Very cute local comedy club that also has classes. Came to watch a graduation class which is basically a hour long with each graduate putting on a 5 minute skit. They have snacks and drinks for sale (including alcoholic). Great way to support local inspiring artists. read more

A great place to go when you want to laugh. They mostly do improv shows, but every once in a while they have standup comedians. Anti-Cooperation League is their longest running show. A few of my favorites are: You! the Musical, Lady Business, and MRI - Masters of Rap Improv. They are constantly creating new shows, so make sure to check out their calendar to check see all the new stuff. During the week they have improv and stand up open mics, I haven't been yet but I have heard good things. They also offer improv and standup classes. Once you finish a class you get to perform on stage. The Comedy Spot is in the Lavender District, it's right next to Azul. There is very little parking in front of the venue but there's plenty a few blocks away. They have beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks and a few snacks available. There is no drink minimum (like there is at most comedy clubs). There are typically two shows on Fridays and Saturdays, you get a discount if you buy tickets for both shows. So if you go to both shows on Friday you would get a discount. It's a pretty good deal and the staff are really nice and the cast are all so talented. Definitely check it out. read more

I've done a few drop-in taste tests of improv, that are so fun! I highly recommend everyone trying it at least once. It's great for getting outside your shell and meeting a variety of cool people. Lacey, Mariam and Michelle have been the teachers I've had and they ARE AMAZING! Great facilitators of fun and creating a safe space-improv or trying something new can be scary but not here. I've also gone to Helix on Wednesdays and murder mystery shows. Great fun and such affordable entertainment. read more

Took a taste test here and it was so fun, my friend signed us up and the teacher was really encouraging and we played fun games. I thought it would be harder but it was actually fun and easy and I'll be going back! I'd never been to a show either, and she told us about shows happening so we went. First one we saw was Murder Mystery, it was ok, but I felt like it was really long. We really loved the Drunk Judges one. It was hilarious especially the second "case" they did. 2 people come up and argue about something like sweet vs salty etc and there are comedians dressed up as judges ruling. We will be coming back for more shows and definitely go do a taste test again. Thinking it would be fun with my sisters. read more

Worst establishment I have ever been to. Comedians were funny but the staff was terrible to deal with. Waiting in line to get a beer, they told us we had to lower our voices. We were not being loud at all, having a normal conversation among ourselves. The poor bartender had to practically whisper. When the comedians would engage with the audience, asking the crowd questions, we would reply and the staff felt come over and berate us like children. Disrupting the entire show. Arguing with us and threatening to kick us out. They even went as far as to harass us when we would get up to use the restroom. Not worth the $12 ticket price and wont be returning. read more

Kinda cringy, but it's cool. This place is great if you just want to get out and hear some jokes. The ambiance is good, and it usually fills up fast, so get your tickets early. They have drinks available and I think you can bring your own food too, they just don't have tables. If you're looking for something to do, try this place out at least once. A hidden gem in a not-so-hidden location, the Sacramento Comedy Spot is part of the MARRS building, a central space in midtown perfect for grabbing food and drinks before and/or after the show! They have a rotating calendar of regular improv/sketch/stand-up shows performed by local comedians throughout the week, and also offer classes if you're interested in learning how to do it yourself! We have attended various shows and especially enjoy the weekend ones, which tend to feature their more popular recurring shows. It's cool to see familiar faces from week to week, and the casts are super funny and talented. And while tickets are already quite affordable, you can get a further discount by buying a ticket to see both back-to-back shows on weekends (usually another show + Anti-Cooperation League) for only $15-20! You can buy tickets online in advance but we've never had an issue getting them at the door - sometimes it can get a bit busy but the line usually moves quickly and we can find seats despite it being an intimate venue. Because it's so small and cozy, you can sit as close or far as you like and still have a good view. There is a bar inside as well to get a drink before or between shows, with a nice variety of canned beer and beverages, and no drink minimum. All of the staff has always been friendly and welcoming, and there can be audience engagement from the host/performers but it never feels forced or mean. Everyone is there to have fun but it's still casual, unlike other expensive comedy clubs and shows. Perfect for date night or for laughs with friends, a visit to the Sac Comedy Spot is a great value for a great time! read more

I've been wanting to check out Comedy Spot for YEARS now. I was visiting Sacramento and was looking for something spontaneous to do one Friday night. My friend Mike (one of the regular preformers) had been posting on Instagram about a new show so I decided to check it out. I mean, any excuse to go to downtown or midtown. Tickets ($10) were easy to buy online, vaccination records were checked at the door, and masks were required. I always feel safe going to a venue that takes precautions and is logistically organized. Took an Uber to the venue since I was planning to drink. Plus, parking is usually a pain around here. Ordered a drink at the bar and found a front row seat to the show. Screens on either side of the stage advertise past and upcoming features. You can also see through the AV booth where the comics are preparing. Builds excitement for some reason. The show itself was great. Everything about the staff and venue is fantastic. I can't wait to come back here every time I'm in Sac! read more

