Let's get straight to the heart of what Beaver Falls is all about... If you plug "Beaver Falls Trailhead" into Google Maps, you'll have no problem finding it. Then just park along the side of Highway 30 and hike 1/3rd of a mile through the forest to the base of the falls. It's that easy. When I visited on a Thursday in early afternoon of July, there was hardly anyone around which was good for taking quality photos. Best of all, you can swim in the waters. So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below. It's great for kids (and adults too, lol) to have playful times. For me, I was content soaking in the pool and appreciating the surroundings. More info... - It's free to visit. - Cell phone reception works fine. - You can walk underneath the falls! This is a Must-Do. You can capture some amazing moments standing beside Beaver Falls. It's not hard or dangerous and offers a unique perspective. - Beaver Falls is just one of many outstanding waterfalls situated around Oregon and especially near the Columbia River. There's also Lower Lewis River Falls, Panther Creek Falls and Spirit Falls, to name a few. - You can spend a few hours hanging out or as little as 30 - 40 minutes. It depends on your time horizon. But overall, it's really pleasant to be here that I'd suggest bringing snacks, lunch and maybe having a picnic. This Beaver Falls is absolutely so much fun to hang out at. When you can swim in the waters, swing from a rope and even walk underneath the falls, It makes for a worthwhile summer visit.

I'd seen information online suggesting that this location was dog friendly, so I thought this would be an easy stop for us and routed us slightly out of our way to come here. Unfortunately that was not our experience. When we arrived, we discovered that dogs are not allowed in the Japanese Garden area and there were also signs throughout the park indicating that dogs are prohibited in many areas. It seems like they allow leashed dogs in parts of the park, but there are several restricted areas. So if you're traveling with a dog, I would recommend skipping this area entirely. It's not worth trying to decipher where it is and is not okay for you to be. Since we were already here we took turns checking out the gardens themselves and honestly they were pretty underwhelming. I don't know if we caught them at the wrong time of year, but there doesn't seem to be anything here that makes it worth the effort of a trip specifically to come in and see them. The park itself looked nice and people seemed to enjoy walking around the lake, but the gardens just weren't that impressive in my opinion. In hindsight, I really wish we had skipped this stop but if you don't have a dog or don't travel with one, you may enjoy this location.

Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful spot…read more My husband and I visited this dock 2 days ago after going to my Grandmother's 90th Birthday Party in the area. There is a bronzed statue of Sacajawea near the bridge by this dock. The autumn foliage here is just breathtaking - bright yellows, brilliant oranges, and cranberry reds - and there are lilypads *everywhere* which really add to the beauty of the place. The dock itself is a mostly-rectangular-shaped, with slanted corners, and it is about 20 - 30 feet wide and about 15 - 20 feet long. From the dock, you can see glorious amounts of lilypads, a good section of the lake, a proud tall fountain that emerges from the center of the lake, the bridge to your right (about a 2-minite walk from the dock), and lots and lots of trees. Off in the distance behind the dock, there's a playground, which was full of happy kids playing in it on the Saturday that we visited. There were quite a few people out at the lake itself this past Saturday, however, it never felt crowded, and we were the only two people on the dock itself. There are no benches on the actual dock, but there's a nice park bench very close to it. I have some memories of Lake Sacajawea from when I was much younger, since I have family in this area, but I hadn't been there in many years until this past weekend. I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. It's a lovely place to chill for a while or take a short stroll.

