This Berlin train station originally opened in the mid-1800s and has since then been renovated…read moremultiple times. Today it has long-distance and regional trains. My husband and I were on cruise-rented train that stopped at this train station. A tour guide walked the cruise passengers from our train platform through the station to the exterior. The tour guide warned us that the stairs could be slippery, but elevators and escalators were also available. In the station were several stores and over a dozen restaurants, but I was not a customer of them. The bathrooms cost money, so we did not use them.

After awhile knowing to check screens and updated paper timetables it was helpful. You may have a train somewhere, but the screen may have a different destination for your location. That can be confusing. This train station offers many amenities and options for dining before or after your arrival. Bathrooms you do have to pay for. That is always a treat with kids. Overall, a good train station option that just needs a little time if you are new to figure it out.

Even though they deal with a lot of tourists, they don't really seem to cater to any other than German tourists. The boat crew seems to think they're doing you a huge favor to let you aboard. I'd do a different line and there's many out there on the river. If you do go, use the Berlin Welcome pass and red book to get a discount on the fare. The river itself is interesting if you can find someone who has the ability to tell you about it.

This is a major debarkation point to points South in the intercity / international rail. Prague, Dresden, Leipzig amongst them. The station itself offers shopping and noshing aplenty. Open in 2006, its shiny, new and well designed. Nice station - your pedestrian Sbahn connection to the IKEA and Bauhaus stores to the South, and a critical node in the Berlin light rail.

I stayed at the Motel One for a week during a conference and a series of meetings. The hotel is…read morecute - the design scheme is nice and the staff was decent. I was able to check in early and I had a nice corner room facing the back (a parking lot and a green space owned by the hotel, but, glad it wasn't the street). They have a decent continental breakfast in the morning which is often packed with guests. The TV has two English speaking channels and some cartoons that were in English (though I wasn't watching them). A friend ended up joining me for the duration of my trip and I found myself "stealing" extra cups and towels from the housekeeping cart, as they only give you one of everything if you are booked for one person. My biggest complaint about German bedding is the weird "small" duvet that they use for the beds. I barely covered my feet and my friends! They do have a nice bar downstairs with reasonably priced cocktails. Keeping in the tradition of German service, the waitstaff leaves much to be desired personality wise. During the EuroCup they turned all the TV's to the game and guests from around the world watched the games. WIFI is spotty. I was on the second floor and it'd go in and out randomly which was a pain for work. I had better luck in the bar. However, the rest of the lobby I had no luck. (I have a Mac) You get free WIFI if you get breakfast in the morning or you have to pay 5 Euros for 24 hours. The location is okay but the neighborhood is boring at night. You have to walk a bit to find any decent bars or restaurants. I'd stay at Motel One again, probably in a different location.