Showed up on Saturday night for the Anti-Cooperation League with family visiting from out of town and we really enjoyed our time! Different kind of comedy, with a cast of people creating improv skits based on crowd interactions at the start of the show. For a $12 entry, it was such a fun and different thing to enjoy the night. Lots of laughs and truly appreciated just watching them improvise and create a show. Clean restroom, multiple cold canned beverages available. Spent a wonderful evening on a friend's birthday laughing my heart out here! We watched two shows since they had a great deal of you bought the two consecutive shows of the night, and it was so so worth it! Short Cuts felt a bit experimental but still had a good vibe, and Anti-cooperation League capped off the night with some of the funniest improv skits I've seen :) Totally appreciate that the seats were comfortably spaced apart but still felt cozy, and the staff and presenters were just so engaging all throughout the show! Brian Krall and his cast of wild characters do everything possible to tickle your funny bone. The Spot has special events, with visiting, featured stand-up comics, but don't be thinking that if you don't have an event like that possible, that the night will be any less fun. Regular routines are typically very good and run by small groups of comics who've worked together for quite some time, examples include Lady Business, Hypothechicks, and The Anti-Cooperation League, as well as a musical theater routine that is composed in an impromptu manner--and absolutely brilliant every time. The Spot also offers a plethora of classes you can take to start your own comedy career or hobby, or just improve your sense of humor. Everything from sketch, to improv, to stand-up, to satire, to comedic film or storytelling is taught and the quality of classes and instructors is very fine. You'll find a person or two or three in class who you really enjoy hanging out with as well. So go. You can't go wrong here. read more

I love to support local artists and this is a great way to do that. Shows here are fun and inexpensive! I have also completed improv 101 and 201 with Justine as an instructor. I've made friends, am getting more funny every second, and will def continue on here. Awesome place! This was our first time here and I loved it! We purchased our tickets online and the check in process was seamless. Immediately when we walked in we saw the bar, which we were excited about. The bartender was friendly and there was a great selection of craft beer. We paid $6 for a pint (in a can) of Gummy Worms by New Glory and we thought that was a steal! FYI, they have a killer beer selection. We then made our way into the area with the stage which was very cozy and intimate. There isn't a bad seat in the house! You can't take photos or videos while the performers are on but it's totally ok. At the end of the show, Rhea Butcher came out to meet everyone which was an amazing treat! PARKING: you better leave some extra time to find street parking or you can find a parking lot but you will need to pay. read more

My favorite affordable date night activity. Our favorite play/cast is a the fully improved play genre high. Although I have gone at least 6 times to that same play, it is always a different experience. The cast is so talented at improv. If you're hesitant to go to a show, I promise you it's worth it! Come early for parking, like all things in this area it can be tricky. They do have a reasonably priced snack bar with drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The venue itself is small/intimate. After a show we usually go to dinner or walk around. Although this is our most affordable date night it is also our favorite, we go every time we celebrate or need an escape from reality. 10/10 recommend. read more

Great intimate spot, showcasing local comedic talent! Just rows of chairs and a stage. No tables or food but they do sell t-shirts, and reasonably priced sodas, beers, and water. My first visit here was for a CD release party for nationally (and internationally)-recognized, JR De Guzman. I think the Comedy Spot is where his stand-up journey began (besides the classrooms at Jesuit HS). They offer classes and regular rotating shows. His show that night started off with 3 other comics who have mentored/supported him along the way. JR's set was mostly from his CD, and since I've seen his act before, I was already familiar with his totally hilarious and relatable material. He is so naturally entertaining and likeable, I highly recommend catching one of his shows! If you love live comedy but don't want to pay the high prices of a 2 drink minimum at the bigger comedy clubs, then come to the Spot and get your laugh on! read more

