This is my first time at this location. There was no sign or any warning from the security that we are not allow to do a walk in , (only appointment ). As I got my number waiting in the lobby, I was also filling out documentation online to proceed my social security cards. I did not hear my number call out but I saw my number on the screen. I got to the desk #15 a black male worker (I think he is having a horrible day , but still I don't need you give off that bad energy to a client. Like a saying goes " if you don't like the job leave..") I kindly told him I did not hear my number being called from the intercom. He proceed with a rude attitude stating he called me 5 minutes ago (clearly I did not hear it but saw on the tv). He handed me a paper to call a number to set appointment. Accompanied my dad to correct an error with his Social Security information. Based on his online application for a replacement card, it said to just to bring the necessary documents (US Passport) to the office in person to show within 45 days in order to complete the request. It said they "don't schedule appointments to complete Social Security card applications. However, we can complete your in-office interview quickly because you submitted your application online." Located on Massie Circle off of Mack Road past the South Sac Division California Highway Patrol, hotels, etc. Parking lot does fill up, street/curb parking as well. Upon arriving, there were two A-frames, one with Covid notices and dropbox hours, and another saying stand in this line if you have an appointment. If you don't scan the QR code, go to the website, or call the number (and schedule an appointment if needed). A bit confusing! Open at 9:00 AM, already a long line in the cold weather. Security guy was very no-nonsense but kind (this is a federal building so there is a metal detector). We didn't have/make an appointment (because of the instructions given after filling out the online application) but could self check-in at the kiosk where they assigned a number like DMV then they call you based on which window is available. We sat/waited a long time but finally were called to the window. The young lady who assisted was very nice and that part was efficient. We didn't leave until 12:30 PM though, and with all the winter germs it was best to mask up and warm layers meant for outside were less and less useful once indoors with so many other people. read more

We had to go here three times related to issues about my mom's passing. Let's face it, it's not fun to go to the SSA office and everybody is stressing to some degree here. I can't think of anything much more stressful than bereavement and bureaucracy but here we are and this is where you need to go at certain times. Every time the staff and security was helpful. I mean genuinely helpful and kind. It's really appreciated. The last time I kinda lost it and when I felt the lady wasn't hearing me I said really loud, "We've been here two other times we are not going to come back. My Dad is bereaved!" And yes everyone stared. Awkward. But she gave it 110% and we got the answer we needed and hopefully we won't have to come back. No offense. There is a bit of a wait, expect it if you don't have an appointment. This is in a kind of remote location near hwy 99, and by a hotel, but google gps got us there fairly ok. I would definitely plan ahead and build some time in because I made a wrong turn a couple times and with the big highways around here it can add on the time. Free and ample parking. A really good location and staff. When you check in you need to input your ssa number at a console and you will get a number. You then get called to check in and then later you will get called to handle your issue. read more

The employee working the window at Social Security was a piece of work...and I don't even think it was intentional. I was forced to visit a SSA office to change my name after marriage. I gave two stars because security was friendly and welcoming. Once I got inside the building, it was a different story. There was a long line of people outside the building at 9AM. Once you reach the front of the outside line you go through security. After security, you enter your information at a machine and receive a ticket print out. There is indoor seating while you wait for your number. They have numerous employees working behind individual windows. After my number was called, I went to the employee's window. First he keeps telling me that my Driver's License picture is not me. To which I repeatedly say it is. Only after do I say, "make up", does he nod and smile. (I had my Social Security Card, Driver's License, Marriage Certificate, and U.S. Passport, which are ALL documents showing my name...) This employee was unable to speak up at all. The entire time I kept saying, "I can't hear you!". In response, he would pull down his mask, and I could eventually piece together what he was saying. After many minutes of typing, he says, "That's it". Since no information was provided to me, I ask, "Will I get a new card in the mail?". Then he laughs and says, "Oh! I thought you were applying for citizenship!". Uh...what? I told you when I sat down I'm getting my name changed for marriage. He even confirmed what my new last name would be in the beginning. I guess because I'm Asian, I had to be applying for citizenship? My family has been citizens of the U.S. for over a hundred years, but I guess I'm lucky and get to have a SSA employee stereotyping me on my day off work. I'm very much questioning the adeptness of this employee's ability to do his job. (After I asked him about a new card, he printed me a paper saying I'd get it in the mail.) We will see if I actually get a new card in a couple weeks. read more

