"Finn" responded enthusiastically to the curriculum and more importantly to Ryan's style of delivery. We appreciated Ryan's ability to connect trained behaviors to everyday situations, and suggest small changes that delivered big results. The key for Finn was taking the tools from class and implementing/reinforcing them on walks, at the dog park, outdoor shopping malls, or just around the house. I had my first training with Ryan yesterday for my recently rescued 1y/o pitty. We had a 2 hour session and started out a bit rocky but by the end of the session my dog and I were night and day difference.... Kota wasn't pulling/yanking me while walking, I was in full control. He wasn't growling or staring down every guy that walked by, he was yawning and uninterested or checked in with me. I was able to have him on a 30' leash and walk away, and he stayed!!!! But what was the most beneficial amazing ​part of our training session was.....​RYAN. ​He helped me remember I deserve to have boundaries, he helped me stay centered & breathe/not be so tense, reminded me of my worth & my dog shouldn't be looking at other ladies too long lol... he was hard when he needed to be, and consistent so I am able to remember and enforce the training on my own. We met Ryan 8 years ago when we needed training for our Rottweiler Zena. Fast forward, we re-engaged with Ryan to help training our new Rottweiler puppy Bruno. Ryan is AMAZING. He knows the specific way each breed needs to be handled, and connects with them. A few years ago, Belle went through his puppy and advanced programs. Now she's a registered Therapy Dog (to visit hospital patients) and my Service Dog. I walk her off-leash in our neighborhood. She obeys both voice and hand signals, won't go in the street without permission (even when chasing a squirrel), and walks at heel in the street without command. I adopted a senior Great Dane whom which I didn't have much history about. I was in over my head as she was my first dog and she was incredibly underweight and was obviously neglected for some time. Within the first week I was getting complaints from neighbors due to her excessive barking (separation anxiety) and she was showing aggression to other dogs when I walked her. Being that she was 100lbs (still incredibly underweight for her breed) and I was inexperienced, I reached out to local rescues and dog lovers for help and ALL OF THEM suggested I call Ryan. He came to my home for a private session and he was the biggest blessing I could've wished for. For the first hour of the 2 hour session all he did was sit and observe (me and her). The second hour was dedicated to teaching me hands on training on how to help her. The education I got during that first home session was incredibly enlightening, shocking, and educational. Her separation anxiety was literally resolved during that first session and I saw her behavior change overnight when I implemented Ryan's suggestions. I booked a second session to address the dog aggression and his methods and training during that session (he forced/encouraged me to meet him at the SC beach trail much to my resistance) literally cured her and gave me the tools I needed to help rehabilitate her. Because of Ryan my sweet girl got to live another 3 years completely relaxed and anxiety free. I don't understand the negative reviews here, if they're due to him being late or not showing up then please chalk it up to an amazing dog trainer that maybe just isn't the best business person. If you care about your dog and their well being, then you'll hire Ryan. He's the best of the best. ***After reading other reviews I want to add that I asked Ryan if I needed a prong collar and he said 'no, you wouldn't know how to use it properly without hurting her'. He told me I simply needed to learn how to use a proper slip lead and that's what he showed me how to use and he even sent me a link on the proper leash to buy. Once she was healthy she was 130lbs and I was a 30 year old girl and first time dog owner and I NEVER had an issue with her after training with Ryan. read more

I'll preface my review by noting that there are a lot of positive reviews here and maybe my experience was an anomaly. I saw Ryan a few years ago; maybe things have changed. He was an hour late without notification of "hey, running late." I sat there forever and he calmly walked up as though not much had happened. He mentioned traffic. Was he driving in to south OC from Huntington Beach? I don't know. He walked my dog with me for the duration of the appointment without pointing out any issues or cues, nor providing any tips to resolve the issue - which was unrestrained bounding to play with other dogs. He talked about his training experience and past experience with Milan. When asked several times what I can do to prevent or stop the behavior, he didn't have anything to offer. The subject was changed or avoided numerous times in a very calm manner. Essentially, I paid money to go on a long walk with my dog. What I see with Ryan is that he's very good with mimicking dog movement and behavior to the client almost immediately, which instills a feeling that this guy knows what he is doing. Then you walk. He says hello to former clients and people he knows along the way. Results however? Actual advice? No. Others may report miraculous results. I however did not. read more

A few months ago I hired Ryan as a trainer for my 2 dogs. I have a French Bulldog and Boxer/mix. Unfortunately after my Boxer went through heat the two dogs couldn't even look at each other without getting into a bad fight. Ryan was recommended to me even though we were at the point where we thought we would have to get rid of one of the dogs because of the aggression. Ryan did an amazing job! I would like to say he trained the dogs but what would be more accurate is he trained myself and my wife. After the first session we could already see an improvement in the attitudes of the dogs. We obviously weren't being the alphas. What he showed us is that you can be in charge without being overly harsh. Both my wife and I are such animal lovers we would never let anyone be abusive to our dogs. Ryan was great and helped us to get to where we are at now. Fortunately now we can have the dogs in the same room together and they are actually friends again. I've never been so thankful for someone. We recently rescued a boxer from the shelter who came from a rough past. She had some understandable aggression towards our other dog and recently started to develop aggression toward people, or so we thought. Ryan taught us that it wasn't necessarily aggression, but fear and insecurity. In two hours my dogs who would go after each other, voluntarily went over to each other and laid down together. I have never had a wave of tears come over me so fast in my life. He taught us how to be the correct parents they need. He showed us that no matter what, to never give up on your animals. Ryan Furlet is amazing at understanding animal behavior and training. I've worked in the veterinary field for 9yrs now in South OC and have met dozens of dog trainers over the years but no one even comes close to being able to connect with a dog the way Ryan does. Ryan is the only dog trainer and behaviorist I will confidently refer our clients from the animal hospital to. If you're willing to seriously put in the time and effort practicing everything you learn in Ryan's weekly class or private session you too can enjoy all of your dogs like I do with my pack and probably have a much more peaceful environment with your pets. I have learned so much over the past few years training with Ryan about watching animal body language and being able to pick up on behavior before the dog reaches that anxious state of mind. Ryan has taught me to be more aware of the energy I am giving off and how a dog picks up on that. My Boxer at 4yrs old had really developed some insecurities leading to lunging and barking when on leash passing other dogs because she did not learn that the human guards all resources and that she doesn't need to try and protect me. The history- In February 2022 I rescued 3 yr old German Shepherd, 5th large dog I have owned but 1st rescue. I was told he needed socialization. The rescue group referred me to a trainer ... 6 months, 8 to 10 training sessions & $700 later the dog reacted to everything unless we were 20 to 50 ft away. We had a two-hour dog training session with Ryan Furlet this morning for our 7 month old Lab, Hope. We are amazed. My husband and I didn't think it was possible to see such a change in so little time but Ryan proved us wrong. He is so smart and a kind soul.