What a great venue! Although a little small the staff are amazing And it sounds like they have some amazing shows. I went to the gate way show hosted by Billy Anderson! A show unlike any that I've been too. This comedy show was awesome I recommend if you get the chance to see it. Absolutely go but make sure you spend the extra bucks for VIP. It is well worth it. There were soooo many people that if you didn't get a seat you had to stand in the back. Great for smokers and non smokers but be aware half way through the show you will take a brief Intermission to go smoke and come back for more laughs and entertainment! It was hilarious! I took my boyfriend here - to his first improv comedy ever- and he was smiling cheek to cheek at the end of it. I especially liked that we could pirchase tickets online in advance. However, when we got to the door, our names weren't on the list. The nice lady simply asked for a confirmation email and it was resolved. It made me wonder what the point of buying the tickets in advance was for. Lol. Anyways, it wasn't an issue - just a thought. However, I am actually still confused about the pricing and when is a good time to get a ticket. Like, is it cheaper at the door, do they take walk-ins etc? This is a review about the comedy spot training center. During Covid like most people I was craving human connection, but more than that I was craving fun. So when the threat from the virus finally began to fade and it was safe to go outside of my home again I decided to sign up for an improv class. What followed was an experience I will never forget and will be forever grateful for. My weekly improv class became more than just a respite from the chaotic world we were all coming out of but a reminder of all the good that could come. For 2 hours every week I would laugh and make jokes in a group of people that were accepting and supportive of one another. For two hours every week, I felt like I was learning again how to be in the moment, how to accept myself when I failed, and how to reconnect with the goofy side of myself that seemed to have taken a nap the year before. I realized later that not every class was going to be as supportive and kind as that first one I took coming out of covid but that regardless of who will be in your class it is a great place to work on your communication skills, talking in front of others and reconnecting with your humorous side. read more

I came for my first time tonight and the shows did not disappoint! I am not new to improv, I have even been to shows in the area, at other establishments. I must say that Comedy Spot puts on an incredible show, I laughed easier and harder at tonight's shows than I have at other improv shows around Sacramento. My husband and I will definitely be back, and we are discussing attending some of the $6 improv classes on Wednesdays. For those that are unsure of improv, try a night at Comedy Spot, it's high quality, engaging and will likely give you a belly ache from laughter! On a side note...they serve alcohol here, there is no drink purchase requirement, and you definitely DO NOT need to drink in order to enjoy the show...my party was sober and we couldn't stop laughing. read more

I'm sure this will raise a few eyebrows but I love that I can bring my 16 year old here. You can only see so many movies or go bowling so many times. We were looking for something different and when I saw the tickets were only $8 in advance, we decided live comedy was the way to go. We saw the Saturday evening Anti-cooperation League show and it was great. For this particular portion of the night; they invite a special guest, interview them for a few minutes and then use the information to produce a couple of improve skits. Sure, some of the material was R-rated but my daughter goes to public high school and I'm not in denial. She was with me on a Saturday night, I knew where she was/what she was doing and we had a blast. It's a pretty intimate setting. If you want one of the seats near the front, you would need to pay for the first couple of shows and just stay put. We were near the back but still enjoyed the show very much. We are still quoting some of the funny things we took from the show. One of my favorite moments was when someone knocked over a couple of props backstage that made a very awkward ruckus. A minute later one of the actors burst through the door wearing everything that had been knocked over, turned around and walked right back off. We'll be back! read more

I came to the Comedy Spot with a friend on a Saturday night, and it was well worth our time. We came out due to a Yelp! notice (event?) and did the $12 for two shows deal. The Facebook themed improv was 2 or 3 stars. My friend from out of town had to go up and talk about some random stuff from her life to kick-start the show, since no one else would volunteer. They did OK, but fell flat several times. The 9 o'clock show was much better and had us laughing hardily many times. The MC introduced it as a live version of SNL, but funny. While I'm a big SNL fan, this was an apt description. The stories from the guest were almost funnier than the improv. The star and funniest actor was a visitor from Chicago, she could easily be on the actual show! They were quick and didn't adhere too closely to the guest's stories, as the earlier show did. The place was packed and different parts made different sections laugh. They had the whole room going many times. Almost wish it went longer. Not sure about the cost for just the one show, but seems justified. They sell refreshments and booze, with friendly staff and chairs comfortable enough for an hour. The bathroom felt like the inside of a toolbox. The construction and decor was severely minimal. Go check out the Comedy Spot next time you say you are bored on a Saturday. read more

Nice place to come for lots of laughs if you want to come in a Monday. The comics and the crowd are both chill, yet hilarious. Open mics are held on both Sunday's and Monday's if your towards the brave side. This place sells beer which is amazingly cool. You can't beat beer and comedy in the same venue. For five dollars, you get to play a bunch of improv games, directed by Brian, and you sometimes get to work with members of the Gag Order cast. These sessions are 90 minutes and open to all skill levels. If you plan to attend a Friday show, buy tickets online in advance or show up early, because the theater isn't that large and they've been known to sell out. There are three shows on Friday night; the latter of more experimental and are free to attend with your purchase of the ticket to the first show. *** I've taken classes, and I must say that Brian (who runs the joint) is a supportive and high-energy instructor. Though I've studied improv for years, I still had a great time in his beginning class, as did the other students. In addition to the classes and shows, he offers an improv jam session every Wednesday. For five bucks, you get to hang out and play various improv games with an instructor on hand to oversee and guide. If there's another place to study improv in Sac, I don't know about it yet. But whatever the case, if you've played before or have just thought about it, consider contacting the Sacramento Comedy Club and enrolling in a class. read more