He asked if I had a belt or anything in my pockets. Then, he said most people would raise their shirt to show that they did not have a belt on. SSA website says if u retire in the middle of the year ur income prior 2 retirement doesn't count. The office staff including the manager kept telling me it counts. Why should our income count before retirement. Yes I do understand after u retire there is only a certain amount u can make if u retire in the middle of the year. I had to stop by this office to drop off pay stubs, because apparently they are still in the 90s where they don't offer a way to upload documents! When I arrived, there were about 30 people in line. It took about an hour for me to reach the front door and check in. After checking in, it took another 15 minutes to get seen. They made copies of my pay stubs and that was it! It would have been so much easier and cut down on wait if they offer a way to upload documents! I was not expecting to wait. Just prepared that the wait is worse than the DMV. read more

The entrance process involves waiting for the security guard, who, while giving a federal building warning, also questions visitors about metals or weapons. Unfortunately, the language barrier seems to lead to frustration, as witnessed with two older Asian ladies. One was able to navigate with basic English, but the other faced challenges. The security guard's response when a one of the older lady asked to translate, "why did you walk away from her?" Additionally, observing differing treatment for a non-Asian family raised concerns about consistency in the security procedures. The workers behind the counter are wonderful. I was in this office 3/22 around 11AM. I would rate my overall experience at this Social Security office a 4.25 Security gets a 5 out of 5. I really liked both of the Security officers. I shared a laugh with the one that went through my bag. When he inspected my glasses case he couldn't get my glasses back in and I heard him say, under his breath, "Get back in your home" I knew EXACTLY the movie he was referencing so I said "Are you too good for your home?" The guard popped his head up with a big smile on his face and we laughed and shared a few more lines from the comedy classic , Happy Gilmore. The next guard complimented me on my fit (respectfully) and told me that he designed some Nikes that were an inverse of the ones I had on. He directed me to the station to check in at the office. Once I was assigned a number and waiting the same guard came up and showed me the shoes he designed on Nike's site via his phone. People complaining on yelp and google that this office takes security too seriously are childish and naive about our country and mass shooting statistics. It isn't hard to imagine a scenario in which a disappointed, recently denied benefits member of society decides to exact some sort of revenge. I do not want to get shot by a disgruntled, troubled soul while I am in the building. If you are going to get huffy or embarrassed about guards going through your bag/ purse then make sure it only has your wallet keys and glasses in it. If you're going to get huffy about security "bossing" you around then pay attention to the details and anticipate what security wants from you. I saw the line on the walkway and understood it to mean that I should stop there until directed by security to proceed. The guards were polite, friendly, thorough and professional. 5 out of 5. Social Security gets a 3 out of 5. They wouldn't reissue me my social security card based on not having a valid CA ID/DL. I had on me my temporary CA DL, an expired out of state DL, a certified copy of my birth certificate, the stub to my original SSN Card, a September 2023 jury summons, a January 2024 county voter office mailing, a utility bill with my name, my college ID, my college diploma, my high school diploma, my kindergarten, 8th grade and 12th grade yearbooks. It is clear that I am me and yet they wouldn't issue me my card. I understand that rules are rules but surely the point is to feel secure that I am me and all of that documentation shows I am me so I have to give a 3 out of 5 for inflexibility, for not having an exception to their rules. The service I received was both inappropriate and deeply distressing on my recent visit at this location. Upon my arrival at the office, the security guard at the front entrance treated me in a manner that I found rude and unprofessional. When I placed my hands in my pocket to remove my personal belongings, the guard reacted as if I were a criminal, subjecting me to unnecessary and humiliating scrutiny. Despite being an educated 72-year-old senior, I was lectured condescendingly about visiting a federal building, a manner more suited to addressing a young child than an adult. He feels threatened for apparently no reason , maybe to show his authority & power. Furthermore, while I waited to be attended, I observed the same security guard displaying a markedly different attitude towards other visitors, particularly those from his own community. His behavior was friendly and accommodating towards them, which stood in stark contrast to his demeanor towards me. This clear display of favoritism and racial bias was both offensive and unacceptable.I believe that all individuals, regardless of age or race, should be treated with respect and dignity, especially in public service environments. The conduct of this security staff member was not only unprofessional but also discriminatory. I strongly urge SSA take immediate action to address this matter. I read most negative reviews at this location were clearly directed at this one particular individual. Obviously nothing is being done for him to continue patronizing others to this date. My assumption is that his higher ups are protecting him. Therefore I will address this matter to SSA headquarters! He needs retraining on basic social etiquette and non-discriminatory behavior instead of lecturing others on behavior at Federal building! Horrible service! Checked in to update citizenship along with my wife. I got called first and was told that I'll be called again. My wife was called next to a different window and got her citizenhip updated in less than 10 mins. Waited for more than 2 hours. Approached the same window and asked what was the delay and then he told me I checked in wrong and I just had to wait to have my name called. If only he told me ahead that was the case, it would have been clearer to me. If you are able to go to a different branch, please do so! The customer service here is horrible. I am still in disbelief of how poorly they treat their customers. I called the customer service line to get help and help my grandma who is an elderly woman and the techs hung up on me twice. I understand that with Covid the call volume is high and a.nit frustrating but being in the customer service rep field you should be able to help all your customers as much as you can and not make it worse during this time of pandemic. This has got to be the worst office ever. Trying to change direct deposit for my non English speaking mom has been the worst experience ever. The staff at the office or the reps that do answer your calls are so rude and have no compassion or understanding for people that don't speak, read or write English at all. Got an interpreter asking my mom to read and spell when she's illiterate. They don't allow me to interpret at all. Guy rep got super frustrated because my mom didn't understand his question and just hung up on her. No way to meet someone in person. There has to be a better system then this for the elders. i am writing this three star review to counter some of the 'i would leave zero stars if i could' reviews. this is basically the welfare office. this is just the way it is, welcome to the bureaucracy that everyone on welfare experiences. as for this particular office, this is just about as good as it gets when it comes to welfare, except they were still wearing masks when i went there a few weeks ago. i think of the security men like the TSA, you can't really blame them for protecting soft targets like a welfare office. the number system works fine and is visible from everywhere in the lobby. the clerk who helped was indeed gruff but i ended up with what i needed, and you can't really expect a cheery attitude from those within the bureaucracy. they deal with impatient and irritated people all day, and are probably understaffed. those complaining about this office perhaps should get used to it, because there is no alternative. read more