I'm quite surprised to be the first to review this beautiful and very well kept-up riverfront park…read more We stayed at McMenamin's Kalama Harbor Lodge this past weekend, and Louis Rasmussen Day Park is adjacent to the Lodge. My husband and I were surprised by how much we liked this park. We were also surprised by how much this park has to offer. It has wide walking paths with beautiful waist-height light posts lining one of the paths for when it gets dark - very romantic! The river view is really nice. There are lots of trees, 2 covered areas with several picnic tables under each one, horseshoe-throwing sand pits, tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, several sandy river-front areas, and 2 beach-volleyball courts. Also within Louis Rasmussen Day Park is Ahle's Point Cabin, a small, gorgeous, wood-paneled restaurant/bar with 2 fireplaces (1 indoor & 1 outdoor), a patio overlooking the river which is a nice place from which to watch the sunset, and a variety of games to play if you're in a game-playing mood, from cribbage to chess. I'll review Ahle's Point Cabin (which is a part of McMenamin's) more extensively on its own separate listing, but for the purposes of this review, the cabin really adds a lot to this already impressive park. This park has 3 signs saying that: 1. Beachfront hours are from 5am - 9pm. 2. There is no camping or overnight staying at this park. 3. No alcohol is allowed in this park. The public bathrooms in this park are easily accessible - they're near the basketball courts and the tennis courts - and they're very clean, well-kept-up for outdoor bathrooms, and well-stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. To my surprise, I noticed a full walk-in shower at the back of the women's bathroom. However, the shower was out-of-order at the time of my visit. Do note that this park is a stone's throw away from a busy amtrak train track and close enough to I-5 to clearly read the exit signs on that freeway. However, don't let that deter you from visiting this lovely park. We saw couples, teenagers, families with small kids, 20-somethings, and elderly folks enjoying their time there yesterday. This is a delightful park for a stroll along the river, a chat seated on a park bench, watching a sunset from the Ahle's Cabin patio, a picnic, or a fun game of basketball, horseshoe-throwing, tennis, or beach volleyball.

I don't mean to be rude or roast that person. Onto the review. I have grown up with this park. I went to a very very VERY tiny school, essentially across the street. We'd constantly be walking over to do school, anything really. I have very fond memories of how nice and big the park was, no real issues to think of. Fast-forward to the present, no nostalgia goggles, this is a very nice park. They just put in a disc golf course, which is very exciting. It's still very spacious, very clean and nice...outdoor environment? They keep the grass, trees, etc, very well kept. Sorry, best way I could explain that. When I went, the playground was busy and still looked as nice as ever. There's still plenty of picnic tables or seating in general. I didn't go into the bathrooms, but those have never been "a truly horrifying experience" for my money. You can do SO much here! There's plenty of room to ride bikes or other "wheeled" activities, there's a volleyball court, there's a soccer field, a basketball court. I may even be forgetting something. OH! You can even just get a good walk or run in. Overall guys, this is an excellent park even if I didn't grow up coming extremely regularly while making some of my favorite childhood memories. They keep all the greens watered and healthy, the parks and other facilities as well, and overall you'll just find that you're likely never bored here.

But I'll leave that out and talk objectively. First up, the playground. It's nice, clean, and one of the biggest I went to as a kid. I thought it was really fun then, and it seems to still be the same now. There's plenty of open field space. Some made up for baseball, some just grass ready to run in OR play any game you want. Speaking of baseball, Rister Stadium's right there. As you're driving in, it's on the left. I'm not sure if it technically counts as "part of Tam O'Shanter Park" but it sure feels like it. There is PLENTY of parking. I remember as far back as before they added all the nice new paved lots. This park is also kind of "in a corner" for lack of a better term. What I mean to say is, there's other parks in town that can be right off a street, or even entirely surrounded by streets or other things. This is a big park, and secluded enough. Overall, I find there to be plenty of fun for the entire family. This is a frequently visited park, and very popular. Be sure to check out the drive-thru Christmas Lights every December! As I walked away from water, near children's play equipment I was in dire pain and getting sand burrs in my feet! There were so many! As I tried to find a bench to sit down, I had to walk on my feet full of sand burrs! Google Lens described the picture of what was in my feet as " Longspine Sandbur/ Sandspur"! For 8 days I have deeply embedded barbed spines in my feet ! The more movements , like walking, or squeezing to remove, causes them to go deeper into your flesh! Cowlitz County weed is only classified as "C", meaning that it isn't going to be removed. Port of Longview is the organization that maintains/ owns; Willow Grove Park.
