Lovely vantage points to enjoy the whitewater
    John K.

I regularly find myself driving on beautiful wooded country roads, catching glimpses of rivers, and wishing there was a convenient place to pull off the road and safely get to the water's edge. Lucia Falls is exactly the kind of place I hope to find. It's basically a parking lot leading to trails that more or less parallel the river. Walking west from the parking lot, it was hard to tell when the park ended, but it's a pleasant walk in the woods. Going east from the parking lot is a longer loop, and a direct shortcut to Lucia Falls itself. It's a short walk with a beautiful payoff. There are picnic tables near the water, and paths giving you great views of the rushing water. If you've already been to Moulton Falls Park, and then stopped at Lucia Falls, you can complete the neighborhood hat trick with a visit to Pomeroy Farm and Winery, just to the west.

First time here. I like it, but please do not be fooled by the "one-mile loop". To see the water, it is literally a few feet away from the parking lot. However, if you want to do a little loop around it - it could potentially be a mile. But it is not much of a hike at all. The view is great. If you are feeling adventurous, you can definitely do a little scrambling over the rocks- just be careful, a little slippery! We used the restroom here, pretty well kept (have running water, soap, toilet paper and paper towels). Parking lot is paved, clean, and no payment/pass required, at least that I can see when I was there. Arrived at 2pm today, still lots of parking spots left.

On your way to/from the much larger Moulton Falls, consider stopping at Lucia Falls for a quick view of the East Fork of the Lewis River and (in autumn) steelhead leaping up the falls. Lucia Falls Regional Park is open 7:00 a.m. to dusk. The water is just a 0.3 mile walk (1-mile loop) from the parking lot (about 40 spaces). The park is actually small at just 24 acres; however a relatively easy 2.5-mile trail connects Lucia Falls Park with Moulton Falls Park. At Lucia Falls, parking and entrance are free. There really are few restrictions except stay out of the water (to protect the fish). Besides, the river flows fast here and is definitely not the place to get in the Lewis River. The rush of water and old-growth forest make Lucia Falls a wonderful outdoor escape from modern life.

Great hike with multiple routes and distances for the whole family! We went about halfway and turned around. All hikers seemed to be wearing masks. Beautiful views and we thoroughly enjoyed taking in the nature. The green forestry and blue waters make for some great pictures. All hikers on that we passed were friendly - but we did find dog waste in the middle of the path - watch your steps! Other than that, the trail seems to be well-kept. The bridge makes for some great pictures too!

An absolute hidden gem beautiful views and A lovely 1 mile loop hike. Easy parking, picnic tables, restrooms, everything you need. Recommend it.

This is one of my favorite hikes of all time. Gorgeous, easy, great location, and did I mention gorgeous? Seriously breathtaking. The best place to just hang out and think and let the mist from the river hit my face. Love love this place. I asked my bf if he wanted to hike here for the 2nd time or take an exciting day trip to Oregon and he chose this. Go figure, haha! Would recommend to anyone!

When I reached the waterfall, I was struck by how graceful it was, the river cascades over a basalt-rock ledge, wide and steady.

There are two short trails that are less than a mile each. The Streamwatch Trail takes you along the water and even has a little underwater fish viewing area. There weren't any fish in March, but it must be pretty cool to watch the fish underwater during busier seasons. The Wetlands Trail takes you along a wooden boardwalk to literally go through a wetland area. Most of these trails are stroller/wheelchair friendly, but there are some parts that are on dirt and gravel, which may be a little trickier. There are also a lot of picnic tables along the Streamwatch trail, which would be perfect in warmer weather.

We took both the Wetlands and Streamwatch trails. You've got to be verrry careful right now on the oh-so slippery boardwalks of the Wetlands. It was very icy throughout the entire trail. The Streamwatch trail winds you through picnic areas, along the river, and by the underwater viewing area. We drove around past other trails and over to the family meadow and picnic area. Plenty of parking and the restrooms that were open were clean. There were a few structures and trail aspects that needed some tending to, but overall it's a lovely recreation area...peaceful now but probably loads of fun for families in the springtime!

So for myself, and for health benefits, this past spring and summer I decided to start taking tennis lessons. This was to add a change to my cardio regime. Plus, I haven't played tennis in over ten years. Here's a few information: * General Facilities & Parking Lot * First of all, the campus is fairly huge. And they appear to offer everything from swimming, to tennis obviously, league sports like softball for adults, and soccer/football/lacrosse for kids. They even provide maps for certain walking trails. The parking lot accommodates mainly for the aquatics center and tennis courts. But I've yet to run into an issue with parking close to the tennis facility and softball fields. Plenty of spaces, but I'd say more crowded closer to the aquatic side. Lots of kids taking swim classes. * Babette Horenstein Tennis Center * Did I mention this facility is huge? Yeah, there's a good amount of courts. I believe about twelve in total, maybe more. The cool part is, six are indooor and six are outdoor. The indoor courts are well ventilated for the most part, but can get real hot during the summertime. As for the outdoor courts, they seasonally set up a green tent during the fall and winter, but remove it around springtime and summer. You can reserve a court, but they've got various rates. Primarily depending on your purpose (yes pickleball players are allowed), your place of residency, and a time of day. I will admit, it can be hard to reserve a court due to its popularity. * Tennis Instructors * Thus far I've had the two Brian's, a Bill, and a few others. So far so good as all of them have been excellent teachers of the game. Very knowledgeable instructors. From area positioning, to racquet grip holding, to hitting routine and feeling, it's those little tweaks and adjustments here and there that really help. They make the classes worth it! Well, that just about sums it up! Just note that local residents receive more of the benefits versus folks like myself that live "out of district." Like priority sign-ups if you're looking for a class. Regardless, I still find myself taking advantage of what they have to offer.

