I love S&B plumbing. I have lived in Hoboken 23 years and they have handled about 5 or 6 jobs for me. Always very responsive and clear in their explanations of what I need and they have great availability. They are here right now and installing a new stacked washer and dryer. I had some issues with the shipping company who kept rescheduling. They were great and said just call us whenever it gets there and we will send someone out. I explained that I had 48 hours from day of delivery to have it installed and checked out if there were any problems and I needed to return it. They understood and said no problem, they would make sure they had someone there to install and inspect. They sent a plumber out a week ago to unhook my old gas w/d. I had them scheduled to come the next day to install the new one, but the shipping company canceled at the last minute. I worked with Joanne on the phone and she said just keep them in the loop. I informed Joanne that it was now scheduled to arrive today and she said no problem. Just call them when it is in my apartment and they will send someone over. Sure enough, it got dropped off and I called. They had Jose here in 30 minutes. The same guy who unhooked the old unit, so he was familiar with everything. Terrific team! read more

I have used a number of different plumbers in the over 30 years we have been in Hoboken. None have been more reliable or easier to deal with than S & B. They show up when they say they will, usually in a very timely fashion, and just get the job done. They have contacts for other people who can do things they can't who also answer and respond quickly. They are great at figuring out what is wrong -- not always obvious -- and coming up with a quick solution. We have had them come in the middle of winter when we were out of heat, and recently when water was pouring from the second to the first floor and no one could figure out why. Super awesome! Steve returned my call quickly, and he came over exactly when he said he would. He took at the look at the small leak/hissing sound we had under our kitchen sink and immediately knew what was wrong. He pulled the pipe out and fixed it, he said that if it happens again it would be worth replacing just that portion of the pipe which he could do with a day's notice. I called S&B after a very bad experience earlier in the day with Luongo Plumbing (who happened to come highly recommended to us). Here's the story: It's the middle of winter and we find ourselves with no heat and negative temperatures on the horizon. The previously mentioned guys came out spent about 5 mins looking at my furnace and said, "You likely have a frozen pipe, there's nothing we can do. It's eventually going to burst, here's how to shut it off when it does and then call us to come fix it." Then they left! Having survived hurricane Sandy and living on the ground floor, we are no strangers to a flooded apartment but I couldn't believe there was no recourse and that I simply had to wait around until the inevitable burst and flood! Was there no getting ahead of this?! I just had to wait till the damage was done?! We decided a second opnion was in order! Off to Yelp for a search of other local plumbers... We decided to give S&B a try based on the good reviews here and other sites. At around 5:15 pm I called and left a message. About 20 minutes later Steve called back and said he could come shortly. I was pleasantly surprised. I was thinking maybe I'd be lucky to get an appointment for the next day, let alone the same day! He also told me there would be no charge for the service call unless any work was done. I was happy to hear that as other companies I had researched charged just to come out in addition to any work. In less than 10 minutes he was at my door! Right away he was so different from the other guys. He walked from room to room actually looked at all my heaters and the furnace, did some tests and even though he came to the same conclusion that it was likely a frozen pipe, he didn't give up there! He kept a hose running and was trying some troubleshooting things. He also discussed what we could do to fix it before it burst, that they could try to thaw and repair any broken pipes rather then me waiting until they thaw and flood on their own. I was happy to hear we could try a preemptive strike and not just wait until there's a puddle of water on my floor! Luckily none of those scenarios happened because Steve was able to clear the line! He worked his magic and somehow was able to get it running! He said it was likely a partial freeze vs a solid freeze and was able to clear it out. In the time he was here, he not only fixed my heater, but also gave me peace of mind that if he hadn't been able to get it running that night that there was still something he could do. There would be no just waiting until I have a flood with S&B! Steve wanted to do everything to PREVENT me from having to go through all that and he did! He actually worked to resolve the issue rather than take the easy way out. I am SO happy with the prompt, throuough, and professional service I recieved. The cost was also very reasonable and less than most of the other places I researched. Though I would have paid more because the great service was worth every penny! I was in a desperate and stressful situation and S&B bailed me out! Next time they will be my first call! read more

