The…read moreBarton Hills Food Mart, with Giovanni's pizza inside, is an excellent business that deserves your support. The pizza is excellent, but I don't even care that much about that either. What do I care about? The beer. Oh Lord, the beer. This specific Valero is one of the best places to buy gourmet beer in all of Austin, and certainly in south Austin. They carry many of my favorite breweries (Deschutes, Boulevard, Dogfish Head) and, best of all, they showcase some of Austin's most excellent new breweries (Jester King, Austin Beerworks). Also, they have a very decent wine selection. Best of all: the prices are downright reasonable. That NEVER happens at a convenience store. The prices are comparable to HEB, and the selection is far superior. Please, support this excellent little business. They deserve it.

On the outside it looks :/ but the inside is clean, maybe a little cramped, and stuffed full of delights... there's lots of stuff, standard candy and chips, as well as classier and more local snack options. Service is super friendly. The alcohol selection... Oh my, swill beer sure, but there's also 1000 options for craft beer, white IPAs, and everything you could ever want if you tire of drinking the same old thing. There's a walk-in cooler! Also, multiple flavors of Twisted Tea... Prices are a little higher than you'd easily find elsewhere nearby, prob because of location, but not significantly so. We went in tonight during the Great Water Boil of 2018 and the dude at the register gave us (and all customers) bottles of water for free. We were so touched by this added thoughtful service. Recommended!

Today, when I did that, I was passing a neighborhood and then saw it, A Texaco Bread Basket. It is very new (I have passed it a few times when it was being built) and it still has temporary building permits in the window, that kind of new....kind of sketchy but it is in pristine condition! The gas was a few cents higher than other places, but with the convenience of this place, forget about it. I was compelled to go inside. Immaculate, clean, fountain drinks, low prices, and then, to the left, is Cooper's Chicken and Hunt Pizza inside this store! The pizza looked good, but the chicken looked better!! I tried a tender strip of the Cooper's and wow.....wasn't expecting it to be that good. There were tons of people in there buying up this chicken and today was the catfish special for under 5 dollars with a side.... The chicken had actual batter on it and the man making it was actually using a meat thermometer to ensure the inside of the bird was done... This chicken tasted real and not made by robots! The coolest guy ever rang me up (you pay for everything in one place, not at the food side at the gas/snack side) he had a wonderful accent and told me he was from Jordan. This place is crazy cool. We have stopped here various times and each time we stop we are super impressed by their large selection of beer. All kinds of craft are well stocked and they have plenty of space for cold brews.