Some of the lifeguards and management didn't like me for asking them to be more safety minded when we were performing gymnastic diving. It does so in a very dangerous and low life way. it uses 'hit men', staff members from somewhere else, or friends, or acquaintance to cause trouble and sabotage people's reputation in real time. THPRD needs to close down it's management team and get all new mission, not to break from the honor code like it is now breaking, and to not lie about being all inclusive when it's a party club and if you don't fit in and stay quiet, you're out and personally attacked by staff and management. Dangerous place. Do NOT go to THPRD. Did so for ten years, it is slowly crumbling to death. Get out while you can. It's too late once they get you.

And sometimes too hot from the heat when it's cold out. So temperature control is a negative. My other negative is when you take classes, or have your kids in classes there, you can't choose the teacher. I totally get that they don't want people basing enrollment on a teacher, but for things like gymnastics and dance, teachers spend the first few weeks JUST assessing kids for their ability and skill level. That wouldn't be necessary if they knew the kids already. So please allow us to choose teachers!! The positive: even though we can't choose teachers, we have NEVER had a bad teacher for the kids. My daughter had been taking classes here for a year now and we have loved them all. Every teacher genuinely cares for the kids and my kids have had a blast. I love being able to do gymnastics and dance here without the super competitive nature that the academies push. I LOVE the playground here. It's amazing. So much fun for big and little kids alike. They do have separate toddler and "big kid" play structures, but no one really minds which is which. The kids just play! I LOVE THPRD and Cedar Hills Rec. Definitely have a great set of people here!

My organization has used Hidden Creek for several years now, and when we started working with them,…read morethey were adjustable and easy to work with. However, we had our annual event this year at Hidden Creek and the experience was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. First of all, they're very strict about anyone even entering the building before the time designated as the starting time. I don't expect them to open the doors of the banquet hall before the starting period that we paid for, but they wouldn't even let us in the building. They would not let us bring any of our materials into the building, and they told us we were not allowed to even unload our materials outside of the door so that once the door to the building opened, things would be unpacked and ready to set up. I was told it was a safety matter, but the materials we unpacked were not in front of the door, but well to the side of the entrance. They enforce those rules very strictly and in a manner that is not particularly friendly. Earlier this year, we held a different event at Hidden Creek, in other words different than the annual event I'm writing about, and they wouldn't even let us look into the room we had rented until the time began that we had paid for. They said that the room was down a hall we hadn't paid to enter, so we were not allowed to look in the room. The facility itself is beautiful, light, spacious, and well appointed. But that does not make up for their overly stringent regulations. For example, in the event I planned, we had to add some speakers to our program, so I asked if I could extend our time by half an hour so we could clean up in time. But they would not allow us to add time, even though I had made that request well before the day of the event. It was not a last-minute request, and, as indicated, I was aware there would an extra charge for an extra half-hour. So I thought we'll just clean up faster (which we did). But unfortunately, our caterers, who were P.F. Chang's, were very late in setting up the lunch, in fact, 45 minutes late, so we had to start our program late. But even with all of that, we worked very fast and managed to finish the cleanup by just half an hour after the time had expired for us to be there. They had no other event after us, and so we did not inconvenience them. Further, there is no indication on the papers that I signed before the event that there was a late fee if we exceeded the time we were in the room. All the paperwork says is that there's a $250 damage fee. But there was no damage to the hall. I'm not arguing that there should have been no fee for leaving the venue late, I just feel that when the total price for each hour is $150, and we reserved the hall for five hours, that it is exorbitant to charge $250. I requested a reduced fee, especially because our lateness was due to our caterer being so late, which PF Chang's recognized and compensated us for, but I got a solid No. They said the contract stipulates a late fee, but as indicated above, that is not true, it stipulates a damage fee. The director of events at Hidden Creek is lovely to work with. She has always done everything possible to make our experience a good one. And I do not hold her responsible for the stringency of the regulations. I am merely saying that the whole issue of charging so much money for being there 30 minutes extra to clean up, especially when the reason our event went late is because our cater was late, is unconscionable. I recommend selecting a different venue for your event unless you want to jump through numerous hoops only to be dissappointed, frustrated and overcharged in the end.

The $276 bill had a ledger filled with false charges and just months later was $3635 Their attorney told me if I didn't pay they would increase it by hundreds of dollars every day and they would foreclose on my home which they were already legally entitled to do. Mountain Park HOA is overseen by the same attorney at Tanglewood. This law firm routinely has a business model of going after the homeowners they represent and foreclosing on their homes. In my case, a $276 bill was falsely escalated to nearly $3700 which does not include the court fees and other expenses I incurred in trying to figure this out. Although mountain Park knew it was an innocent mistake, they refused to allow me to pay them and work with me directly. They knew just how much the attorney was charging me, and had no compunction in moving forward with a lawsuit to take my home. Further, they have done this two dozens of people in the last 10 years. It is my sentiment that the mountain park HOA should be disbanded/dissolved by the owners, and the land and clubhouse donated to the city for tax break for the residents here. The attorney over this HOA would not want this to happen because these HOA's are their stocked pond. They specifically target people who own their homes, and have no way to fight them--low income. My housing experience here has been utterly cruel and in no way does it reflect fair housing. HOAs don't have a great deal of regulation in Oregon and so they get away with things like this. Also, my neighbors, aren't aware of what they did to me--so now you know. At a minimum, an exclusive club would send you an orientation, or maybe even leave a nice welcome basket at your front door, they would be polite when you called them, and they would work with you. Instead, they showed me the utmost cruelty and put me in a dire financial situation--as intended. Let's contact the city manager and ask them to help us donate the land. (503) 635-0215
