Easily some of my favorite desserts in Paris. Their hours are a bit funky and didn't really fit in our travel plans, otherwise I would have came more than once. We got here around 5PM or so even though their hours said they closed at 6 - we weren't allowed to eat inside since they said they were closed? So we got some forks and stood outside and ate. No big deal! If you didn't know Aoki worked at Jean Millet's and Pierre Couderc's restaurants. He also worked at a Fredy Giardets (3 michelin stars) in Switzerland. So you know that he knows what he's doing. We didn't really get far with our French and they didn't know English well. So good old pointing and thumbs up worked fine for us as well as hand gestures. I loved the matcha/red bean cake thing we got along with the Yuzu tart. Man, that Yuzu was GOOD. My husband who is not a fan of tart somehow DEVOURED that thing. By virtue of it being open on a Sunday, this was our first patisserie stop after landing in Paris. It's a small shop with a few tables where you can sit and enjoy your goodies and also order tea or coffee. We ordered a salted caramel tart and the Bamboo (matcha green tea opera), and a pot of green tea. They were out of the black sesame eclair, which we had wanted to try. The caramel tart was a little too salty, which is a shame because the caramel was plentiful and exactly the right texture -- on the thick side but not too thick. The Bamboo was light and refreshing, and not overly sweet. We got a box of macarons to go and we were disappointed. The flavors were so subtle, we could barely discern one from the next, and the texture was a bit soft, almost soggy. The shop is closer to the Les Gobelins metro stop than to Port Royal. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. All of the cakes and pastries are a piece of art and all of the flavors are just incredible. I felt like a kid in the candy store except I'm a grown up in a bakery! Hehe. This bakery has an Asian twist with special Asian flavors like green tea, azuki bean, Yuzu, black sesame and etc. The macaroons have such intense flavor. It's just amazing. Also the green tea eclairs, creme cakes are mouth watering. Everything is just so good that I can prolly eat it all if I wasn't worried about getting fat hehe. It's a must try!! Pastry is an art! Those who are familiar with japan know how much nihonjin are diggin' french food. As a parisian i was amazed to see bakeries in every corner in tokyo. Good but still no match to the real thing! Anyway today I popped into the Sadaharu Aoki store on Boulevard de Port-Royal (between Port-Royal stop and Les Gobelins stop) and gave it a try. I wont deny the 3 cute saleswomen were another reason ^_^ And surprise!! Their macarons are pretty good so if you happen to be around you know what to do. Don't forget the kudos! read more

We came here looking for the green tea croissants, found one LEFT! However it wasn't the one we wanted but we tried it & some of the pastries anyways. We also bought a lot of different boxes of chocolates to take home. They were packaged so pretty, I just couldn't resist. They were also fair priced. The croissant wasn't anything too special but we also tried the bamboo and other matcha item that had a macaron on top, i believe it was called Zen. They both had strong matcha flavors but we liked Zen more because of the sponge cake on the bottom. The service provided by the employees here was great & we were served water and given a drink menu for dining in. This spot is located at the corner of a street with windows next to the tables. A great photo op spot and dessert stop for bring home souvenirs and trying some yummy treats. read more

This is one of the shops run by a Japanese guy who has pastry shops in Japan and Europe. I discovered the Port Royal bakery because of a friend working there. The desserts are either unique creations or traditional French pastries with an Asian touch and often Asian ingredients to substitute the usual ones. For example, instead of chocolate in your eclair, you may find green tea cream. Sesame seeds, matcha and other unexpected ingredients are used to make pastries that have a distinctive taste. The pastries are well mastered, as the people who prepare them have studied the art and I believe there are separate people in charge of the decoration of the pastries. Needless to say, the presentation is magnificent. Honestly though, I prefer the presentation to the actual flavor as some of the pastries take getting used to. To me it's a little bit too much, a little too different but this is not a reason not to try it as everyone's personal tastes differ. Lots of people really enjoy it. I have been inside the kitchen and can say it is impeccably clean. I did notice that the kitchen personnel seemed overworked. I would still say that Aoki's is worth a visit if you are tired of typical pastries and want something with a fresher twist. Do not expect to taste something you have had before! read more

I do have a small qualm with the too-subtle chocolates though. The quality is top notch so my qualm can be overlooked - I just like strong flavors so it is a preference and not a quality issue. People describe the pastries as "looking too good to eat" and that is true in more ways than one. The pastries truly look stunning. We probably spent 10-15 minutes pacing in front of the case trying to decide on what to buy. But neither of them tasted as good as they looked. A black sesame eclair was overly savory for me. Maybe I just don't like black sesame sweets. A green-tea opera cake was fascinating, but ultimately not as good as a regular, excellently-executed, opera cake would have been. Macarons, however, were the best I've ever had. read more

The selection is a but small, their products are a bit sweeter than I would have liked, and the price is definitely on the higher side (i spent like $50 each time), but it's still a pretty good place for a visit every once in a while read more

I was so happy to discover that this Aoki Sadaharu shop was just down the street from my vacation apartment. The store isn't large but it's sleek and modern and beautiful and everything is perfectly placed. I also love their packaging - you feel like you bought something special (and you did) when you walk out of there. The croissants were lovely, though they are on the sweeter side than some, but that makes sense since it's a pastry shop. I'd love to say that I tried a bunch of their desserts but I had been dreaming about their salted caramel tart for months before I came to Paris and was happy to discover that it more than lived up to my expectations so I got it every time I came by. I did try a bite of the lemon tart, and that was delicious as well, you've gotta be a fan of tart lemon desserts for that one though - no mild lemon flavors there. read more

The combination of flavours and textures in each delicately formed cake makes this one of my favourite patisseries in Paris. After careful deliberation, I finally settled on a blackcurrant/praline creation that took me even longer to eat as it did to choose. At around 6 euros a piece, it's not cheap, but when you carefully inspect every aspect of that lovingly created masterpiece, you see the creativity, flair and pure passion tenderly poured into its construction. I got the beautiful box of chocolate which looks like make-up for a friend, and I got two pieces of delicious pieces of macarons for myself (the flavors are green tea and another type of tea). The macarons are just as soft and delicious as any other macaron-specialty shop I've been to. I am not sure about the chocolate yet. I loved the hospitality of the employees and free samplers of their pastries. It actually got me hooked to buy black sesame pastry puff sticks. I had a piece of cheesecake and a cup of cappuccino (they referred me to something else on the menu thats similar to cappuccino/latte) inside the shop, and took some macarons, a mille feuille, and some chocolatey macarons to go. There was a small fruit fly flying around my food that annoyed me a little. Overall, I like their products so I know I'm coming back when I'm in town. Ordering in English seemed a little bit challenging so I switched to Japanese to talk to them. I also liked how the location in Paris was cheaper than the one in Tokyo. My new discovery of the vist was hojicha macaron. It sounded too boring, but it turned out to be the best macaron from here. Their rose macaron tasted too strawberry-ish. read more

Amazing Franco-Japanese patisserie. I thought this place was a jewellery shop until I got right up to the windows and found that the brightly coloured strings of beads were in fact tiny pastries. Lots of matcha and green tea flavours mixed with chocolate and creme patisserie. A fabulous mariage between two countries who take their designer patisserie equally seriously. read more

One of my most favorite in Paris for desserts and sweeties. The macaron is very delicious, not to sweet with special flavors. Matcha, Genmaicha, Hojicha, Yuzu, Sesame, Caramel Beurre Sale are the must-check flavors. Everything with matcha here is awesome !! Must check in in Paris read more
