Cool Tech (Randy) provided my wife and me with excellent customer service in the past, which prompted us to write a favorable review five years ago (Brwnblk R). However, about two years ago, we informed Randy that we were canceling our priority maintenance agreement, and he assured us that we would receive a refund. Despite countless follow-up phone calls and messages to both Randy and Jeremiah, our concerns have gone unanswered. The lack of communication, failure to issue the promised refund, and overall unethical practices have been extremely disappointing. What once was a positive relationship has unfortunately turned sour, prompting this negative review. I urge other consumers to seek alternative recommendations for heating and air services. On November 21, 2021, Putnam Mechanical, from Mooresville, NC, installed a Lennox HVAC system, at…read moremy business, Sweet Cakes Bakery. I have attached the copy of the contract. The contract drafted by Putnam contained an error in the model number of the air conditioner and a fraudulent representation that the unit included a "one-year parts and labor warranty and ten-year manufacturer's warranty". We relied on the ten-year manufacturer warranty when we decided to use Putnam to install a Lennox unit. We never received any paperwork for the unit, such as warranty, installation/instruction guide, or registration form. In fact, we could not register the unit with Lennox because the unit number in the contract is incorrect. It was not until the unit stopped working, in July of 2024, and Putnam refused to service the unit, that we hired another HVAC company. The new HVAC company took a photo of the actual unit model no. which is TSA036S4N44Y. We registered the unit with Lennox after learning the correct model number and clearly could see there was never any warranty on the unit. When we contacted Putnam regarding the broken system, we were instructed to call any other HVAC company to honor the warranty (Putnam manager and owner knows there is no warranty). We called 2 HVAC companies to get estimates for repair. Both well known reputable companies, stated in their estimate that Putnam did NOT install the proper 3/8 inch line for the refrigerant. Putnam used an undersized liquid refrigerant line which damaged the thermal valve. The pressure resulting from the undersized line directly cause the A/C system failure. We are a small business, struggling to survive. Putnam's use of the undersized refrigerant line (which should have been 3/8" per the Lennox installation guide), AND Putnam fraudulently leading us to rely on a nonexistent 10-year manufacturer warranty need to be rectified. If I were to be gracious with their mistake, you could say Putnam "may have" accidentally entered the incorrect model number in the contract, but the statement of the "one year parts and labor warranty and ten-year manufacturer's warranty" is clearly a fraudulent statement used to convince us to use their services over their competitors. Due to Putnam's fraud and incompetence our unit was damaged. If you want to spend thousands of dollars on an HVAC unit, only for it to last less than 3 years and have to spend even more money to fix negligent work or to get an entirely new system, Putnam is the way to go for sure. For the cherry on top, their owner, Michael Fortin, will speak to you directly on the phone and repeat the lies in their contract verbatim to really double down on their fraudulent practices. So if you'd like someone to lie to your face, choose Putnam! Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

Prior to 2022, I had good experiences with G&S Metal. Prompt and friendly service with reasonable…read moreprices. Unfortunately, the pandemic has affected our local HVAC companies. We had to replace our 112-year-old foundation. This was a huge, four-month-long project. To begin, we had to have our blowers moved out of the way for the duration of the work. Then, once the foundation was complete, we had to re-install them. When calling to remove the units in December 2021, I got an appointment for two days later. The two-man crew showed up early, removed the units, and were finished in less than two hours. I didn't suspect anything had changed with their service. In fact, the crew said I wasn't going to be billed until I reconnected the units. I was happy about that since the foundation work was extremely expensive! When removing the blowers, the R22 refrigerant must be collected and stored, since it's harmful to the environment. This refrigerant is worth more than $400 per pound in 2022 since it is no longer produced, and most units built prior to 2020 still need it for cooling. Fast forward four months. I called to schedule the reconnection. It took several weeks to get a call back to schedule a time for the work. After getting the first appointment, it was canceled two days later. After another week of calling back for a reschedule, I was put on for the following week. When four techs arrived, they said the ground was too soft to do the service then, they wanted to wait another two weeks. When the crew finally returned to re-install the units, I was happy I have Ring cameras all around the house, and inside too. One member was taking as many as five smoke breaks an hour (see attached images). The other was a slow mover and liked to take air-conditioned breaks in the van. Seven hours later the units were reinstalled, and we had cool air again! I was disappointed it took so long to get the reinstallation scheduled but was ok with the amount of time it took two people to reconnect, recharge, and get the units up and running again. Until I saw the bill. $2,414.00. There was only a single line item: "Remove outside units and reinstall". Even if you ignore the smoke breaks, phone calls, and air-conditioned breaks and assume they worked all 9 hours. That's $268.22 an hour for labor. Not to mention, that $2,400 would have been a significant down payment towards a new more efficient, and environmentally friendly system. When I called for an explanation, I never heard back. It's been almost a month of radio silence from them. I must wonder if the delay on reinstall was due to the value of the refrigerant that was reclaimed from my two systems. In the two systems, there were about 24 pounds of refrigerant. $9,600 is a great deal of money. When I started calling other HVAC companies to re-install my units, I would have had to buy that refrigerant to re-fill the systems. That's why I ultimately waited on G&S to complete the work.

Stout has been out several times and the unit is still now fixed. Most of their technicians are very polite and knowledgeable. Today a very rude technician told me the unit is working fine, and no unit can cool a home when it's 90 degrees out. Funny, he should tell that to the people in Phoenix! I told him the unit ran all night, to which he stated, " it's hot at night too". It was 75 degrees last night. When I called to complain to the owner he dismissed me and told me that "this isn't between our company and you, it's between you and the landlord". He could careless that his technician was rude to someone. I recorded the conversation and he didn't even want to hear it. He even tried to give me crazy story that with the humidity in the air the unit would run all night to get the humidity out of the walls. I'm 53 years old and have owned countless homes in several states and have never heard of such a thing. I believe he knows the landlord and is trying to help her not replace the unit. Repulsive!
