Close your eyes and let the old ladies crafting homemade tastes in the simple open-style kitchen in the back take you to a warm beach in sunlit, coral reef ridden Honduras, or to a mountainside rain forest with a hot café con leche in hand where you'll contemplate a trip into the ruins of an ancient Mayan or Lenca civilization. At Sabor Hondureño you'll savor very authentic food from Honduras, second largest country in Central America, right in the heart of Norwalk, CT. Honduras has one of the best Latin American cuisines -- as a native Honduran I may be biased I know -- but I've eaten food from all over the continent and can say this comfortably! Try Honduran staples like baleadas, tajadas (green plantain slices) with chicken or beef, pupusas try the "revueltas" with pork or just the bean & cheese ones, tacos Hondureños (different from Mexican Tacos, these are lightly fried and crispy) and wash it down with nutty (not the blander rice based kind) horchata! Worth the trip from anywhere in the state, as a place for breakfast, lunch or dinner within walking distance from Norwalk Aquarium and a nice pit stop close to both north and south ramps off of I-95.

    Shrimp Stir Fry

Disappointing all around from the timing of order to service and food quality/value. We found Sabor Hondureno on Restaurant.com, bought a certificate and ordered takeout the same day. The email confirmation didn't list the time the order would be ready and when we got there 40 min later, food was still not ready. Turns out they never got our order, but didn't bother to tell us that when we arrived. After waiting 10 min, they said they reset their app and just received the order. Not that big of a deal, but when we went to pay and presented our Restaurant.com gift certificate, the owner rudely informed the waitress and us that they don't take any certificates or discounts. I tried to show them the certificate, but he just dismissed us and said no, nothing he could do. The waitress was clearly embarrassed and apologized, so we paid the full amount and left. Food smelled great in the car on the way home, but when we sat down to eat, SO disappointing. I ordered the shrimp stir fry for $20 (see pic.). It was literally a handful of baby shrimp mixed with a bunch of French fries doused in 1/2 a bottle of full sodium soy sauce - with a scoop of white rice on the side and a sliver of tomato and some onion slices. It was inedible it was so salty, not to mention a total rip off for $20. The other meals were mediocre - quesadillas and chaufas. Fair warning if you use Restaurant.com, this place won't honor it and the service and food isn't worth the trip.
