We've been indulging in Paella all throughout the island during the afternoon instead so as not to eat that food-heavy meal for dinner. So after finding our own mojo, hubs decided to venture from where we're staying in the sleepy town of Ses Salines and come to Campos about 10 minutes away for late night Tapas.
At first glance, especially at night, the area of Campos looks like a ghost town. But look closer and you'll find some minefields- such as Sa Ferreira. I might describe Sa Ferreira as a 'blink and you'll miss it'. But it's also styled unlike any traditional Mallorcan restaurant we've been to. Sa F. is a clutter-free, minimalist sanctuary with stone, has an understated but elegant washed concrete wall and natural elements that look effortlessly chic.
We actually showed up without a res- and the owner(?) very acidly said, "give me 1/2 hour". After 6 minutes of waiting, we wanted drinks to pass the time but my girl Daniella- who turned out to be our server was a delight and sat us soon after.
The menu is short but powerful AND there are Pescatarian and Vegetarian options. If you're thinking of the traditional 'Gambas Al Ajillo', 'chorizo', etc- this isn't the place. What Sa F. has been aiming at is making tapas with an untypical twist. Very modernish. Very at the level- but still keeping traditional Mallorcan ingredients.
For instance, hubs loved his pork 'bao buns' tapa. I ate one of his Bleu cheese croquette- which was creamy and held together nicely. My salmon Tartar tapa was phenomenally silky and the mushroom+veggie gyozas were fantastic. Sa F.'s menu is like an old-meets-new approach but it has a strong take on food found in Mallorca: the dairy for the cheese, the pork, vegetables, etc. Both my tapas were fantastic and so were the cheesy croquettes. But the owner's attitude towards us was her only major fuckeration. read more
