MEPS building

I had a great experience today at MEPS Sacramento! I was so nervous leading up to my appointment because I did a ton of research and heard that it can be stressful, uncomfortable and uncertain. Although these things are somewhat true the staff really has your best interest at heart and guide you through every step of the way! Trust me you won't be the only nervous one there almost everyone I saw was shaking in their boots lol, I'm 27 and joining the navy for context. A lot of the applicants are kids away from home doing a big and scary thing for the first time so if you have any form of confidence you will blend right in. The key is to not stand out and do anything out of the ordinary, just listen to what they're asking you to do and keep responses to a minimum (yes sir no sir yes ma'am no ma'am) they seem grumpy and snappy at first but when they realize you're listening and obeying you will get on their good side. The same 5-7 people process you every step of the way through multiple stages and they will start to remember your face, I noticed I was being treated very kindly because I hadn't messed up anything they asked me to do and just cooperated to the best of my ability. I drank a ton of water to prep for the urinalysis but it took about 2 hours after entering the building to get to the urine sample portion so I actually had to go right when I got in and emptied about 2/3 of what I had in me and punched off the rest to save for the sample lol. We first arrived at about 5:30 and got in about 6am after briefing outside and going through metal detectors, take off hoodies and belts and everything in your pockets and place in the provided bins except your loose ID in your right pocket. Once we were in we started in medical and they took blood pressure first (I barely passed first try but they are courteous and allow you multiple tries over the course of the morning to lower your rate if needed) after this it's important to remain attentive for your name and where to sit, they sat me in orange chairs for hearing test next, then for vision until about 7:45am. After this we were sent to wait in the medical briefing room (basically a meeting room) we were all briefed on the day and what to expect until about 8:20am. Then they asked who needs to pee and about half of us raised our hands. We got in line for the breathalyzer test and immediately went to wait to pee. I was one of the first to go thankfully because I don't think I could hold it any longer. It sucked to have to pee so bad for so long but it helped because I'm a shy pee'er but was able to immediately go regardless of them staring at it leaving your body lol. Then it moves pretty quick to blood draw, medical interview which wasn't bad at all and I have a few things that I was worried about, just stick to what your recruiter told you to say. I was worried about that but it worked just fine (10am). Then you wait again for everyone to catch up and then finally you go to the same doctor to perform the mobility test in your underwear (not as weird as I expected everyone does it just remember that) you duck walk for only like 6 steps in total and everything was very quick and basic. After that you're cleared to go to lunch and once you eat you're cleared to go speak with your branch liaison and finalize everything and your day is done! Then it's just waiting for everyone to finish and your shuttle to pick you up. Just listen to everyone and everything and be polite and you'll do just fine

Entrance to your future. Dreams are made of and carried on.

When you first arrive, you are subjected to a security search. I had to empty my pockets, and the security guard ran a magnetic wand through my entire body and shoes. It's a Federal building after all. I went on a Tuesday around 10 a.m. without an appointment since I was having an issue completing an online application. After about 30 minutes, I was able to get an appointment and plenty of information to get my application completed. Way better than the DMV.

I went to be evaluated to get back on disability after losing my job due to my disability. I was asked some double digit addition questions and I assume I was correct, because I'm suddenly not disabled.... Then I went to my doctor to get him to write a letter that supersedes the misdiagnosis by the person from social security. Once I told him according to social security I'm apparently not disabled he disagreed and wrote me a lengthy letter citing my many deficiencies as the need for disability because of my coma. How is social security going to give disability to people who don't need it, then when a legitimate disabled adult comes to your office, you deny him?
