Ostbahnhof is pretty OK. I don't know what the old station looked like prior to the construction of this one in 2002, so I have nothing to compare this to. However, the fact that one of the track always seems to be closed down or worked on is kind of strange.
The train station may not be as huge as the new Hauptbahnhof, but it's still pretty nice. I like that it has all the necessary amenities of a central station, but it's not complicated to navigate.
One upside is that trains traveling to or from major cities tend to stop here, so it's more convenient for those of us living in the area to catch our trains or get off here, as opposed to dealing with it at HBF.
One downside, however, is that even though it's an important station, many of the passes that need to be purchased or any kind of customer service like refunds, etc. is nearly impossible here. After two friends never received their Euro passes they ordered, they came here on the day of travel to deal with it, but we were brushed aside and told to deal with it at HBF. Not a big deal, except for the massive lines of people that always seem to plague customer service there. So, that's kind of annoying. I wish they had better service or more options here.
Otherwise, Ostbahnhof is not bad. I also like that the shops here are open on Sundays, for the occasions once or twice a year when I need something I forgot to buy and find myself SOL. read more