Come into the office and grab a number, and the representatives will gladly help you out on your retirement, survivor, disability questions that you may have. SSA does have plenty of parking spaces at this locations, but when it does get busy don't be surprised if you may find yourself parking on the street. When you come in you will have to walk through a metal detector, for the safety of the public and workers already within the building. from their you will proceed to the check in machine we have located within the lobby, where you will select either general inquiry or that you have a appt. it will ask for your last 4 digits of your social. From there the screening representatives will check you into our systems to notify everyone in the office, what exactly you are trying to complete during your visit at SSA. All representative is more than willing and knowledgable to go above and beyond their duty to help you complete all actions. You wait time always varies on how the customer traffic flow, when you first walk into the office (highly recommend for customers to come in during the morning). Once finished with the check in prcess, then grab a seat while waiting for your number to be called, and enjoy your visit at SSA. read more

Get there early. We lined up half an hour before they opened and got out half an hour after the doors opened. Screening is at the TSA level but they are professional and courteous. If you are in a wheelchair you will get the wand and not the metal detector. Make it easy on yourself and leave all non-essentials in the car. This includes food. Overall, if you are courteous you can expect the same. They're doing a tedious job and they have to deal with people of all moods. read more

I had a very good experience. I did not get to finish what I went there for, error with paperwork on my end but everyone was very helpful and friendly. There is a very thorough security screening, think TSA. I thought it was all done in a friendly and quick way. Do know that if you bring a baby in a stroller or carseat, you will be asked to remove them during this check in. The wait once inside is very short. Check the weather prior to coming. You will be asked to wait outside in the sun as the line for security check is long and the most time consuming part. I got there 30 minutes after opening and waited outside 40 minutes. Small, kinda personal like all in my space waiting area. The benches are a bit to close for me, but other wise clean. There's lots of small chatter in the back ground. The loudest thing is the over head speaker. I do notice that they have three officers here, but at the Folsom office there are only two. Not sure if there's a reason for it or not.. Upon entering the officers are friendly made small talk and smiled. (oh it just could've been me) Lol my secrets! Anyways the detector here you don't have to remove your shoes, belt or earrings. Felt kinda nice not having to totally undress all the way... I asked why not and one of the officers stated 'they've come along ways'.. Okay by me I was not at all complaining. Restrooms are close and visual without leaving your seat. They have two monitors up on the walls with lots of information. They have only one check in machine and I just can imagine when its busy how long the line gets. I thought it was cool that they actually displayed a picture of the #POTUS and Vic~President Joe Biden on the wall. I would take a pic, but I don't believe you are allowed to take them in here. I haven't seen a sign here, but I have seen it at the other office. They have only 7 counseling windows and because of the space they are not very private. Anyone ear hustling wouldn't have to hustle to hard to hear someone's convo. Parking lot is average, but I'm sure it can fill up fast. There is additional parking close by on the surrounding streets if need be...At no cost of course.. Well as always my timing is always right on and I'm so happy I waited to finish my review. Up until this point things were going smoothly, checked in and only waited about 10 minutes before my number was called. Then I get to speak with someone, but first let me tell you. I called my old office to make sure I could do what I needed to come in for. I was told yes by a young lady by the name of Pha. Pha said yes it could but I had to come to this office. So I'm here, happily! Now does anyone besides me hate when you get someone that refuses to help you get what you need to have done. Refuse to be of any assistance at all. The young man, didn't get his name(wish I had) Even after asking me who told me and having me wait for almost 30 minutes. I thought that he would have took the time and at least called and spoke with Pha. But, that didn't happen. He told me he spoke with a co-worker and that was it!! Can't be done, point blank! I was so shocked to say the least!! I left and called back at the Folsom office and spoke to Pha again to be told she did not know why the young man refuse to take care of the situation and she told me to just come out tomorrow too the Folsom office and they would take care of everything. Worst office ever. My sons claim was approved from 2014 in 2017 through a judge. They still refuse to pay the claim. They never sent a letter stating what