Mee Korat with Beef

Despite falling under the shadows as the lesser known sibling to TingThai-Caravan, Saboteur boasts a diverse array of delicious Thai cuisine that deserves more recognition. The Mee Korat offered a generous portion of noodles, beef, bean sprouts, spices and crushed peanuts. Mixing these ingredients together yielded a mouth-watering, savory Thai dish. The service was exceptionally quick as well, from ordering to the bill.

In mood of pho, so ordered a Bun Bo Hue, and a Egg Coffee. The broth is surprisingly sweet instead of a savoury taste as I expected. But I would say the beef is well cooked and tasty. Also enjoyed sprinkling chopped peanuts and chillies in it, as they added different textures to the soup. Egg coffee didn't taste so different from coffee with condensed milk which I had in other Vietnamese restaurants. Only when drinking the last bit of coffee, I felt somewhat the texture of egg. All in all, it was good and personally I think I would visit this restaurant again.

Has good reviews but our experience was half good and half quite disappointing. Surprised to find that reservations were expected but that's my mistake for not checking. But they were able to seat us right away. Service was prefunctory. Menu with a nice selection of dish options. My DW loves Bun so that was her choice even before arrival. She chose the noodle with grilled meat option. I was looking for something with seafood and chose the stir fried noodles with mixed vegetables and seafood. My first clue we might have some disappointment was the speed that the food came out. It was literally not even five minutes before two entrees were served. Hmmmm. The Bun turned out to be just fine and she enjoyed it very much. Mine on the other hand had way undercooked vegetables, including very strong onions, noodles that were not completely hot as well as seafood in the same condition. All the seafood-tiny pink shrimp, mussels, and calamari was pretty clearly pre cooked and just given a quick spin around the pan. The mussels especially were not a pleasant temp for this dish. I ate it without complaint but also without enjoyment. Not sure how they have such high marks but it was not really the case for our meal.

If you can get past the slapdash name of this little sandwich and salad shop--it suggests that…read morethey're not trying very hard, right?--you're in for one of the best food bargains you'll ever encounter in the so-called First World: Let Me Eat serves up excellent and massive panini sandwiches for under five pounds sterling. The prices are pretty crazy. This is about as prime real estate as you can get in Edinburgh, I'd imagine: less than a block from the Our Dynamic Earth attraction, barely a block from the Scottish Parliament buiding, just a block or two from the Royal Mile (and Holyrood Palace), and so on. Chicken pesto panini was great--plenty of marinated chicken and mozzarella, fine basil pesto, terrific bread. Only quibble is that the whole production was somewhat dry. There were something like 15 panini choices, so just about everybody ought to find something to their liking. No seating in the little shop, but you wouldn't want to eat here anyway. It was infernally hot inside (felt like 90 degrees F, Christ), and I don't know how the staff makes it through an entire shift. But the gardens at the parliament building are only a couple of minutes' walk away, and Holyrood Park just beyond that. In good weather, that's where you want to go. It was perfect lunch break for a massive urban walk that included the Royal Mile, Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill, and on back to the other side of Dean Village where we were staying.

We've now been here a number of times and really like it. They do really nice dumplings, my favourite probably being the salmon and prawn one. The duck rolls are really good. And we've tried some of the stir fry noodle dishes. Most recently I went for the chicken rice porridge. I'd never had it before and really liked it. It's nice to have a good dim sum in Edinburgh. This place is off the beaten path but doesn't disappoint. The service could be a bit warmer, but that's easily forgettable once you've gotten your first plate.

We ordered take-out and wanted to ensure it was enough food for two people, so we ordered 4 of the dim-sum and one of the glutinous rice bowls. We had the #1 Prawn Dim sum, #10 Ribs and Black Beans from the steamed menu and then the #23 Fried Squid Cake and the #24 Vietnamese Spring Rolls from the fried menu. All were delicious, especially the prawn and the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The ribs were also good, but quite fatty and lots of small bones, so I was slightly turned off by eating those. The rice congee, #52 was good and hearty, but seemed to lack any salt or real flavour. I would say it would be excellent for a someone with a cold, but not an amazingly flavourful option. They did serve it with deep fried bread dough, which was so tasty. Overall, a delicious meal, but it wasn't nearly enough food for two people. It just wasn't super filling, but we imagine it is a great dine-in option if you have some friends to share it with and some time to linger. It is a bit pricier then most takeaway's, but it's a bit different then just getting sweet and sour chicken, and definitely worth the tasting. Also, they don't accept card under £25 pounds, so make sure to bring cash. Oddly enough, they serve a wine called Forge Mill, which I discovered at The Dogs, and have been hunting to find locally ever since. A great wine and I am excited they sell it. Definitely a place I will only dine-in from now on to get the experience, which I think makes them a great eatery.
