a bowl of salsa and chips

Great little find the other day. This place is located in a small strip plaza behind Taste of Italy - another good place to eat. We arrived to an empty restaurant, but it was past lunch 'rush hour'. Nothing fancy here but the the food and friendly service was great. Right away, our waitress brought out chips and salsa. The salsa had a slight kick in heat - just the right amount. We took some time to look at the menu, as we were not familiar with some of the Honduran dishes. It all looked good! Nice menu with photos of everything. They do need to re-do their pricing as they were pretty much faded out and hard to see. But the prices were very reasonable. I had chicken flautas. It came with a simple salad and rice; and a nice tasty dipping sauce for the flautas. They were pretty crunchy, so they fell apart as I used my fork to cut into them. There were four flautas, which were filling. DH had a Honduran dish with ground beef, rice and beans and tortillas. It came with a green salsa I always taste his food, and it was excellent! We just love finding places that serve authentic food at reasonable prices.

I really liked this restaurant the first time a friend introduced me to it. Now, after eating here many times and trying a lot of the menu I feel like I should give an honest review. This is a tucked away treasure in Wilmington, authentic food prepared with love and care for a very reasonable price. Always friendly service that's more than willing to answer questions and help in any way possible for you to enjoy your meal there. I haven't had one item that I wouldn't order again. The Honduran food is delicious, baleadas and pupusas are a favorite. Really hungry and want to try quite a bit? Pick a Botana platter. I'm a raised on a farm southern boy and I'd put their fried chicken up against anyone's. Give them a try!

Great Latin food. It's not easy to see from the street, but well worth the effort to find. Great selection.

"Good Mexican with a twist near downtown Wilmington"…read more Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner at 6pm and were seated immediately despite it being a group of 5. The place was not very large but relatively full, so be wary of coming later unless you're OK waiting. The restaurant had a bit of a rustic look but clean & well maintained, and nice local art posted on the walls. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and a lot of the food was sourced locally. We started with a sweet potato- goat cheese "guacamole" appetizer. I split the Jefe's Arroz Con Pollo and the Carne Con Ancho with my son. My girlfriend got the vegan rellenos. Food came out in maybe 20 minutes. The ACP was very good but unusual. It came with a thigh and leg of chicken on top, and a big mix of flavors of food underneath-- coconut rice, black beans, pineapple salsa. Curiously no cheese. Very different from any ACP I've ever had. Overall, it was fine-- honestly, my son and I both felt it was too many flavors that overwhelmed each other. In contrast, the Carne Con Ancho was spectacular. The steak bits were cooked rare to perfection and absolutely melt in your mouth. The flavors of the arepa below it as well as the horseradish and other components blended beautifully and made for a wonderful dish. My girlfriend said the rellenos were nicely fried and the sweet potato puree was excellent-- a very hearty dish without feeling heavy. And we all also really liked the guacamole appetizer-- unusual yet delicious flavor (and no avocado). Price was fair-- this was definitely upscale, so not "cheap", but fair for what we got. Overall, I'd happily come back, and definitely would want that Carne Con Ancho again. I recommend.

A hidden gem in Wilmington ... a well kept secret of the locals …read more.. From the outside .. it looks like a road side hole in the wall but once youre in, its a whole new world ! Most people enter the bar entrance where the small patio area is .. but on the other side of the patio is the main entrance where you are created by the host stand .. You would never know how big this place is from the outside but once in... its like one of the hamster cage cages with never ending tunnels to different rooms/area... RSVP are definitely suggested since walkins are usually in Bar area or Patio area .. which isnt bad .. but its limited seating .. Staff here are cool but service can be a lil wait if they are busy . Menu is a Panamanian vibe with lots of good eats .. One of the salsas you must get is the Elote salsa its very nommm nommmm next would be the Goat Gauc which is equally amazing. The Ceviche is a must get ... yes get the Quattro which is 4oz of each one so you can sample all ! The scallops and pork belly of mash is pretty good but would be better over the coconut rice . The special of the day was a sheepshead filet over risotto which was pretty damn good ! The corvina was ok but was a little bit over done and ended up a lil drier than expected. Highly recommend asking for the homemade hot sauce ... its amazing and goes on everything! This is definitely a locals Hotspot and an interesting place to people watch... Will definitely comeback for sure .

The tortillas are really hard, difficult to eat and not very good though :( Ahi tuna was seared (not raw like I asked for) and the tortilla was burnt. Half wasn't edible... Coconut rice is sublime. Id go again but make different choices.

They have a variety of arepa fillings, including vegetarian as well as vegan cheese. You can choose whether you want it grilled or fried. Partner and I ordered both grilled ($8.75) and fried beef ($8.00) arepas and we got a huge portion of shredded beef. His beef was bulging out of his arepa. The beef was flavorful and moist, with a salty seasoning. The arepa corn flour dough thickness was good, not too thick and not too thin. We both couldn't finish our arepas-they were very filling. I'm glad I didn't order an addition of cheese because that would have been way too filling. They had 3 sauces you can add to your foods. Only got to try 2 of them: a spicy orange colored one and a cilantro one. They were both mayonnaise-based and made the arepa taste much better. Also tried a tequeno, a fried cheese stick of queso blanco enclosed in a pastry dough. The tequeno was good, not oily. White cheese does not melt much, so it's not very stringy. They advertised on Facebook (on the day we visited) that if you ask for the daily special you get a side of plantains for free. The plaintains came with cheese and were cooked well with some crispy bits. Next time I will try other arepa fillings!

I had to lean over to take each bite, because, if I had tried to pick it up, all of the food would have fallen out onto the table (because the container was so ridiculously small). The Patacones aka tostones ($11.15) was basically a small plantain sandwich with tons of shredded beef, slice of fresh mozzarella cheese, green sauce, sweet sauce, sandwiched in between two small crispy tostones. Wish I had some salsa to add to it to add extra flavor. The Asadita Steak ($12.25) was an arepa with carne asada, pico de gallo, green sauce. The arepa dough itself was crispy but a bit too oily. I liked their creamy mayo based spicy sauce they gave in separate containers. Not much vegetarian options other than sweet plantains and cheese. Food was overpriced, but still a solid food truck to try if you are willing to spend extra.
