One thing to note is that their operating hours are not M-F. I've added a picture of their time so just make sure you if you want to eat here, that it's within their hours of operation. Their sangria was very good and not too strong. I ordered the grilled squid with garlic sauce. I posted a picture of it. They gave me alot of squid and even took out the cartilage to make it easier to consume. The taste was good and not too fishy. The food was great and not that expensive either. So glad we decided to come here.

Thus I cannot attest to their full plates. But I can with their smaller ones, and each one is a winner. Every meal in the Azores will be preceded with bread and cheese. O Corisco's was the best we had. Most places do the typical mushy and bland queso fresco that gets old quickly. Here they provided us a plate of hard cheeses and tons of bread, which were so good we didn't leave a crumb on the plate. Their Caldo Verde soup with diced linguica is pretty darn good, as is their small place of fried linguica and mushrooms. The highlight here though is their little lounge area near the big-screen television. It's not just a restaurant, but also a place to chill. Beer is cheap too. What is not to like?

Both the tuna and squid came with boiled potatoes and a lettuce, red cabbage, carrot, tomato, cucumber and onion salad. For dessert we had what they called tiramisu (3.90). It wasn't really tiramisu since it didn't have the usual ladyfinger cake but it tasted very good and I would recommend it. The house red wine was fine and 50cl was €4. The service was good, the portions large and the food came quick enough. It was a good meal- worth the €31.70 cost.

We went in the…read morewinter and sat inside a cozy dining room, but I imagine in the summer their outdoor patio can host outdoor meal service as well. Food here was excellent. We ordered the "lulas grelhadas" (grilled squid) which was a generous serving of this local seafood, and perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. Many Azorean places overcook these but Solar do Rei do Frango did a great job. The side salad served with the dish was fresh and while we thought it would make a good appetizer for two, it was in fact a large enough portion for a meal. We didn't mind, however;-) We also ordered the "Frango da Casa" (house chicken) which seemed fitting given we were eating in a restaurant named "House of the Chicken King". The roasted chicken comes with choice of sauce (mild, medium or spicy) and is served with fries. Everything was delicious and finger-licking good. Solar do Rei do Frango had a nice choice of other typical dishes but clearly the roast chicken is their specialty. They also had a nice selection of wines and half bottles. The entire meal with a half bottle of wine was less than 20 euros for the two of us. And the decor, service and overall ambience was that of a more upscale restaurant so I felt like the prices were of great value for the overall experience. We will definitely be back and recommend our guests try Solar do Rei do Frango when in the Sao Vicente area!

Wish I could say A Favorita was a favorite, but it wasn't a great experience. Went for dinner with…read morea friend and was seated quickly. The vibe is very casual and family-friendly, and felt like a place for the locals. There's one small TV in the corner. The bespectacled waiter brought over a dish of cheese to tempt us into ordering it. Alright, we said, we'll fall for your marketing scheme and indulge in your fantastic cheese. I wasn't hungry so I was going to stick with that and a side of their signature Portuguese small bite-size salty treats, called lupini beans, or Tremoços. They were too salty for my friend, but I was happy to fill myself up on that. I felt pressured to order more because the waiter was a tad overbearing, so I decided to split an entree with my friend. We got the tuna, which came with a side salad, which consisted of just lettuce, onion, and tomato. The tuna was highly overcooled, even though they claimed it was very fresh. Then why overcook it?! Lastly, got a bit of a cold shoulder from the waiter when I asked for my portion to go. Overall, wish we'd gone elsewhere.

The steak was served with a fried egg french fried potatoes and rice. I also had the Munich Beer which I would highly recommend. I asked if it was made in Germany and the waiter said no it's made down the street. We also had the local cheese which was served with a pepper sauce which was very delicious with their local bread. The prices were more than reasonable and we both walked out of there for less than 30 Euros.
