a bowl of salsa and chips

Great little find the other day. This place is located in a small strip plaza behind Taste of Italy - another good place to eat. We arrived to an empty restaurant, but it was past lunch 'rush hour'. Nothing fancy here but the the food and friendly service was great. Right away, our waitress brought out chips and salsa. The salsa had a slight kick in heat - just the right amount. We took some time to look at the menu, as we were not familiar with some of the Honduran dishes. It all looked good! Nice menu with photos of everything. They do need to re-do their pricing as they were pretty much faded out and hard to see. But the prices were very reasonable. I had chicken flautas. It came with a simple salad and rice; and a nice tasty dipping sauce for the flautas. They were pretty crunchy, so they fell apart as I used my fork to cut into them. There were four flautas, which were filling. DH had a Honduran dish with ground beef, rice and beans and tortillas. It came with a green salsa I always taste his food, and it was excellent! We just love finding places that serve authentic food at reasonable prices.

I really liked this restaurant the first time a friend introduced me to it. Now, after eating here many times and trying a lot of the menu I feel like I should give an honest review. This is a tucked away treasure in Wilmington, authentic food prepared with love and care for a very reasonable price. Always friendly service that's more than willing to answer questions and help in any way possible for you to enjoy your meal there. I haven't had one item that I wouldn't order again. The Honduran food is delicious, baleadas and pupusas are a favorite. Really hungry and want to try quite a bit? Pick a Botana platter. I'm a raised on a farm southern boy and I'd put their fried chicken up against anyone's. Give them a try!

Great Latin food. It's not easy to see from the street, but well worth the effort to find. Great selection.

We thoroughly enjoy Honduran food, so it was a nice surprise to find that this was more than your traditional, run of the mill Mexican joint.

They have renovated the old space and opened it up into the adjacent store front. It's still a little tight and not long on ambiance but the food is amazing. I had the Texas fajitas which included shrimp steak and chicken. The tortillas appear to be made fresh. Portions are large. I had much more meat than guacamole salad, but it was well prepared and delivered sizzling. My wife had the skirt steak and was very happy with it. My daughter had a chicken dish which was smothered in queso which had just the right amount of heat. My son had tacos made with beef tongue- he is the adventurous eater- and ate every bite, paired with a tamarind soda. This appears to be family run - they were super friendly. Our waiter's English was not good, but we got through and he was very polite. They did not move us along and we needed to ask for the check when we were ready - once we asked we got checked out promptly. Pricing was very reasonable. All in all this is a great addition to the few restaurants in that area of town and as they get their feet under them I'm sure will only improve. We will be back as the food and friendly service is worth the trip.

It contained only a few beans, two tiny pieces of tomato and a small amount of cheese and sour cream. The tortilla was soaked with oil and beef grease and was also inedible. A very disappointing meal. I will not go back to La Esquinta in Wilmington, NC!

We came around 7:30 on a Saturday night do I fully expected to have to wait. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated and told they were very busy so it would take a while for the waitress to get to us. We waited about 10 minutes after being seated to have our drink order taken. Our beautiful waitress quickly returned with our drinks and took our food order. She advised it would be a while since they were busy with several large parties. After that, no one returned to our table for 45 minutes while other tables were seated and served chips and salsa as we were largely ignored. My son in law was just about to go ask for some chips and salsa when our food arrived. We then asked the server that delivered our food if we could get the chips too, which they quickly returned with. Every dish we ordered was delicious! The fried chicken was seasoned and crispy, the chicharrones with fried yucca was crunchy, savory deliciousness. The shrimps cocktail had perfectly cooked plump shrimp and a sweet tomato sauce that accompanied it nicely. The pastelitos were freshly prepared and fried to a crisp. I would definitely plan to spend a long time waiting if you're dining in, but the food is fantastic!