documents I needed to bring instead I had to go to the office or call to check on the status of his claim only to be told that they never received any of the requested paperwork. This has gone on for years and the excuse they still give is that all information was not turned in. The worker had me fill out a new claim and I wondered why. NOW I know. It was to further distract from his initial claim. Now no one knows what I'm talking about. They owe my son from 2014-2019. Even the lawyers I worked with say they have no clue as to why they refuse to pay his claim when the Judge found him fully favorable. I even went out and talked to another lawyer who even stated that the social security office on massie court acts like it's there money and in fact he gets a lot of people complaining about this office. And in his words MASSIE COURT SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST AND THEY NEED TO DO A OVERHAUL OF THE WHOLE OFFICE OR SHUT IT DOWN!!!! And to this day they still refuse to pay the claim ,and every time I call to see what they say they always give a different reason of why the claim wasn't paid. Fucken hate this place. I can just imagine how many other people that are out there who they did this same bullshit to. This place has changed A LOT since my last visit back in 2011. Thus, the reason why I've decided to write a review. The check-in system before you go in, is the same, they check you stuff: no water, you can bring a water bottle and fill it up inside but thats it. Otherwise you have to pour it out outside. In terms of actually checking in, if you get there in the morning they will ahve a rep help you in the check-in kiosk and quickly usher you in to be seen almost right away. Thats assuming you get there at 9 am when they open the doors. I guess they do this because they know that once the afternoon hits, the lines get backed up. So, if you are there early you are most likely to be seen almost right away which was the case for me. Overall, I have a great impression of not just the staff but also the reps there, specifically CARMELA- she is wonderful, amazing, helpful and bilingual! She isn't like other reps that act all high and mighty, she is really down to earth and her calm way of being really calms you down. She had a great smile and treated us with respect. The social workers are ok. I just have a problem with the security guards. Unfortunately, I believe I've experience discrimination by one of the guards (he's bald and chubby/overweight). I took my grandparents here for some papers because they don't now English so I was interpreting, and so we waited outside the building "in line" for our turn for the TSA-like procedure. A caucasian woman walked up to me and asked if I was in line, I told her I am. Then she proceeds to walk behind my grandparents to line up. But then one of the security guards gestured at the woman and said "Ma'am can you come here" and she followed. She walked to him and I believe the security guard gave her a "free pass" up the line. I heard her said, "But I thought they were in line?" And then the security guard, gave her a *wink* and clicked his tongue. It was shocking because I believe he just assumed we did not know English enough to know about his "gestures." But when it was our turn for the procedure it seems like he talked to us in a different tone than the woman. As though he had a grudge against us. I didn't know these types of racism and discrimination exist at government levels but this was insane! My grandpa witnessed it also but he didn't see the whole picture like I did, he asked me "how come she get to go in first?" I did not answer him since I did not want to show him the truth or he'd make a scene. read more

I would give 0 stars if i could. The office person gave me runarounds to contact SSA office on Folsom Bl. I called SSA office on Folsom Bl. and I was told to call and make an appointement with SSA office on Massie court since that area for my zip code. After several attempts, I was able to make appointment a week away. I had an appointment with SSA at 9:35 am on 12/13/21. A Caucasian security guard at the entry door treated me like I am a criminal or an illegal alien who is trying to cross US/Mexican Border and he is a security guard on US side of the fence. Once he looked at my skin color and found out my name, his behavior was very discriminatory (based on my country of origin, race, and religion), threatening and very offensive. While he seemed to be polite and nice to a Caucasian person (since he thanked both the gaurds at his exit means that he was treated with dignity and respect) and a chines guy (I heard the same guard at my exist saying good morning and how can I help you? probably since SSA manager is a chines guy too). I am proud US citizen retired from the CA State Service. This security guard should be disciplined and /or removed from this SSA office. I tried to contact the SSA Office manager, but I was told he is busy. Other people of my decent and few others have the same complaints on the reviews page. I requested name and company name of this security guard, I was declined, saying that SSA staff have no control or contact or with guards' company since they are contracted service from outside.
