I decided to see Dr Ryu after not getting relief from western medicine for health ailments that have been popping up here and there. He checked my pulse, looked at my tongue, and was able to name off symptoms I was experiencing before I even told him my chief complaint. He was even able to pinpoint little aches here and there that I didn't bother mentioning. Working long hours, not getting adequate rest, not eating well enough for a prolonged period took a toll on my liver health which then created a domino effect on my other organs. I started to receive acupuncture at least once a week. Unlike western medicine, which yields quicker relief of symptoms but doesn't necessarily cure you, TCM requires patience to fix your bodily imbalances and target the root cause. Dr Ryu explained that many issues were created over a long period of time that you can't expect to be reversed overnight. A few months in, I realized I started having periods with minimal PMS symptoms (breast tenderness, cramping, moodiness). When I brought that up, he explained that normal periods weren't supposed to hurt. They were supposed to be free of PMS symptoms, clot-free, and not debilitating. Shocking because these are all "normal" in western medicine. It was through this that I was able to see the magic of TCM. It's been several months since I've started treatment and although I'm not at 100% yet, I'm now educating myself on how to better support my body through TCM. My favorite place to go to on a weekly basis! I cannot thank the staff and Dr. Ryu enough for carefully treating my year long chronic pain. My journey with Ryu Acupuncture began in 2019. I started sessions after referral from a colleague I work with that had had success with his treatments and became naturally pregnant after infertility. Dr. Ryu is extremely knowledgeable in his specialty and I do believe it was because of his treatments that in 2019, I successfully became pregnant with my first son after my embryo transfer procedure post IVF. I resumed treatments December 2020 in hopes for another successful pregnancy in conjunction with IVF. This course I also opted to utilize his Chinese herbs (formulated specific to his assessment based on your bodies needs.) I took the herbs for 2 months consecutively. Not only did his treatments normalize the intervals between my menstrual cycles but also successfully aided in my second pregnancy, this time naturally conceived. The office staff is friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. The office is clean and presentable. Current covid protocol require temperature checks, masks, and face shields. Dr.Ryu is such a woonderful acupuncturist! He listens to your pain and treats you with care! I really liked that they made sure I fill out the patient info form, and asked questions related to COVID. The facility had lots of sanitary equipments and I felt safe, since I've been very cautious with the virus. When I first made an appointment, I spoke with Jennifer and she was so helpful and answered all my questions at length. My neck was tense from sitting on the desk for so long from work and my elbow nerve was bothering me when I leaned on my desk. My husband threw out his back the day before my due date with our first baby. His sciatica flared up with the stress of work and my pregnant hormones. Luckily, through the referral of his coworkers he found Dr. Ryu who immediately said he could come in the same day--a Saturday afternoon! The last time my husband had this issue, it took 3 months of chiropractic treatments. With a baby on the way, we didn't have three months for his back to heal. I've had tinnitus for a solid year and I've done what one is supposed to do: see an ENT, get an MRI, take a lot of vitamins, and after minimal improvement, I thought I would be stuck with the ringing in my ears for life. Last year Dr Ryu treated me for cervical stenosis and other neck muscle pain. I am pain free - in part due to Dr Ryu. He made every visit meaningful by talking about what I could do to improve my symptoms, and each time I left his office I felt wonderfully euphoric! He is an amazing healer! Everything is expensive the papers they make you sign is all in their favor and god forbid if the doctor thinks you need Chinese herbal medicine. He ripped me off and sold me some medicine that supposedly came from China, it was some sort of liquorice and ginseng combo, made things worse. If he knows you smoke marijuana he looks at you like you're beneath him lol anyways about his work, well he sticks needles in you like everyone else then he leaves the room and comes back later to take them out other than that he is nothing special. My husband has had anxiety attacks for years now due to a traumatic incident in his past. His