See my pictures for yourself hehe

We took the loop trail, about 3 miles around the park, into the forest and along the river. There are multiple large grassy areas, play areas, and courts. The pavilions are superb. They are fully equipped, including a water source and fire pit, and are spread out throughout the acreage. The trail was great as well. The paths are very wide and well maintained, a dog walkers paradise. I was also impressed with the amount of trash cans, no excuse for litter in this park. There was a very small thing that really impressed me, hadn't seen it before...a container near the waters edge to place used fishing line. Would love to see those more often! The ONLY negative experience we had was trying to get in. Neither of the parking pass machines were working well and consistently. It took us about 10 tries to get a ticket. After multiple swipes of the credit card and attempts with some bills, we finally got one. And it wasn't us, we had a long line behind us and multiple people out trying to get them to work. When we left the park we noticed the same traffic jam...they definitely need addressed! As frustrating as the parking machines were, the park made up for it. Fabulous place to spend an afternoon!

There is plenty of parking, a small playground, 12 picnic tables on the park side (there might be a couple more on the boat launch side, I don't recall), a restroom facility and the boat launch. The boat launch is on the opposite side of the road from the park. There is a fair amount of open grassy space to let the kids run around or play frisbee, etc. We didn't see any BBQ grills but they do have a hot coals disposal area if you want to bring your own portable grill. There were several people fishing along the river when we stopped by and saw one family playing in a small sandy area along the river. The river current is quite swift in the section by the park because of some curves in the river, so I wouldn't advise allowing small children to wade in the water here as they could easily be swept away, and because of this I'm not sure if swimming is even allowed (I didn't see mention of it on their website, but don't recall what the local signage said).

Here, the river splits around a small island that is rumored to be a good spot for salmon fishing in the springtime. The water runs slower on the park side than in many places along the Lewis river, making it a nice place for swimming if you can snag a piece of the pebbly beach. The great news is that the park is rarely busy and we often find an area we can swim and play for the day. Beyond picnic tables, grills, and grassy areas, there is also a public toilet, and garbage cans throughout. Dogs are permitted on leash, but there is no doggy clean up station - you'll need to bring your own bags. If you're a mosquito magnet like me, you'll want to bring your bug spray. They're everywhere and they are thirsty! Logs have been intentionally placed along the riverbank to create areas for fish. We've seen minnows, snails, and caddisfly larva in the shallows. Fish jumping and even river otter can be seen in the deeper channel in the middle of the river. The park is well maintained and off the beaten path. There are two roads you can turn off of Cedar Creek to get to Haapa . They are Etna rd and Roser rd. Turning right onto Etna is an extremely sharp turn. A minivan can't do it without entering oncoming traffic after the turn. Conversely, taking a left onto Roser is extremely sharp. If you're hauling a boat, plan to enter from one direction and leave from the other for smoother traveling.

The walk in is easy, about a 1‑mile loop with gentle gravel paths, enough shade to feel cool but also patches where sunlight filters through the trees in the most beautiful way. I saw a woman with her stroller here, but had leave it half way through because there is an upward path. When I reached the waterfall, I was struck by how graceful it was, the river cascades over a basalt-rock ledge, wide and steady. One of the most magical things..the park is a front-row seat for steelhead trout leaping upstream. There are picnic tables nearby, so I ended up opening up my book and just reading, listening to the water, hearing frogs, and feeling completely grounded. And honestly sometimes running away from bees! Oh the great outdoors! But a very important heads-up: no swimming allowed. The area near the falls is a sensitive fish spawning ground, and the park strictly protects it. Parking is easy enough and the park is open from 7a.m. to dusk. If you're looking for a peaceful afternoon where you can unwind, enjoy a modest but lovely waterfall, go visit Lucia Falls.
