I called in to order some new contacts, my morning started off with me ripping my last pair...so I called to order a new box, I was informed it had been two years since my last eye exam and they could not do anything until I had an eye exam. I explained that I would be happy to do that, but wondering if I could just get one pair to tie me over till I could get in for an appointment. I was told NO, there was no discussion, they were not going to help me until I came in for my $120 eye exam, even though I have been purchasing contacts on a regular basis. I have been a customer there for over 10 years and thought that my loyalty would count for something, I was not looking for a freebie, wanted to order more contacts, make an appointment for an eye exam, and in the mean time needed a pair to get me through. I sent an email to them to explaining my disappointment in their lack of effort to help me, I have not heard a thing. I was not expecting wine and flowers, but maybe a follow up phone call to an upset customer.. that makes good business sense to me. It all worked out in the end, found a great new eye Dr who only charged $70 for the same appointment they charged $120, got my contacts, and I will be happy to spend my money there :) I do not recommend the Doctor's eye clinic, it is all about how much money they can make, not the patient! It's to bad they can't "see" what good customer service is about.

I was told the frame was actually broken and a new frame needed to be ordered. The glasses were given back and I was told I would hear from them within a week. On August 6th I called and was told the frames were not in. By this time one of the arms had fallen off and the other arm was hanging by a thread. On the 13th of August I called and, once again, the frames were not in. I no longer could wear the glasses as both arms had now fallen off. I was experiencing headaches from straining my eyes. Kathleen, the person I spoke to on the phone, suggested I come in to see what they could do for me. I went in and met with Leslie. She was a lifesaver! She searched for a suitable pair of frames that my lenses would fit into. I could use these while I waited for the new frames to arrive. It was a lengthy process but she eventually found a pair. Leslie assured me she would look into the whole situation and two days later I was back in and Leslie had my new frames. She quickly replaced the lenses and I was good to go. I can't thank Leslie enough for everything she did to rectify the problem. I was so impressed with her professional manner and her determination to turn a very negative situation into a positive outcome. It's individuals like Leslie that have customers returning to Bedford Eye Care. Catherine Spears

I called the clinic a few minutes before opening time Monday morning in the hopes of seeing a Doctor within the next day or two. After detailing my problem, the young lady I was speaking with immediately set up an appointment with Dr. Paula Gaudet. Dr Gaudet was extremely thorough in her examination of my eye, and took the time to explain not only in detail , but in language I could understand, exactly what had happened, and what needed to be done moving forward. She, as well as all the other staff I encountered today, put me at ease during what I considered to be a stressful situation. I would highly recommend this clinic, and in particular Dr. Gaudet, if you are in need of an optometrist.

I had a standard exam with a contact refit, I have been wearing contacts for almost 10 years, but this did not matter. I had to pay $25 for a "trial" pair, and I am supposed to return in a few weeks to make sure they are ok before I can order some new ones. The bf also had a standard exam plus contact training as he has never worn them before. It cost him $75 for someone to tell him to put the thing in and take it out 3 times, he wasn't helpful at all. I think I could have taught him better. I understand why there is training, but why must it cost so much, especially when the dude wasn't helpful? On a side note it was painful for me to watch my bf struggling with his lenses (but yet funny too) Oh and they could not direct bill either of our medical insurance companies (Manulife, Greatwest Life) which is fine, we can send in claims but noteworthy. Don't expect to find cheap glasses here, they are all designer frames. I almost bought a pair of Burberry, then I noticed Armani, then Gucci.. you can just imagine how much I could have spent on glasses. Now you must excuse me while I go help my newly contacted bf get his lenses out.

I booked an appointment and was told that it would be $160 for an eye exam (which, already, is significantly more than most places). I explained to the receptionist that I was seeing an optometrist for a medical reason and that I wasn't interested in having my vision tested. She said she's just "the lady that answers the phone," and didn't know anything about when or how MSI could cover an optometrist appointment. She forwarded my call to another person, a manager I believe, who explained to me that as a new client it was required that everyone get an eye exam to establish a file with the clinic and that this exam was a nonnegotiable requirement. I told them I wasn't interested in an exam that I felt like I didn't need, and I was told that this was their policy. They did tell me that the exam may be cheaper depending on what was actually involved, which I appreciate, however she was similarly unable to explain to me when or how MSI covers appointments and insisted that I needed to pay for my first exam. I had her cancel my appointment. I called another optometry clinic and the receptionist there was very knowledgeable and able to explain to me in detail, and in much friendlier terms, what my options were. So, I booked an appointment with them, and worst case scenario will be saving $40 as their prices are lower. I've heard great things about Dr. Lang. It's a shame his front staff couldn't assist me.

Vogue Optical is a small Atlantic Canada optical chain with locations in most cities and bigger…read moretowns. It has two major selling points: a) it offers a 2-for-1 deal on most eyewear b) it has a wicked long guarantee against damage and destruction. In fact, Vogue will replace your glasses if they are damaged in any way for up to two years from the date of purchase. Dog chewed the frames? Covered. Kid got elbowed during a basketball game and the glasses went flying? Covered. Alien abduction and they forgot to return your glasses? Uh, not sure if that one's covered actually. Vogue's showroom holds a decent stock of frames, starting from $89 (mostly children's frames in that pricepoint) and headed upwards from there. They stock several designer names and can easily advise you as to whether the frame you are considering will work with your prescription. Vogue has saved us headaches on many occasions by advising us on unique characteristics to my son's prescription. Making them even more popular, Vogue now offers a financing option (on approved credit). For persons without insurance, this helps to make the ding in the wallet a little less painful. Vogue also co-houses an optometrist who does eye exams. Call ahead, as each optometrist's office is only staffed on certain days of the week. I'd recommend Vogue to anyone looking to upgrade their fashionable eyewear. I get great compliments on my glasses - even from strangers in the grocery store parking lot!

The lady at reception in the doctor's office was quite pleasant. And I can say the same for the doctor herself. Very nice, thorough and answered all my questions. At the end of my exam I asked for my prescription as I wanted to get new frames. I was shown (by the receptionist lady) where all the frames were and was told someone from the show room would be with me in a few minutes. I spent some time roaming the displays trying to figure out what it was I liked. After almost a half hour of wandering and having only pulled off 2 frames I thought I might like no one had come to help and I was getting frustrated. Yes, I had tried to find someone but saw no one. A few times a staffer would walk through, I'd ask for some help and I'd be told someone would be right with me. And still no one came. Eventually I was asked by Marlene if I needed any help. Finally. She was very helpful with helping me determine which frames I liked and which ones looked best on me. They carry a decent selection of frames, and some designer labels, for men, women and children. They're able to tint most lenses, and have a selection of sunglasses as well. As far as prices go they're somewhere between moderate and pricey. I wouldn't call their pricing excessive, but I wouldn't call it easy on the pocket book either. And since they have the 2 for 1 deal, it isn't so bad. The main reason I continue to use Vogue for my glasses is: -2 year warranty on the lenses -buy one, get one So, if you want two pairs of glasses to suit whatever mood or outfit you in for the day, then Vogue is a great option. Or if you just want new frames and a pair of sunglasses, they can do that too. I placed my order and was told it usually takes about a week to get the glasses back. Which isn't bad. I've experienced longer wait times at other (non-vogue) locations. While the visit overall wasn't terrible I wasn't pleased with having to wait so long to have someone help me with frames, so for that reason they get 3 stars. I haven't gone to pick my glasses up yet. Who knows on that visit they may redeem themselves and earn another star. Stay tuned!