attacks occur at any point and time - on the freeway, movie theater etc. Its very scary to witness I can't imagine what he goes through. In any case he was resigned to taking some very strong meds to numb the feeling as soon as he feels he is going to experience an anxiety attack. So deciding to remove as much drugs from his system, I found Dr. Ryu (pronounced Dr. U ) and the rest shall we say is history. Dr Ryu has a very blunt sense of humor and is a straight shooter which both of us like. He made sure I understood what my husband was going through and how real the attack is for him. Witnessing an anxiety attack is a completely different experience from going through one. It was hard for me to understand why we needed to go to Urgent care or the ER when he had a bad one. He is only 30 so even though he thinks he is having a heart attack, realistically you know he is not - no heart disease , young and in shape etc. He has seen Dr. Ryu for three months now and hasn't had an anxiety attack since the accupuncture treatments started. Also Dr. Ryu has been treating him for snoring issues and that has calmed down as well to the point of where I don't have to move to the couch in the middle of the night! Acid reflux, Heartburn, Gerd whatever you want to call it. WHY I CHOSE RYU? Well I read all the reviews and that pretty much convinced me to choose Ryu. I also have another reason, its because I'm a fan of Street Fighter and I thought "Cool, I can tell all my friends I'm seeing Ryu and he can hadouken my heart burn away!" and he did! DA NEEDLES! Ryu uses the traditional Acupuncture Method. he uses some short straw to lightly tap the needle in. It's not completely painless, you'll sometimes feel a little prick here and there. If you fear needles from a doctor this isn't the same. I get paranoid around a syringe needle, but like I said not the same! Acupuncture needles just lightly get tapped into the skin and then manually push it in a bit more. I've been to another acupunture place after my first visit with Ryu... Shhh don't tell him. And I don't want to talk badly about the other method because I honestly have no clue about it(meaning the effectiveness of the other acupuncturist). My review is bias because I'm an American and we live in a pampered society where we confuse discomfort as pain. There's a difference! I was paranoid through the whole process. They used a different method of Acupuncture where they have this little metal rod and a needle slightly sticks out. They constantly poke you around 6 places over and over. I felt like Chucky was going hog wild on me. The whole time i was tense saying "ow," "ow," and "ow." I wasn't a fan of it. Like I said I'm not bad mouthing the method, I just don't think it was right for me. Ryu is gentle and converses with you. I actually just fall asleep on the table! when I wake up I feel like a baby and I want to start crying because I want to go back to sleep. I'll leave to pay and Beautiful Rennie(I have a mini crush on her) is there trying to talk to me and I'm still in dazed and in sleep mode. HOW I PAID I pay for my own insurance(kaiser.) I was told by Ryu that they might cover half of it, If I could convince them. Usually Western doctors think that this stuff is nothing but a placebo, a mental thing and worst they only want to use acupuncture for muscle pain. I called to see if my plan covered it and they said, "Yes, for pain and nausea." I thought PERFECT! Heartburn is painful and every morning I wake up vomiting some form of stomach acid(sorry it's gross,) not a lot like an oz or 2. My Dr was hesitant but I told him I didn't care about his opinion(in a nice way. being mean will get you nowhere in this world. read How to make friends and influence people.) I Pretty much said, "well you have no say over the treatment could I just see the pain specialist and have him deny me?" he agreed and sent me to the pain specialist. There I met the pain specialist nurse who told me acupuncture helped her out at one point for something and I thought, "This lady is my homegirl!" I saw the specialist and I told him about what I wanted. He was hesitant and said, "It's for pain and nausea." I told him "OMG what a coincidence! Heartburn is painful and I have nausea in the morning!" Once he realized I was right. he said "alright, lets do it." So I paid for half of the treatment cost and kaiser paid the other half. It helped for a while but after I got back to the way I was. You guys should buy this supplement called broccomax on Amazon. I used some weird pellets Ryu sold me they were Like 60-80 bucks. Those Ryu pills did not help. Like I said the treatment was relaxing and helped temporarily, I don't regret it (the pills I do regret) but it did not last long. read more
