The pool of juror's checks in and waits in the juror's lounge, while being entertained with quick films about the process. They were actually informative, despite my snarky comment. The Federal Court only brings in a selected pool of people, so you're not sitting with countless others waiting and waiting. Once inside the courtroom, after everyone is sworn in, and jury selection happens, the judge is very clear about conduct, breaks, and length of service. The court's clerks and staff are extremely nice, helpful, and go out of their way to make the jurors feel at ease. Parking at a selected lot is validated, and they gladly provide a letter for your employer. It was a great experience, and I would gladly go back to serve again.

Background Checks, Rapbacks and Sex Offender Registry - DOJ Hits It On All Pistons…read more SITREP My job functions as an investigator trainer or legal policy research project coordinator involves working with the California Department of Justice (DOJ). SETUP Among the many sections in the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) where I work, there is the Caregiver Background Check Bureau (CBCB). In this section, we manage background check process for licensed caregivers, their employees, specified volunteers and non-client adults residing in a facility. CBCB Functions Individuals who want to work in Community Care Licensed facilities will submit their fingerprints to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) via livescan - a digital hand-scanning process. All licensing categories (Adult Care, Child Care, Elderly, etc.) require a California Criminal History and a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) check. If an individual is associated to any facility serving children then a Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) check is also performed. So bottomline: before individual can obtain a community care license, provide services, work or reside in any of our licensed-facilities, they must receive a criminal record clearance or an exemption from the clearance provisions governed by statutes, regulations and CCLD's own internal policies. TRUSTLINE Trustline is a service the State of California provides to parents and family members who want to know if a potential caregiver for their child or disabled relative has a criminal background. These are situations where they have chosen not to use licensed care but still want their nanny, IHSS provider, etc fingerprinted and cleared through DOJ and CCL. If they are cleared the name is put on a Trustline Registry. So again - as in licensed care - in these exempt-care scenarios, if they have a criminal history such that no clearance is granted then the agencies that maintain a Trustline Registry for child care and/or the local entities that administer employment clearances for IHSS workers are notified. LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY INITIATIVES DOJ is a significant partner in my own work interests and those of my department in meeting the public demands and the resulting legislative mandates that upgrade and enhance the background check process. Their expertise and guidance in the criminal background check process is critical to our own department's success, and for that I am grateful. THE LOWDOWN The DOJ provides us with the critical background information we need to make sure that the facilities we license and the people that work their will protect the health & safety of clients in care, and not themselves pose harm to those clients.

KNOWLEDGE is…read more POWER!!! Sex Offenders are Scum in my eyes. Did you know that a very, very, very small percentage of that scum is actually successfully rehabilitated? Yes, sadly, many repeat offenders who ruin people's lives. With all my heart, I urge parents especially and all adults to visit Megan's law web site. It is directly affiliated with the CA General Attorney's office. Simply read the terms of use, check the box and begin your search for scummy perverts in your area. You just might be living right next door to one. Seriously. There are many search options: My first search was done by address; typed in my address to see if scum lives near my family. Yup...got scum living in my neighborhood; good to know. * * * Keep in mind, scum often looks like the average person. As my young adult daughter and her friends said when seeing scum photos: "They look so normal." That simply goes to show that you simply never know who the scum is...be alert. Other avenues offered to do searches include: By: Zip Code County and Near Parks and Schools A map is shown on the computer screen. Click on the blue spots and the offender's photo, exact address, physical stats AND crime appear. Yay- knowledge IS power! The site also hosts a wealth of information: * Facts and Myths about the scum * What you can to protect your children * Sex Offender Registration and Exclusion Information Interesting, as noted via the site, about 25% of the scum is excluded from being posted on the site due to the nature of their sexual offense. ...Too bad, because I feel any sexual crime is noteworthy. Sexual Scumbags Ruin Lives. Protect our little angels. Please visit this site and tell your family, friends and neighbors to do so. * * * Beware of this too...PLEASE do your homework before sending your children to businesses/programs that cater to children such as Martial Arts, Gymnastics, etc. Sadly, many predators choose those professions for a reason. I am not saying they all do by any means, yet some do ...fact. A very sad and disturbing fact.
