You get what you pay for! They always go above and beyond to make sure everything fits perfectly, and somehow manage to make the whole experience enjoyable and stress-free. At the new Greenwich studio, I worked with Humberto, the lead fitter, and he was fantastic--friendly, professional, and put me completely at ease. The studio itself is gorgeous: stylish, chic, and perhaps one of the nicest Alts locations I've been to. Plus, there's plenty of parking right on Putnam Avenue, which makes it super convenient. I recently brought in more than 10 garments (dresses, sweaters, skirts and jeans). Mix of complex and simple alterations. It's incredible that they are able to handle everything with ease. I also needed some outfits rushed for an event and the team was able to accommodate my short window. Within just 3 days I got an email that everything was ready for pickup--and the tailoring was flawless! This mark didn't exists when I dropped off the dress. When the next day (48 hrs before wedding) it was still there, she stopped replying to my messages. The front of my strapless dress was lopsided becoz she had removed boning to create room around the back zipper, so much so that she offered putting pads to fill the giant gap between my chest and the front. She has no idea how to do French bustles and instead suggests inverted-cones by pulling the dress up and pinning on the outside. Unprofessional and irresponsible. Not to mention how she runs a sweat shop in her garage, working the seamstress on weekends and odd hours.

Stanley was trained as a tailor and has made clothes from fabric we have given him. He has tailored suits to perfection and is wonderful with women's clothes. I bought a formal dress at Saks which needed alterations. The seamstress at Saks who is used to working on very expensive clothes couldn't get the fit right after several tries. So I took it to Stanley who said that she hadn't understood the construction and was able to repair her mistakes so that i could go to my event in a perfectly fitting dress.

I told this to Stanley and let him know I was budget conscious. When I asked him the price, he evaded answering, and told me not to worry, that he would take care of me and give me a good price. I shouldn't have trusted him! He charged me $45 each to hem 2 unlined skirts, and $160 to tailor a jacket - total $250 - more than I paid for the two suits! In addition, he was unable to take in the suit jacket as promised. He initially pinned it beautifully and said it would be ready in 2-3 weeks. When I came in to pick it up he said that it was not done and instead needed to be fitted as he was unable to take it in as much as he had thought. So I had to wait another week, the jacket is still too big and I had to pay a fortune for it! I would never have worked with him had I known. I will not make the same mistake twice.