I called back the following day no one returned my call I called 6 more times no one return my call finally today Thursday November 1st I called up I got a very nasty woman on the phone who really didn't care if she got the business or not I asked her if she was a relative of the owner and she said no and I said do you usually talk to customers in that tone of voice and she laughed and she said if you don't want to do business with us you could take your business elsewhere not only was his estimate the highest out of 3 other people but the speaking mannerism of this woman who answers his phone is horrible she seems like a very unhappy Person. If you're looking for a reliable plumber do not call them. Really amazing plumber! I hired them to install a stackable washer & dryer (gas) into a closet to replace my old one that died. This is a job that The Home Depot's installers decided they didn't want to do after looking at it. But Steve and his guy both did a great job. Steve came by to check it out first and make sure the new machines would fit. He even came over a second time to unhook my old washer & dryer for me the day before installing the new ones. These are the people to hire if you need a plumbing job done, and done right. For installation, they might be a little bit more than The Home Depot or whomever arrives from the big box stores, but they are totally worth every penny. I had a sewer pipe that need to be fixed. Called S&B last Thursday morning and the girl at the office said Steve is on a job and will call you by the afternoon. I never heard back. I called Friday morning and got their voicemail and left a message. No call back again. It is now Tuesday and I gave up and called another plumber. The service from S&B is inconsistant but always very expensive. Over the years they have replaced plumbing pieces because of leaks for two separate issues. One is still leaking the other fixed. They replaced pipes under a sink that 5 months later leaked. They serviced my heating system and did great work. If Steve does the work it is always high quality. The other people who work for him do not have his skills and are sometimes, at best, acceptable. read more

I called them to repair a constant leak in my bathroom tub & a drip from my bathroom sink faucet. The plumber that came to do the work said he was only able to saw off the shower faucet and replace. The handle now jiggles on the replacement part, but he did do the job. However, the sink went from dripping every 21 seconds, to 14, to now at least every second. I called them when I noticed how much the frequency had increased, and they sent the same guy to look at it again. He said he replaced the washers and was not sure what it was - probably would need to replace the entire fixture. Have you ever heard of a plumber that cannot stop a leaky faucet? Further, the $300 bill I received did not breakdown parts, labor, and the individual jobs, which I find upsetting. I'd like to know how much I paid for the issue to not be resolved. Now that I have a constant drip, I got replacement parts from the manufacturer. I have called and left three messages with no returned call. Guess I need to find someone else and throw more money at this. read more

For 6 months I called the office asking for Steve to provide a quote for a substantial job and not once did I receive a response back.

Called S&B out to get a second estimate on replacing a drain stop after Dependable Plumbing told me waste and overflow was irreparable and I needed to open an access whole (total estimate $1200). S&B came out and told me that it was possible that they might need to do the same thing but quoted me max of $700 and also said he'd try another avenue first. He was able to find a part and fix in 5 mins and total cost was under $200. There should be more honest people out there like these guys. Highly recommend. read more

I would highly recommend S&B Plumbing in Hoboken. We woke up to a flooded bathroom due to a broken water heater (thank you, Friday the 13th!). Steve was at my apartment by 11:30AM to provide an estimate. Two men came shortly after to install a brand new 50 gallon unit and were completely finished by 4:00PM. The two men who did the removal and installation were very nice, respectful, and clean! They even had to hike up and down 5 flights of stairs and not once complained. Sam did a walk through for a quote on Friday of last week (It's now wednesday). I have yet to receive any word from him/them, and get no information from their secretary either. Great company. I've used them twice and the service has always been prompt and excellent. Both times I've dealt with Steve, the owner's son. They replaced my water heater for a reasonable price and also fixed my kitchen sink which had a leak fro a corroded pipe. They were the only shop in town that sent someone over quickly., thus averting disaster in both cases. The others couldn't see me for a day or more. I had the same experience as a few other reviewers it seems. I called to make an appointment for an estimate, and the woman said that they would call me back to schedule. That was a week ago. Called again today to follow up and she said "well it's on his schedule to call you. If you can't wait then you should go somewhere else." It was not only extremely rude, but I think waiting a week to just SCHEDULE an estimate is completely unacceptable. Thank you- I will go somewhere else and hope others do too. read more
